Barring one, all Pak citizens repatriated from UP: Govt
LUCKNOW All Pakistani nationals, barring one, have been deported from Uttar Pradesh as per the central government's order in wake of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. This Pakistani national, on medical visa, is under constant surveillance by the police and intelligence agencies, the state government reiterated on Monday.
UP has become the first state in the country to achieve almost 100% repatriation of Pakistani nationals, according to a statement. But no figures were shared by officials on the number of Pakistani nationals who were in UP on different visas and how many had actually been sent back.
Some Pakistani citizens left voluntarily, while others were deported as the deadline for exiting India for those holding SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) visas was April 26. 'The April 29 deadline is for those carrying medical visas,' said UP Police and home department officials.
After the Pahalgam attack, chief minister Yogi Adityanath had convened a high-level meeting with home department officials and issued strict instructions to send back Pakistani citizens from UP. He asked police teams to escort them to the border to ensure their safe return to Pakistan, the statement said.
All 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh were placed on high alert and swift action was taken. DGP Prashant Kumar confirmed that UP emerged as the first state in India to execute such swift and comprehensive action against Pakistan nationals, ensuring their return with full verification at the border.
Notably, the 12 categories under which Pakistani nationals were asked to leave India included visa on arrival, business, film, journalist, transit, conference, mountaineering, student, visitor, group tourist, pilgrim and group pilgrim. But those having long-term or official visas are under close observation by local law enforcement agencies.
A home department official said a specific guideline has been sought from union government authorities about Pakistan nationals having long-term visas as mostly women are in this category. 'Around 18 Pakistan nationals are still there in Bulandshahr on long-term visas,' confirmed Bulandshahr police officials. Similarly, five Pakistanis, including two Hindu siblings, are staying in Gorakhpur on long-term visas, said Gorakhpur SSP Gaurav Grover.
Officials said the process will be initiated as per the guideline as some of the women from Pakistan have got married in India and given birth to children. In such cases, proper guidelines are required regarding their deportation, the officials said.
Some of the UP districts where Pakistan nationals visited include Bareilly, Rampur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Moradabad, Meerut, Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Varanasi, stated officials. The state machinery documented these individuals amid deportation order from the central government.

It started in 2014, when Narendra Modi chose Kashi as his political area. It gained momentum in 2017, when Yogi became the CM. ‘Beyond the Badge' podcast: UP Police launches new series to share investigative breakthroughs
Real stories from the officers who cracked Uttar Pradesh's most chilling crimes are now coming straight from the source. The state police has rolled out a new crime series under its podcast 'Beyond the Badge', bringing listeners face-to-face with the investigations behind major cases. The latest series opens with the Sambhal insurance fraud worth over ₹100 crore, where a gang is accused of murdering people after taking out insurance policies in their names. In the matter, as many as 15 FIRs were registered at various police stations of different districts and at least 40 accused were arrested so far. Later, the central agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) also came in to probe the case, suspecting major money laundering was involved in the matter. According to a press release issued by the UP Police headquarters on Saturday, the initiative is aimed at giving the public an insight into how the police force works behind the scenes and raising awareness about various types of crimes and their modus operandi. The inaugural episode highlights a recently busted insurance fraud in Sambhal, where a criminal network involving insurance agents, bank staff, ASHA workers, and village secretaries was exposed. The gang operated across 12 states in the country. The perpetrators allegedly opened bank accounts under the names of the nominees of these unsuspecting policyholders. After the victims' deaths, the gang would claim the insurance payouts. Notably, the case gained further attention due to its sinister details. In certain instances, young boys were reportedly murdered after insurance policies were fraudulently obtained in their names. At least four cases of people being murdered to claim their high-value insurance claims had surfaced in the police investigation IPS officer Anukriti Sharma, currently posted as additional superintendent of police (ASP), South Sambhal, played a crucial role in the investigation. In the podcast, she shared how her team combined human and technical intelligence to unravel the scam. In the podcast, she explained that the gang manipulated identification documents, including Aadhaar cards, altering names, ages, and other details to show a death record matching the insured individual. In some cases, they even used another person's corpse to falsely claim the death of the insured. 'Public cooperation is vital in curbing such crimes. If anyone notices irregularities or suspects fraud, they should report it to the authorities immediately,' she said in the podcast. The UP Police plans to release more episodes featuring other high-profile cases in the coming weeks. The podcast is available on the official social media platforms of the Uttar Pradesh Police.
