Kelantan Govt open To Talks With Police, Mac Over LGBT Programme
Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said the meeting is to discuss and gain a clearer understanding of the event's organisation, so that the matter may be resolved diplomatically and dispel any unfounded allegations.
'Perhaps the mistake made was not the organiser's fault. That's why it needs to be investigated first, so that the police are not wrongfully blamed by the public. The police have their job, and on the other side, MAC also has its responsibilities.
'Any programme that goes against the state government's policies and the customs of the Kelantanese people is something we simply cannot accept,' he said during a press conference after the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session at the Kota Darulnaim Complex here today.
He said that for programmes touching on sensitivities, especially when held within village communities, permission must first be obtained from the relevant authorities such as the Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAHEIK), the police and others.
Commenting further, Mohamed Fadzli said the state government could also take appropriate action if any event is found to have violated regulations set by the state government.
In mid-June, Kelantan police raided an LGBT-related event involving more than 20 local men at a bungalow in Jalan Kemumin here.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat was reported as saying that the operation was conducted based on public tip-offs and intelligence gathered by a special task force, following complaints about the event.
A search of the premises uncovered hundreds of condoms and several boxes of HIV medication stored in a special room believed to be used as a storage place by the organisers.

Theft by addicts main factor in index crime spike
ALOR STAR: Theft by drug addicts has become the leading cause of rising index crime rates in Kedah, said police chief Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah. From Jan 1 to yesterday, Kedah recorded 2,852 index crime cases, with 47 per cent involving theft linked to drug addicts, he said. "Kedah police will maintain the focus outlined by former police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh, which is to eradicate drug-related crime. "We believe that if drug issues can be tackled and eliminated as much as possible, the overall index crime rate in Kedah can be brought down," he said. Adzli was responding to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail's recent comments in conjunction with the 2025 National Anti-Drug Day celebration held in Jitra last Friday, urging the Kedah government to step up efforts to remove the state from the top four nationwide for drug addiction rates. On a separate note, he said Kedah police are stepping up border security measures despite the ongoing Thailand-Cambodia conflict occurring far from the state's northern border. "Precautionary steps are being taken by strengthening security at Malaysia's border checkpoints," he said, adding that despite growing support from agencies such as the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, constant vigilance remains essential. "We must not let our guard down. We are committed to ensuring the country's borders remain secure," he said. Earlier, Adzli attended the rank insignia presentation ceremony for the Kedah police chief and deputy police chief, along with the handover ceremony for the deputy chief post, witnessed by Special Branch director CP Datuk Ibrahim Darus at the police contingent headquarters. Adzli, who was the acting police chief, was officially appointed to the role and promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP). MCMC probes company over online sale of uncertified communication devices
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched an investigation into a company suspected of selling uncertified communication devices online. In a statement today, MCMC said the probe follows a joint operation with the police under the integrated enforcement initiative Op Taring Bravo 3, which involved multiple enforcement agencies. The operation uncovered 3,837 units of various communication devices, such as wireless gaming consoles, remote controls, smart devices and tablets, estimated to be worth RM500,000, which were seized by the police and handed over to MCMC for technical analysis and further review. "These devices are believed to have been marketed without valid technical certification from MCMC," the commission said. The case is being investigated under Regulation 16 of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, which carries a maximum fine of RM300,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, upon conviction. MCMC stressed its commitment to enforcing regulations to safeguard consumers and uphold market integrity. It urged the public to report any information regarding the sale or distribution of such devices through MCMC's official complaint channels or directly to the police. – Bernama

Offenders compulsory attendance order to reduce prison overcrowding
KUALA LUMPUR: The Offenders Compulsory Attendance (Amendment) Bill 2025 was passed in the Dewan Rakyat today, with Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah stating its primary aim is to address prison overcrowding. He revealed that as of July 22, Malaysian prisons housed 83,827 inmates, exceeding the capacity of 76,311. Another 5,759 offenders are undergoing community rehabilitation. 'Overcrowding creates an unconducive environment, increasing disease risks and reducing rehabilitation effectiveness,' Shamsul Anuar said during the debate. The bill expands eligibility for compulsory attendance orders (PKW) to offenders facing up to 10 years' imprisonment, up from the current three-year limit. Shamsul Anuar noted that since 2010, 8,227 offenders have undergone PKW with a 94.5% success rate, while only 5.25% had orders revoked. Rehabilitation modules under PKW include intervention programmes, counselling, and religious courses. The minister also highlighted financial burdens and security risks linked to overcrowding, such as riots and strikes. The Dewan Rakyat sitting resumes tomorrow. - Bernama
