Egypt signs vaccine production agreement with UAE's Al Qalaa, China's Red Flag

Egypt's Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UAE-based Al Qalaa Investments and China's Red Flag to expand its capacity in human and veterinary vaccine production and develop plasma-derived therapies, the Ministry of Health announced on Monday. Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the agreement supports Egypt's national strategy to attract foreign investment, localise biotechnology industries, and advance scientific research and innovation under the country's Vision 2030 sustainable development framework. The partnership aims to position Egypt as a regional hub for vaccine manufacturing and exports—particularly to African and Arab markets—while ensuring self-sufficiency in critical vaccines and plasma-based products. Sherif El-Fil, CEO of VACSERA, described the deal as a major step toward transferring advanced vaccine manufacturing technologies to Egypt. He said it would secure the domestic supply of safe, effective vaccines and open new export opportunities. El-Fil added that the collaboration will also strengthen VACSERA's capabilities in plasma processing and biopharmaceutical production, reinforcing its role as a key regional player in the vaccine industry. The MoU was signed by Sherif El-Fil for VACSERA, Li Yang, CEO of China's Red Flag, and Ashraf El-Badawy, CEO of UAE's Al Qalaa Investments.

Hydrogen Bus Tested in NEOM's High-Altitude Trojena Region

A Hyundai hydrogen bus was trialled at altitudes up to 2,080m in Trojena, as NEOM and Enowa push forward with zero-emission mobility infrastructure in line with Vision 2030. Hyundai Motor Group has completed a trial of its hydrogen fuel cell electric bus in Trojena, a high-altitude region of the NEOM development in northwest Saudi Arabia. The trial was conducted in partnership with Enowa, NEOM's energy and water subsidiary, as part of ongoing efforts to advance zero-emission mobility solutions within the framework of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. The test involved Hyundai's UNIVERSE hydrogen-powered bus navigating steep gradients and high-altitude terrain, reaching elevations of up to 2,080 metres and inclines as steep as 24 percent. It marked the first deployment of hydrogen transport in Trojena's mountainous landscape and served to assess the bus's performance in challenging geographical conditions. The trial route was designed to simulate a future passenger service linking NEOM's central business hub with Trojena. The initiative follows a memorandum of understanding signed between Hyundai and NEOM's Mobility sector in September 2024, aiming to co-develop sustainable transport solutions. Enowa recently installed NEOM's first hydrogen refuelling station to support the test run. The hydrogen bus was operational as a VIP transport service from October to December 2024. According to the project's documentation, the trial demonstrated the technical viability of hydrogen transport in elevated and complex environments and underscored the continued collaboration between Hyundai, Enowa, and NEOM.
