State to have tourist police soon, says DGP
During a coordination meeting on Wednesday between the Telangana Tourism Department and the Police Department Dr Jitender said, 'A comprehensive Tourist Police System will be in place by World Tourism Day which will be celebrated on September 27.'
Tourism Department Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Law & Order Additional DGP Mahesh M Bhagwat, Tourism Department MD V Kranti, Film Development Corporation MD CH Priyanka, and senior police officers participated in the meeting.
The Tourist Police units will operate in major tourist destinations including Ananthagiri, Somasila, Ramappa, Yadagirigutta, Pochampally, Nagarjunasagar, Buddhavanam, Bhadrachalam, Amrabad, and other key locations. The DGP assured that the Police Department will extend full cooperation to the Tourism Department for the promotion and safety of tourism in Telangana.
Dr Jitender also suggested that the Tourism Department prepare standard operating procedures for issuing shooting permits and organizing special events. This, he said, will enable police to provide timely and effective security arrangements. Film producers and event organizers were advised to inform the authorities in advance to ensure adequate security measures.
Special CS Jayesh Ranjan highlighted that several initiatives will be undertaken to boost tourism in the state. He emphasized the need for Tourist Police to safeguard visitors to spiritual, medical, and recreational destinations, attracting both domestic and international tourists. The meeting was attended by Hyderabad Additional Commissioner of Police Vikram Singh Mann, Multi Zone-II IGP Tafseer Iqbal, Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police Gajarao Bhupal, Rachakonda DCP Indira, AIG Ramana Kumar, and other senior officials.

T.N. Tourism Development Corporation registers a five-fold increase in revenue
The revenue of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation has increased fivefold — from ₹49.11 crore in 2020-21 to ₹243.31 crore in 2023-24 — the State government said, while highlighting the achievements of the Tourism Department. From May 2021 to January 2025, the Corporation generated a massive revenue of ₹129.28 crore through its 26 hotels, and online booking services for all tours, it said. The release also highlighted various projects implemented since the DMK assumed office in 2021, including the establishment of Keeladi Museum, Jallikattu arena near Alanganallur in Madurai, and the construction of India's first fiberglass sea bridge at Kanniyakumari.

Telangana to soon have Tourist police across major attractions in State
Telangana will soon have a dedicated Tourist Police force to enhance the safety and security of visitors, Director General of Police Jitender announced on Wednesday. The move follows a coordination meeting between the Police department and the Telangana Tourism Department at the DGP's office, attended by senior officials including Tourism Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Additional DGP (Law and Order) Mahesh M Bhagwat, and senior representatives from the Tourism and Film Development Corporation. In the first phase, 80 police personnel will be assigned to the Tourism Department, with the system expected to be fully operational by World Tourism Day on September 27. The Tourist Police will be deployed at major attractions including Anantagiri, Somasila, Ramappa, Yadagirigutta, Pochampally, Nagarjunasagar, Buddhavanam, Bhadrachalam, and Amrabad among others. He also recommended that the Tourism Department develop standard operating procedures for issuing shooting permits and organising special events, enabling police to provide timely and effective security. Film producers and event organisers were urged to give prior notice to facilitate adequate arrangements. Mr. Ranjan said several initiatives were planned to boost tourism in Telangana, stressing the importance of Tourist Police in safeguarding visitors to spiritual, medical, and leisure destinations, and in attracting more domestic and international travellers. Senior police officers from Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda were also present at the meeting.

'Shikaras' in Bhopal Upper Lake soon: MP CM
Bhopal: In a bid to enhance tourism while respecting environmental safeguards, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced the introduction of Shikara boats in Bhopal's iconic Upper Lake. The announcement was made during the 'Tiranga Yatra' held to commemorate the 79th anniversary of Indian Independence at 'Boat Club', Upper Lake. Shikaras, traditionally associated with the serene waters of Kashmir's Dal Lake, are wooden boats used for sightseeing, transportation, fishing, and harvesting aquatic vegetation. This initiative will be launched soon. "In Jammu and Kashmir, lakes have long been cherished for their natural beauty and water-based experiences. Similarly, Bhopal's Upper Lake holds immense potential and is no less remarkable. With the introduction of Shikara boats, the lake is poised to offer a comparable experience, elevating its status as a premier destination," the chief minister said on Thursday. These traditional boats, he said, are already generating public interest and are being promoted as a promising tourism initiative by the state's Tourism Department. Going forward, just as people enjoy the lakes of Kashmir, they will soon be able to experience the same charm and serenity in Bhopal. "Our government is actively working to make this vision a reality, further enhancing the appeal and accessibility of our water bodies for residents and visitors alike," he said. A portion of it is designated as a Ramsar site, underscoring its ecological importance. However, the lake's tourism potential has long been constrained by environmental regulations. In 2023, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) prohibited the use of motorised boats and cruise vessels on the lake, citing the need to preserve its ecological integrity. The tribunal emphasised that water bodies are public assets and must be protected from commercial exploitation. In response to these restrictions, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation has pivoted to a more sustainable alternative. In June 2025, the Corporation announced that the idea of Shikara rides was taking shape, with ten boats already introduced and twenty more planned. These boats will not only offer scenic rides but also host floating shops, creating a vibrant, immersive experience for tourists. The initiative is being positioned as a fusion of Kashmiri charm and Bhopal's local heritage. Officials are optimistic that the initiative will succeed and expand, offering a peaceful alternative to the previously banned motorised cruises. The move has been welcomed by residents and environmentalists alike, who see it as a thoughtful balance between tourism development and ecological preservation. The Upper Lake, also known as Bada Talab or Badi Jheel, spans over 31 square kilometres and was constructed in the 11th century.
