Driver accused of DUI in fatal South Bay chain-reaction crash
The crash occurred around 2 a.m. on the northbound side of the freeway, south of University Avenue, where the driver of an Acura SUV rear ended a Toyota RAV 4, disabling the Acura, the California Highway Patrol said. The driver of a Subaru SUV then collided into the Toyota before crashing into the concrete center median.
The driver of a BMW sedan then crashed into one of the other cars, the CHP said.
The Subaru driver suffered fatal injuries, the CHP said. The Toyota driver and a passenger were taken to a hospital with major injuries. The Acura and BMW drivers were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The Acura driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI resulting in injuries to others, the CHP said.
The names of the Subaru driver and the Acura driver were not released. The investigation was ongoing, the CHP said. The agency did not release further details.

Driver killed in Pomona after loose truck tire slams into car window on 60 Freeway
A driver was killed early Monday morning when a loose truck tire slammed into their windshield on the 60 Freeway in Pomona. It happened a little before 2:30 a.m. on eastbound lanes near the Garey Avenue off-ramp, according to California Highway Patrol officers. Driver hospitalized, another arrested after street race ends in crash in Modesto, CHP says
A driver was hospitalized and another is behind bars after authorities said they were racing on Highway 99 in Modesto when one driver crashed. The California Highway Patrol said a Corvette driver and a Mustang driver were racing each other on northbound Highway 99 north of Standiford Avenue Sunday afternoon. The driver of the Corvetter lost control and the vehicle left the right shoulder before it overturned several times and came to a rest on its roof on Sisk Road, the CHP said.
