SINGAPORE, July 19 (Bernama) -- The 10th Joint Seminar and 41st Public Service Games between Malaysia and Singapore held from July 18 to 20 in Singapore continues to serve as a platform to reaffirm the relations between public services of both countries.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the programme has been resumed following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Traditionally, it has been hosted by Malaysia and Singapore in turns.

Among others, he said, delegates at this round of the programme exchanged views on how to better deliver public services for the benefit of all.
'Last held in 2018 in Malaysia and stopped due to COVID-19, we decided to reactivate the two programmes this year after six years of absence to rejuvenate the ties between public sector leaders from both countries,' he told Bernama during a dinner reception hosted by the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, Datuk Dr Azfar Mohamad Mustafar, at Rumah Malaysia on Friday.
Shamsul Azri said the seminar themed 'Leading Change: A Trusted and Effective Public Service for the 21st Century' saw the exchange of views on three main focus areas, namely economic reform and regulation, social reform, and public sector reform towards empowering a nimble and high-impact public service.
He said through the programme, Malaysia intends to learn from the Singapore public service, in particular in the areas of the republic's digitalisation and public service reform effort.
'Singapore's civil service has been ranked as number one in Oxford University's Blavatnik Index of Public Administration. So, we hope to learn from them how to be more efficient and effective,' Shamsul Azri said.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Department, the 41st Public Service Games saw delegates battle it out in bowling and table tennis and took place in full muhibbah and sporting spirit.

PM Anwar urges global leaders to unite in halting Gaza violence

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has issued a global call to conscience, urging world leaders to take immediate and united action to stop the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza. "Malaysia calls on all world leaders to act with urgency. Every government that believes in international law, every nation that claims to value human life, must speak with one voice. "In this regard, I urge all those with influence over Israel to find the courage to act decisively. I especially appeal to US President Donald Trump to use that influence to press for an immediate end to the killing, stop the indiscriminate bombings, and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need without obstruction,' he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 22). Anwar described the tragedy unfolding in Gaza as a test of shared humanity, stressing that the blatant disregard for human life and dignity must end, as it violates the most basic moral principles. "Entire families are being murdered. Children – even babies – have been killed. Others are wasting away from hunger. This is the hour for moral leadership. This is the time to uphold the values we claim to defend,' he added. Anwar said Malaysia stands ready to work with all nations to bring relief to Gaza and restore the basic principles of humanity. "Let us not be remembered as those who stood by. Let us be guided by our conscience, to answer suffering with compassion, and to pursue peace for the sake of our humanity,' he said. Earlier, during the Prime Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar said Malaysia's stance on the Gaza issue, as well as matters concerning Palestine and West Asian countries including Iran, would remain unchanged despite the possibility of facing pressure or objections from the US amid ongoing tariff negotiations, which are expected to continue until August. – Bernama

Kelantan intensifies efforts to tackle youth social issues with religious programmes

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan government has reinforced its initiatives to combat social problems among young people by reintroducing religious education programmes. The state Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAHEAIK) has resumed fardu ain and Quran classes for LGBT individuals, a programme that had been paused during the COVID-19 pandemic. State Islamic Development, Dakwah, Information and Public Relations Committee chairman Mohd Asri Mat Daud confirmed the revival of these classes, which are now held twice weekly. 'Since June 2024, the classes have resumed as usual and are held twice a week. Throughout the programme, we have observed progress among participants, some of whom have mastered Quran recitation and shown behavioural changes and repentance as a result of the initiative,' he said. The programme, initially launched in 2019, is a collaboration between JAHEAIK's Islamic Family Law Division, Persatuan Aspirasi Kelantan, and Persatuan Perantaraan Pesakit Kelantan (SAHABAT). It was temporarily halted in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions. In addition to the classes for LGBT individuals, the state government also runs the Al-Muttakin programme for those under surveillance for drug-related offences. Mohd Asri highlighted these efforts in response to a query from Harun Ismail (PAS-Tawang) during the Kelantan state legislative assembly session. - Bernama
