Kota Bharu to Pasir Mas ECRL extension under study

The Sun6 days ago
KOTA BHARU: The proposal to extend the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) from Kota Bharu to Rantau Panjang in Pasir Mas is still under review by Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and the Ministry of Transport.
Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan stated that the proposal aligns with plans to revive the railway link between Malaysia and Thailand.
'The Kelantan government is proposing that the ECRL line be extended to Rantau Panjang instead of the original alignment in Tumpat,' he said during the State Legislative Assembly sitting.
The move aims to strengthen connectivity with Thailand, where discussions are ongoing to restore the Pasir Mas-Sungai Golok rail link under KTMB.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed that the ministry is evaluating the proposal to enhance cross-border rail connectivity.
Meanwhile, the Kelantan government has outlined strategic plans to maximize economic benefits from the ECRL project, including Cargo Oriented Development (COD) at Pasir Puteh Station and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) at Tunjong Station.
'The COD initiative will attract investments and stimulate downstream economic activities, while TOD will revitalize Tunjong as a new township,' Mohamed Fadzli added.
The ECRL is set for full completion by end-2026, with Kota Bharu-Gombak operations starting in January 2027 and the Gombak-Port Klang line a year later. - Bernama

KTMB: Viral Post Leaves Malaysians Wondering About Closure Of Two KL Stations

Subscribe to our FREE Several social media users have posted a photo of a notice allegedly by rail operator Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) this morning. The notice informs that operations at the Bank Negara and Kuala Lumpur stations will be temporarily halted tomorrow (26 July) from 9am to 5pm. 'Commuter trains will not stop at these stations during the closure period,' it said. TRP reached out to KTMB about the notice, but they said the information cannot be confirmed yet. Meanwhile, transport minister Anthony Loke shared on Facebook that he has directed all public transport including KTMB and Prasarana stations to operate as usual on 26 July. 'The Madani government protects the right to assemble freely, including those who are not aligned with the government. We cannot return to a time when democracy was suppressed to the point where parliament was shut down,' he said, referring to a mega rally happening tomorrow at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. 'More importantly, our public transport must continue to operate so the majority of the people can proceed with their weekend plans without being disrupted by the opposition's rally,' he added. At time of press, KTMB has not released an official statement or confirmation on the matter. Turun Anwar Rally A massive rally is taking place at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday (26 July) to pressure Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim into resigning from his post as Prime Minister. About 10,000 to 15,000 people are expected to turn up at the 'Turun Anwar' gathering, and more than 2,000 police personnel will be deployed to maintain security and order. The gathering is being organized by Dewan Pemuda PAS, the youth wing of PAS, which is part of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. READ MORE: Share your thoughts with us via TRP's . Traffic ahead: KL police map out 16 road diversions for #TurunAnwar rally

KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 — Several key roads in the city centre could experience traffic diversions for tomorrow's #TurunAnwar rally, police said today. Among the roads set to be affected are Jalan Maharajalela, Jalan Kinabalu, Bulatan Sultan Mohamad, Bulatan Dato' Onn, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Tun Perak, and Jalan Lebuh Ampang. Other impacted routes include Jalan Sultan Salahuddin, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Raja, Jalan Hishamudin, Jalan Lebuh Pasar Besar, and Jalan Hang Kasturi. Acting KL Police Chief DCP Datuk Mohd Usuf Jan Mohd said the rally is likely to cause congestion in the city centre. 'Vehicle diversions will be activated if conditions require it to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety of all road users,' he said in a statement today. The rally is expected to begin from five main gathering points — Masjid Negara, Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad, Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru, and Kompleks Sogo. Participants will then proceed to Dataran Merdeka, where the main assembly is set to take place. The police chief urged the public to plan their travel ahead to avoid traffic disruptions. He also advised commuters to use public transport and to comply with instructions from traffic police stationed at affected areas. Earlier today, Transport Minister Anthony Loke issued a similar call for would-be attendees to choose public transport in order to minimise disruption to the flow of traffic in the city.
