Kelantan ranked second safest state in Malaysia

It recorded the second-lowest crime index with a score of 96 per 100,000 population, making it the second safest state in the country after Sabah, which scored 95 per 100,000 population 22 Apr 2025 08:11pm KOTA BHARU - Kelantan, with its low crime index, has been ranked as the second safest state in Malaysia after Sabah, said Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan. He said the ranking is based on the latest report on crime index rates by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). "The report was issued based on the crime index rate, which includes murder, assault, property theft, rape and robbery. "Kelantan recorded the second-lowest crime index with a score of 96 per 100,000 population, making it the second safest state in the country after Sabah, which scored 95 per 100,000 population,' he said. He said this in response to a supplementary question from Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim (BN-Galas) regarding the state government's achievements in embodying the "Membangun Bersama Islam' (Developing Through Islam) philosophy during the State Legislative Assembly sitting at the Kota Darulnaim Complex today. Elaborating, Fadzli said the state government hoped that the issue of drug abuse in Kelantan would not be politicised, as it is also a problem faced by other states. "For example, during the tenure of the late Tan Sri Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat as Kelantan Menteri Besar, the state recorded the highest consumption of pil kuda (amphetamine pills), which came as a shock to many. "So we called in the head of the Kelantan Narcotics Division to discuss the matter. He explained that while Kelantan recorded high pil kuda usage, other states had higher rates of ketum juice consumption. Every state has its record,' he said. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had previously stated that Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis and Kedah recorded the highest drug abuse rates. Mohamed Fadzli said that, in response, state government took several initiatives to curb social ills and rising crime rates, including introducing new enactments, closing down gambling outlets and regulating alcohol sales. "We have also actively campaigned for prayer observance, modest dressing, established entertainment control enactments and made adjustments to traditional Kelantanese cultural elements that contradict Islamic teachings such as Mak Yong, wayang kulit (shadow puppetry) and others,' he said. - BERNAMA

Kelantan Deputy MB warns public after WhatsApp hack

PETALING JAYA: Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan has asked the public to be aware of social media scams after his WhatsApp account was recently hacked by an unknown party. In a Facebook post yesterday, he urged the public to ignore any messages they receive from his WhatsApp number that has his photo in the profile because they were not sent by him. He shared a screenshot of a WhatApp conversation in which the holder of his account requests a loan of roughly RM5,000, with the repayment by 10am the following day. Based on the screenshot, the name that appears in the person's shared bank details is different and does not correspond to Mohamed Fadzli's bank account. Datuk Wan Roslan Wan Hamat, a fellow Perikatan Nasional assemblyman, mentioned in the comment section that he received a similar message from Mohamed Fadzli's WhatsApp account. KOTA BARU: Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan has asked the public to be vigilant after his WhatsApp account was hacked by unknown individuals. He is now asking people to ignore any messages or requests that come from his account number. In his Facebook posting tonight, he confirmed that his account had been compromised and that any messages or requests sent using his number were not from him. "I wish to inform the public that my WhatsApp account has been hacked by irresponsible individuals. "I also urge everyone to remain vigilant and not to respond to any suspicious messages that appear to come from my number or use my photo," he said. Fadzli advised the public to report any incident to the relevant authorities and avoid sharing personal information with unknown parties. The incident was not the first to occur for the state's leaders. On Feb 19, Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud lodged a report following the hacking of his WhatsApp account. Nassaruddin also advised anyone who had conducted transactions through his hacked account to report the incident to the police as soon as possible.

Three of seven timber factories raided on Monday were unlicensed

KOTA BARU: Three of the seven timber factories raided by the General Operations Force on Monday were found to be operating without valid permits. Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said the state Forestry Department informed him of the matter yesterday. "I was informed that the GOF had raided seven timber processing factories and one timber storage site in Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Jeli and Tanah Merah on Monday. "Following the operation, the department conducted thorough inspections and found that three of the factories did not possess valid permits," he told the New Straits Times. He said the three factories were still in the process of applying for permits but are believed to have been conducting illegal rubberwood sawing activities. Fadzli said police reports had been lodged against all the factories and the timber storage site involved. "Machinery seized from the cases have been moved to the evidence storage facility in Manal, Tanah Merah," he said. He added that various measures had been taken by the Kelantan Forestry Department to prevent a recurrence of such offences. "This includes the confiscation of timber logs from premises operating without valid permits," he added. He said the Forestry Department would closely monitor licensed factory areas identified as high-risk for receiving illegally-felled timber. In Op Khazanah conducted on Monday, the GOF raided seven illegal timber factories and seized various items valued at about RM31.2 million. GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid had said the simultaneous raids began at 1.30pm in four districts. The operation involved 73 officers and personnel from the Southeast Brigade's intelligence unit, the 7th, 8th and 9th Battalions, the Strike Force, and the Kelantan Forestry Department. A total of 39 individuals, including undocumented Myanmar workers, were detained. Authorities also confiscated 5,537 pieces of forest timber, 25 units of heavy machinery, 93 wood-cutting tools and several processing machines. Nik Ros Azhan had said forest timber accounted for the largest portion of the seizures, estimated at RM14.98 million, followed by wood-processing equipment worth RM11.75 million.

DOSM: Kelantan Is Second Safest State, Just After Sabah

Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said the ranking is based on 'The report was issued based on the crime index rate, which includes murder, assault, property theft, and robbery. 'Kelantan recorded the second-lowest crime index with a score of 96 per 100,000 population, making it the second safest state in the country after Sabah, which scored 95 per 10,000 population,' he said. The numbers are based on the Crime Statistics report published on 16 October, 2024, which covers the statistics in 2022 and 2023. Malaysians think the numbers could be higher Many believe that there are unreported crimes in Kelantan, especially sexual and drug-related crimes. And remember, these are only reported cases.
