Pals of teen who fell to his death at Ibiza Rocks raise £4,000 for his family
A fundraiser to support the family of a Scottish teenager who died after plunging from the third floor at Ibiza Rocks Hotel has raised more than £4,000 in just five hours.
Gary Kelly, 19, died instantly in the fall at the four-star hotel on the party island during the early hours of Monday. Two ambulances were sent to the scene but paramedics say there was nothing they could do to save him.
Holidaymaker 26-year-old Evan Thomson, from Aberdeen, died at the hotel under similar circumstances just two weeks ago.
Gary's family has been left heartbroken by the events, which are being investigated by British police.
A fundraiser has since been set up in his name to support his loved ones.
A statement on the GoFundMe reads: "We are all feeling the loss of young Gary Kelly. And I know you can't put a price on life
"But hopefully we can help the family through this as a nicer young man and family you would struggle to find."
Tributes flooded in from Gary as the news broke of his untimely death earlier this week.
Writing online, his sister Kharis Kelly said: "Our hearts are shattered beyond words. Our handsome boy has gone to the other side, Absolutely no words. We are asking everyone to respect our privacy as a family while we try to navigate through this tragic news. You'll forever be our boy Gary, Sleep tight."
His girlfriend Louise Essery published a tribute to Gary, who she described as inspirational across every area of his life.
She said: "I never thought I would be sat here writing a goodbye. For those who knew Gary, oh you were so lucky. His passion and dedication was inspiring, whether in hockey, work, or with loved ones. I'm struggling to understand how you are no longer with me.
"It hasn't really hit me yet. Gary taught and showed me valuable lessons that I'll carry with me forever. I think it's important to remember the good times and to celebrate the love he brought into our lives."
Gary, who played ice hockey for both Dundee Stars and Aberdeen Lynx last season, was remembered as a 'hugely talented and charismatic individual'.
A statement from Dundee Stars said: 'We are truly devastated to learn that Gary Kelly has tragically passed away. We send our thoughts and condolences to Gary's family, partner, and all his friends at this extremely difficult time.
'Everyone at the club including players, staff, management, and ownership are heartbroken to hear this tragic news. Gary was a hugely talented and charismatic individual who had a great future ahead of him.
'His loss will impact many in the ice hockey community and beyond. He will be sadly missed. We respect and support the family's request for privacy at this extremely difficult time.'
A spokesman for the Civil Guard said: 'The fall could be accidental based on the early information obtained from cameras but as part of the investigation possible witnesses will need to be located and interviewed. The results of the post-mortem will also be important to the investigation.'
Ibiza Rocks has since suspended all events in the wake of the two tragedies.
A statement from the hotel on Monday afternoon read: "We are deeply shocked and devastated by the recent incidents that have tragically occurred.
"Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist the authorities with their investigations.
"The safety and wellbeing of our guests has, and always will remain, our highest priority. Given the seriousness of the situation and out of respect for those involved, we believe it is right to pause our advertised events programme at this time.
"All customers will be informed directly via email."

Maro Itoje reveals stance on future Lions tour destinations
Maro Itoje has suggested that he would prefer that the British and Irish Lions keep touring Australia, New Zealand and South Africa rather than stray from tradition and visit elsewhere. The Lions have been to each of the three nations in turn every four years since 1989 and their history visiting each extends back into the 19th century. The touring side's hierarchy have, however, suggested that they are open to considering other options for tours in the future, with the one-sided nature of some of the tour games in Australia this year intensifying speculation that visits to other countries could precede a Test series in the future. France are reportedly in discussions over potentially hosting a game ahead of the women's tour in 2027 and men's tour to New Zealand in 2029, while prominent former players, including ex-Lions scrum half Matt Dawson, have suggested that a full tour of the country should happen. Itoje, though, errs on the side of a traditionalist, and admits that preserving the long history of the Lions is something that appeals to him. 'I thought about this at the beginning of the tour,' Itoje admitted. 'With the three nations [the Lions] tour, there's a strong sense of history and tradition. 'Perhaps the Lions is the last of the traditional organisations in the modern era. Part of me is keen for it to continue to rotate among the three countries it does. 'But, that being said, you have to stay relatively open minded. As it stands, the three nations it tours is pretty good. It wouldn't feel the same if we took a short haul flight. It needs a long haul flight!' This is Itoje's third trip with the touring side with the captain set to make his ninth Test appearance, and eighth start, in the third encounter with the Wallabies in Sydney this weekend. The lock has led the side to his first series victory after a draw in New Zealand in 2017 was followed by a 2-1 defeat in South Africa four years ago. 'It's been without a shadow of a doubt one of the highlights of my career,' Itoje said. 'When I am old and grey these occasions and these tours are going to be one of the experiences, I look back with extreme fondness [on]. 'This is something the players want and the players will continue to want for decades and for as long as rugby is being played. And it's something that I think world rugby wants. I know for each of the southern-hemisphere teams that the Lions tour – Australia, New Zealand and South Africa – it provides a huge sense of excitement for all of those three nations. And it adds an extra bit of spice and intrigue to the Six Nations when it's Lions year. So I am struggling to see the negatives. It is a great occasion, it is a great event and long may it continue.'

McInnes in Hearts squad assessment and hints at movement
The club are hopeful of finalising the signing of forward Pierre Landry Kabore from Estonian side FK Trans Narva sooner rather than later, alongside Icelandic midfielder Tomas Bent Magnusson from Valur. It is the first summer window of the club's partnership with Jamestown Analytics t and most of the additions have impressed in friendlies and Premier Sports Cup games. Braga, McEntee, Findlay and Kyzridis in particular have stood out. 🗣️ 'We feel as if we're in good shape… No manager will be fully satisfied with their work' [[Derek McInnes]] is relishing his first Premiership game in charge of Hearts when they host Aberdeen on Monday night, 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗸𝘆 📺 — Sky Sports Scotland (@ScotlandSky) July 29, 2025 The new head coach is pleased with the recruitment that has gone on at the club but admits he is not yet fully satisfied, hinting there will be further business before the window closes on September 1. That will likely include more outs than ins as there is already a bloated squad. McInnes told Sky Sports: "Yeah, got to be pleased. I think at this stage of the season no manager, I don't think, will be fully satisfied with their work. There's still a good few weeks of the window left and you're still trying. "Once the window closes, I think the squad will still probably look a wee bit different. Read more: "We had a big emphasis on trying to get wide players in. We've obviously signed a couple, one or two were a bit slow in getting here in terms of trying to get various checks and all the stuff you need to do. So from that point, there's been a bit of frustration. "We've got a couple of injuries going into the (Aberdeen) game. Hopefully, we can get positive news on those boys. But in the sense of the squad, I think we're quite strong in most areas. "Certainly if we took ourselves six or seven weeks to when we first started pre-season, I've got to be pleased with the progress that's been made."
