Menfi forms technical committee to inspect electricity and oil contracts
The media office of Presidential Council's Head Mohammed Menfi announced that, in his capacity as head of the High Financial Committee, he intends to issue a decision to form a specialized technical committee to inspect and audit contracts in the oil and electricity sectors, with the aim of reviewing spending patterns and contractual obligations. According to Central Bank of Libya data, the total expenditures of the National Oil Corporation during 2023–2024 amounted to 24.2 billion Libyan dinars, while total spending by the electricity company during the same period reached 10.3 billion dinars, both under the exceptional financial arrangements budget line. British official: UK working to resume consular services in Tripoli, lift ban on Libyan aviation
A British Foreign Office official has said that authorities in London are making intensive efforts to resume the work of the consular section in Tripoli and to lift the ban on Libyan aviation. The statement came during a meeting on Monday between Abu Bakr Al-Tuwail, Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity, and Owen Jenkins, Director General for the Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign Office, according to a post by the ministry on its Facebook page. The meeting discussed ways to support, strengthen, and consolidate bilateral relations in various fields to serve the common interests of the two friendly countries. It also explored the possibility of resuming the consular section's work at the British embassy in Tripoli to ease the difficulties faced by Libyan citizens seeking UK visas, as well as the issue of lifting the ban on Libyan civil aviation. The two sides also touched on the outcomes of the visit by Hamish Falconer, UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, to Libya. According to the ministry, the British official praised the positive role played by the Government of National Unity in promoting stability and comprehensive development in Libya. He also confirmed that the relevant authorities in London are making vigorous efforts to resume consular services in Tripoli and to lift the ban on Libyan aviation. The Director of the European Affairs Department stressed the depth of bilateral relations between Libya and the United Kingdom and commended the important role the UK plays in supporting the political process in Libya.
