
Presidential Council expresses commitment to municipal council elections
Chairman of the Presidential Council, Fayez Sarraj, discussed in a meeting with the Chairman of the Central Committee for the Elections of Municipal Councils, Salim bin Tahia, the condition of municipalities that have not yet completed their elections.
Sarraj stressed during the meeting the need to adhere to the stages of completion of municipal council elections in various regions of Libya.
Sarraj expressed commitment of the Presidential Council to the democratic process, adding his government is adopting an option of decentralization and giving broad powers to municipalities, according to the information office of the Presidential Council. British official: UK working to resume consular services in Tripoli, lift ban on Libyan aviation
A British Foreign Office official has said that authorities in London are making intensive efforts to resume the work of the consular section in Tripoli and to lift the ban on Libyan aviation. The statement came during a meeting on Monday between Abu Bakr Al-Tuwail, Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity, and Owen Jenkins, Director General for the Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign Office, according to a post by the ministry on its Facebook page. The meeting discussed ways to support, strengthen, and consolidate bilateral relations in various fields to serve the common interests of the two friendly countries. It also explored the possibility of resuming the consular section's work at the British embassy in Tripoli to ease the difficulties faced by Libyan citizens seeking UK visas, as well as the issue of lifting the ban on Libyan civil aviation. The two sides also touched on the outcomes of the visit by Hamish Falconer, UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, to Libya. UN envoy outlines plan to revive Libya's stalled political process
The UN's top official in Libya has presented Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah with a plan aimed at breaking the country's political deadlock and paving the way for long-delayed elections. Hanna Tetteh, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative, met PM Dbeibah in Tripoli on Sunday to brief him on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya's (UNSMIL) strategy for fostering dialogue between rival factions. According to the prime minister's office, the plan seeks to end the country's protracted transitional period by establishing a firm legal and constitutional framework for holding free and transparent elections.
