Bethesda man kidnaps woman at gunpoint, barricades himself in vehicle: police
A Bethesda man is facing multiple charges after police say he kidnapped a woman at gunpoint and barricaded himself in a vehicle.
Officers observed the woman, who was a passenger, jump out of the suspect's vehicle.
The suspect, 31-year-old Robert Deeter of Bethesda, has been charged with kidnapping, first-degree assault, stalking, harassment and multiple handgun charges.
GAITHERSBURG, Md. - A Bethesda man has been arrested after police say he kidnapped a woman at gunpoint and barricaded himself in a vehicle.
The suspect, 31-year-old Robert Deeter of Bethesda, has been charged with kidnapping, first-degree assault, stalking, harassment and multiple handgun charges.
Montgomery County police responded to the area for the report of a kidnapping on Friday, April 18, in the 10300 block of Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda around 2:33 p.m.
During the investigation, officers located Deeter in the 7000 block of Democracy Boulevard, driving a red Toyota RAV4 in the area and observed a woman on the passenger side.
Officers followed Deeter to the area of Rockledge Drive and I-270, where the woman jumped out of the vehicle. Officers spoke with the woman victim, who confirmed that Deeter, who she knew, had kidnapped her at gunpoint.
Officers continued to follow Deeter to the area of Old Georgetown Road and Beech Avenue, where he barricaded himself inside the vehicle and refused to get out of the car.
Negotiators communicated with Deeter and successfully convinced him to surrender. Deeter was taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle. He is being held without bond pending a bond hearing.

Driver accused of DUI in fatal South Bay chain-reaction crash
A driver was killed and another was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in a chain-reaction crash that involved four cars on Highway 101 in the East Palo Alto area early Sunday, authorities said. Molotov cocktails, homeland security impersonation: Indiana man sentenced in federal case
An Anderson man will serve over five years for possessing Molotov cocktails and impersonating Homeland Security, according to the Southern District of Indiana's Attorney's Office. Joshua Stearman, 42, was sentenced to 65 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release after homemade firebombs, called Molotov cocktails, were found in his Toyota RAV4, officials said. 'Thanks to the swift actions of local law enforcement and the expert analysis of our federal partners," said the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, Tom Wheeler, "this dangerous individual was stopped before he could carry out a potentially deadly attack.' Officers were dispatched around 1:47 a.m. on Dec. 12, 2023 after a suspicious man was seen outside a house in Ingalls, Indiana that had been vandalized and set on fire twice. A witness saw Stearman approach the house holding something, then flee to his SUV when security lights went on. When Ingalls police confronted Stearman, officials said he was wearing black gloves with duct tape around his wrists. He presented them with a fake government ID and told them he was a Homeland Security Officer returning from a mission. Officers found a lighter and four Molotov cocktails in his car. It is generally illegal to possess Molotov cocktails under federal law, officials said.

A reckless Bronx driver who allegedly struck and killed a car wash employee – pinning him against a vehicle he was drying – has been arrested more than two years later, cops said. Trina Bryant, 32, was picked up at her home by the NYPD's Warrants Squad Thursday afternoon in connection to the caught-on-video Feb. 19, 2023 crash in Morrisania, authorities said. She was charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.
