AI used to aid Love Island casting process, ITV boss says
'We will use AI in any way we can to make what we do more efficient,' she told members of the media.
'And a great example of that for me from (ITV) Studios is they're using a tool where it's a smart editing assistance and it's about speed and quality.
'And they used it for Love Island and casting this year.
'So that productivity gain means that they can go and do other things, which is really, really good.'
Love Island has been a huge ratings hit for ITV since its launch in 2015, with each series receiving around 100,000 applications from members of the public.
A spokeswoman for ITV later explained that generative AI does not make any decisions during the Love Island casting process, but is used to edit hundreds of hours of footage into highlight reels for members of the team to then watch.
'It simply assists with the editing of audition tapes during the casting period,' she said.
'We get thousands and thousands of applications every year and we hold face to face auditions.
'When we get to the stage of narrowing it down to hundreds of prospective Islanders and we want to share audition highlights on a reel with the ITV commissioning team, to support the casting decision, we use the software (Quickture along with an Adobe editing programme) to edit the hundreds of hours of footage into highlight reels.
'It means that the casting team can then spend more time researching and finding more prospective Islanders.'
Announcing its latest results on Thursday, ITV said it had stepped up cost-cutting plans again following a slump in half-year profits.
The broadcaster said it was slashing costs by another £15 million, on top of £30 million previously announced, with spend on content being trimmed.
The group flagged using technology among efforts to drive the latest round of cost-cutting.

Senior MP Sir Alec Shelbrooke expressed his outrage about the alleged update to The Sun, warning that "Britain would soon be laughed at," for appearing overly sensitive. He declared: "This is another example of soft-touch Britain seeping into everything. We're just going to be laughed at as a country if things like this continue, because nobody's prepared for the real world." The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment. Previous alerts have formerly broadcast warnings over "programming that contains politically sensitive or distressing themes, content, or language has carried appropriate warnings since our launch". In more recent developments, Netflix found itself at the heart of controversy over a sequence that reportedly left "many millions of women hot under the collar". A moment from Jane Austen's beloved Pride and Prejudice, featuring Colin Firth as Mr Darcy emerging from lake waters back in 1995, has now been removed. It's understood the romantic drama's famous sequence was axed to prevent any "objectifying men" accusations being levelled at the streaming giant. According to The Sun, Netflix "did not want a repeat" of Poldark where Aidan Turner's shirtless scene sparked considerable controversy. A source revealed to the publication: "It is also credited for sparking subsequent moments of male objectification on screen - like Aidan Turner's famous topless scything scene in Poldark."

The likely strong pace at a course he clearly likes should play to his strengths. Have 2pts each-way at 20-1. A few bookies are paying out on six places. Mark Johnston used to dominate the handicaps at this meeting and his son Charlie has a decent chance in the Ridgeway Fillies' Handicap. His BLESSED STAR (4.55) returns to handicaps after finishing runner-up in four novice starts. Her second behind smart prospect Wujjood at Pontefract last month was a solid comeback run and that effort should help put the edge on her for today's race. Most firms are offering four places. There looks sure to be a strong pace in the final race on day one and that will suit LADY OF ANDROS (5.30). She was unlucky not to beat Easy Peeler in a decent fillies' handicap at York last month when the race set up for her hold up style of racing. Her third at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago was further proof that she is nicely handicapped and she should take advantage with the prospect of this race dropping perfectly for her.
