Start of UK's first CO 2 injection test for CCS

Yahoo12-02-2025

LONDON, Feb. 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Perenco is pleased to announce the start of the UK's first Carbon Dioxide (CO2) injection test for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). The test involves CO2 being injected into a depleted natural gas reservoir in the UK's Southern North Sea and aims to deliver critical research and development data, essential for the successful utilisation of highly depleted reservoirs for the permanent geological storage of CO2.
Following the carbon storage licence award by the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) to progress the Poseidon project over the Leman field in the UK Southern North Sea, Perenco UK and partners Carbon Catalyst Ltd and Harbour Energy (The Project Poseidon Joint Venture) are currently conducting the CO2 injection test from the ERDA rig, newly equipped with the injection test facilities. Petrodec's ERDA is the first rig in the UK to have achieved an approved safety case for CO2 injection support.
The start of the test follows months of preparatory work, which included the successful conclusion of the workover of the well, a former gas producer, and entailed a new completion specifically designed for the CO2 injection test.
The CO2 injection test has the potential to unlock the Poseidon Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project, which has an initial injection capacity of 1.5Mtpa, rising to an ultimate capacity of 40Mtpa, commencing in 2029. The injection test follows the UK Government's recent pledge of approximately £22 billion for CCS though the funding of two carbon capture sites.
Commenting on the start of the injection test, Jo White, General Manager Perenco UK, commented:
"As the first test of its kind in the UK, today's news is a key moment, not only for Perenco and the wider Project Poseidon Joint Venture, but also for the UK's decarbonisation ambitions. If successful, the project could be a significant store for CO2 in the future, playing a key role in decarbonising industrial emitters and helping the UK achieve its net zero objectives. I would like to extend our thanks for the support to date from the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) and congratulate our industry partners, including Petrodec, and the Perenco team in getting the project to this important stage."
Louis Hannecart, CCS Manager, Perenco, commented:
"We are very pleased with the progress of the project to date. This is a groundbreaking test and the results, which are expected in the coming weeks, will enable us to further develop our approach to delivering the Poseidon CCS project. The energy industry is uniquely placed to use its geological and engineering expertise for this important initiative as we move down the path to Net Zero."

Enrolment Boost Research Results Reveal Educational Approach Increases Centre Leads by 60% Amid Market Oversaturation

Mornington, Victoria--(Newsfile Corp. - June 4, 2025) - Enrolment Boost, Australia's childcare-specific marketing agency, today released findings showing that educational marketing strategies have increased direct leads by 60% for childcare centres struggling with decision paralysis in an oversaturated market. This approach comes as the sector faces unprecedented challenges, with approximately 14,835 childcare services nationwide, including around 9,369 long day care centres competing intensely, particularly in metropolitan suburbs. The Australian childcare sector has transformed rapidly, with a 15% increase in centre-based childcare services in the last five years alone, resulting in significant oversupply in some suburbs. Martin Niedenfuhr, founder and CEO of Enrolment Boost, explains, "When you've got a lot of decisions, you get what's called decision paralysis. Parents first have to conclude they actually need childcare, which is now harder due to current economic pressures. Then they're confronted with this oversaturation, making it very difficult to decide who to choose." Traditional marketing focusing on centre visibility is proving insufficient in this competitive environment. Centres using generic "we exist, book a tour now" messaging are experiencing diminishing returns, especially with the national average occupancy rates declining and reaching historic lows in early 2024. Enrolment Boost's data identifies two distinct market segments needing targeted approaches: a "ready to enrol" segment (approximately 3% of the market) and an "information gathering" segment (approximately 37%). "What we need to do is shift from solely focusing on immediate enrolments to really nurturing the information-gathering audience by educating them first," Niedenfuhr states. "When we adopted an educational strategy, we saw direct leads increase by approximately 60%." This educational approach emphasises informing parents about early learning benefits, childcare subsidies such as the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), Kindy Funding, Start Strong programs, and developmental advantages backed by research. With childcare fees rising due to economic pressures, clear and informative messaging has become crucial in alleviating parental cognitive dissonance and facilitating decision-making. The investigation found successful centres employ strategies such as: Building trust through educational rather than purely promotional content Addressing economic-related concerns directly and transparently Establishing reputation and demonstrating service quality before extensive marketing efforts Utilising authentic video content showing real educators in real environments Engaging proactively with local community businesses and organisations Prioritising Facebook and Instagram for information-rich content "Childcare is a high-entry-level service with significant emotional and financial barriers," explains Niedenfuhr. "Informing parents reduces cognitive dissonance, positioning your centre as a trusted authority rather than just another option." Digital marketing's role remains crucial, with authenticity surpassing production value. "Parents prefer seeing genuine, everyday moments rather than heavily branded content," Niedenfuhr highlights. "Authenticity is key to engagement." For centres overwhelmed by market saturation, Enrolment Boost recommends fundamentals such as enhancing social proof through reviews, capturing authentic educator interactions, and addressing reputation proactively before investing in specialised marketing. "The era of 'build it and they will come' is over," concludes Niedenfuhr. "Today, successful childcare marketing revolves around educating parents on the critical role childcare plays, long before they step into your centre." Centrelink cash boost over 400,000 Aussies have weeks left to confirm: 'Get what's yours'

You wouldn't leave money sitting on your front porch, would you? Yet, that's effectively what thousands of families are doing by not confirming their income with Centrelink. More than 170,000 Australian families who get Family Tax Benefit (FTB) and 240,000 families who get Child Care Subsidy (CCS) risk missing out on getting cash back through top-up or arrears payments. That's simply because they haven't confirmed their income for the 2023-24 financial year. Whether you receive FTB, or CCS, or both — the message is the same — confirm your income by June 30 and get what's yours. Services Australia has sent reminders to families to confirm their income, but unfortunately many are yet to act. RELATED $1,831 Centrelink payment change coming within weeks: 'You'll get more' Coles and Woolworths checkout move that there's no coming back from: 'Will only accelerate' Aussie couple making $1,200 a day from job anyone can do: 'Went off like an explosion' You might have to repay some or all of the FTB you received in 2023-24 You'll lose any additional top-up, arrears or supplement payments And if you were planning to lodge a lump sum claim, it will be too late after June 30. Your CCS payments will stop Your CCS will reduce to 0 per cent from 7 July 2025, meaning you'll have to pay full child care fees. To confirm your 2023-24 family income, you (and your partner if you have one) need to lodge your 2023-24 tax return with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Or, if you don't need to lodge a tax return, you can confirm your family income by advising Services Australia that you're not required to lodge, using your Centrelink online account through myGov or the Express Plus Centrelink app. If you're using the app, select More from your home screen, then select Advise tax non-lodgement. Not sure if you need to lodge a tax return? If there's a reason you can't confirm your income, you should call the Services Australia Families line to discuss your options. Each year Services Australia compares a family's income estimate with their actual income at the end of each financial year (this is called balancing). Most families tend to overestimate their income, so they get a handy top up or supplement payment at the end of the financial year. Kids Are Out, Costs Are Up, and Canadians Face Summer Spending Pressures Ahead of Rate Announcement

Credit Counselling Society urges Canadians to prepare for summer spending pressures amid a new tone in Ottawa and upcoming rate announcement. NEW WESTMINSTER, BC, June 2, 2025 /CNW/ - With new economic and political conversations taking shape in Ottawa, including Prime Minister Mark Carney, a former Governor of the Bank of Canada, stepping into the spotlight, many Canadians are watching the upcoming interest rate announcement on June 5 for signs of change. But despite shifting signals at the top, the reality for most households remains the same: life is expensive, and this summer won't be any different. "Summer comes with its own set of financial pressures. School is out, the kids need care or activities, and many people feel the pull to travel or make the most of their holiday time," explains Peta Wales, President and CEO of the Credit Counselling Society (CCS). "A rate cut might help those with a variable mortgage or home equity line of credit, but it will not make June, July, and August much cheaper." CCS sees firsthand how Canadians approach this seasonal strain. These findings come from their latest report on Canadian household finances, available here: "Copers" do their best to budget but feel increasingly stretched. Nearly three-quarters of Canadians say spending more on essentials like food, housing, and transportation is a top reason their financial situation has worsened. "Strugglers" rely on credit to make ends meet. In fact, 36 per cent of Canadians reported their debt increased in the past year, and 67 per cent of those with more debt are paying little more than the minimum required, if anything extra at all. "Avoiders" delay dealing with financial stress. One-in-four Canadians only took action on their debt after it reached a critical stage or did not take any action at all. Recognizing that Canadians manage financial stress in different ways, CCS offers guidance tailored to each group to help ease summer spending challenges: For copers who are trying hard to budget but still seem like they are coming up short, summer can make things worse as travel, home renovations, and special events add to the pressure. Regular budget reviews help stay on top of fluctuating costs like increased utility bills or seasonal spending, while also identifying opportunities for savings that can make summer more affordable. For strugglers who rely on credit cards or loans to cover everyday expenses, tracking all spending carefully can help identify small adjustments that add up—especially with kids at home and summer activities in full swing. Prioritizing essentials like food and housing, and exploring local community programs or free events, can help to not sacrifice fun or adding to credit stress. Seeking free credit counselling assistance to tackle your debt is equally important to prevent debt from spiraling—especially before the fall and winter spending seasons arrives. For avoiders who feel overwhelmed and delay dealing with debt, summer can bring added guilt or isolation, especially if they are unable to participate in seasonal activities with friends or family. Reaching out for support now can ease that emotional and financial load. CCS provides confidential, non-judgmental help to create manageable plans tailored to each situation. Early intervention can prevent debt from reaching a critical point and improve peace of mind, before summer stress turns into fall regret. "This might be the first rate announcement under a new political lens, but the financial pressure people feel day-to-day has not relented" states Isaiah Chan, Vice President of Programs and Services at CCS. "Regardless if rates go down or stay the same, the average person is still facing the same pressures at the grocery store, gas pump, and on their summer calendar." "The good news is that no one has to manage this on their own," adds Mason Cox, Director of Counselling at CCS. "Whether it's summer spending or year-round financial stress, we're here to help you build a plan that works, without judgment and without pressure."
