Factories and boilers need monitoring: MLAs to min
Porvorim: Lawmakers on Friday said that the directorate of factories and boilers failed to ensure monitoring of the functioning of factories in the state. Speaking in the Goa assembly, MLAs called for greater transparency and accountability regarding the 168 industrial accidents and fires which have claimed 23 lives since Jan 2020. Goa has 714 factories and 183 boilers. 'Each factory must be inspected at least three times a year. We are nowhere close to that. This laxity reflects in the accident statistics,' GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai said. The directorate claimed to have no record of the compensation paid to victims of the 168 accidents at factories. According to the data of the directorate, action was taken in only 20 industrial accidents, with eight companies fined between Rs 30,000 and Rs 2 lakh. RG MLA Viresh Borkar brought up the issue of the fire that occurred at the Berger paint factory at Pilerne. He said that no details were released about the accident, nor was accountability fixed. Minister for factories and boilers Nilkanth Halarnkar did not respond to these queries raised during the discussion on the demand for grants for the department. Halarnkar did speak about the work for the Goa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Curti-Ponda, the new veterinary hospital at Mulgao, and a veterinary dispensary at Chicalim. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Japanese hair growth method Hair's Rich Learn More Undo 'A new veterinary hospital is in the process of construction at Mulgao, Bicholim, at the estimated cost of Rs 11 crore,' the minister said. Honda outpaces Hero in July two-wheeler sales, takes No.1 spot in market
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) outperformed Hero MotoCorp in July 2025 domestic dispatches by approximately 54,000 units. The Japanese automaker reported total sales of 515,378 units last month, comprising 466,331 units in domestic sales and 49,047 units in exports. In comparison, Hero MotoCorp dispatched 449,755 units during the same month. This includes 412,397 units in the domestic market and 37,358 units in exports. The sharp turnaround comes despite Hero maintaining a decent lead over Honda in June 2025 when its dispatches stood at 525,136 units in the domestic market against HMSI's 388,812 units. The lead by HMSI comes as it ramps up its footprint in the high-volume commuter motorcycle segment to challenge Hero, the dominant market leader. HMSI launched two new motorcycles -- the Shine 100 Deluxe and the CB125 Hornet -- last month. On Friday, the company revealed the prices of these two models and said that their deliveries will commence from mid-August 2025.

Russian, US space chiefs meet to discuss continued cooperation
Moscow, Aug 1 (AP) Russia's space chief has visited the United States to discuss plans for continued cooperation between Moscow and Washington on the International Space Station and lunar research with NASA's acting chief, the first such face-to-face meeting in more than seven years. Dmitry Bakanov, the director of the state space corporation Roscosmos, met Thursday with NASA's new acting administrator, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, on a visit to attend the planned launch of a US-Japanese-Russian crew to the space station. The launch was delayed by weather until Friday. Roscosmos said Bakanov and Duffy discussed 'further work on the International Space Station, cooperation on lunar programmes, joint exploration of deep space and continued cooperation on other space projects." Once bitter rivals in the space race during the Cold War, Roscosmos and NASA cooperated on the space station and other projects. That relationship was beset with tensions after Moscow sent troops into Ukraine in 2022, but Washington and Moscow have continued to work together, with US and Russian crews continuing to fly to the orbiting outpost on each country's spacecraft. Plans for broader cooperation, including possible Russian involvement in NASA's Artemis programme of lunar research, have fallen apart. As Russia has become increasingly reliant on China for its energy exports and imports of key technology amid Western sanctions, Roscosmos has started cooperation with China on its prospective lunar mission. 'Our experts will now start working on those issues in details," Bakanov said, praising Duffy for giving a green light for those contacts 'despite geopolitical tensions." The Russian space chief added that he and Duffy will report the results of the meeting to Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump to secure their blessing for potential space cooperation. 'In view of the difficult geopolitical situation, we will need to receive the necessary clearance from the leaders of our countries," Bakanov said. He added he invited Duffy to visit Moscow and the Russia-leased Baikonur launch facility in Kazakhstan for the launch of another Russia-US crew to the space station scheduled for November. 'I will put my efforts into keeping the channel of cooperation between Russia and the US open, and I expect NASA to do the same," Bakanov said.
