Yorkshire teens win in BAFTA Young Game Designer Competition
Two teenagers from Yorkshire have scooped prizes at a national competition for young video game designers.13-year-old Thiago, from Sheffield, and 14-year-old Tanisi, from Leeds, were crowned winners in the BAFTA Young Game Designer Competition. They were selected from 52 finalists aged between 10 and 18, who each created a game or a game concept.Their work will be showcased at the Power Up video game exhibition in London, Manchester, and Bradford, as well as at a BAFTA showcase event.
Thiago won in the age 10-14 Game Making Award category. He created a game called Sir Floofington, where the player controls a knight who wields a broom whilst hunting for the Golden Floof. He said he had been inspired by other dungeon crawlers where the player fights enemies and hunts for treasure, but had wanted to put his own spin on them.He added he had also been inspired by his dad, who is a game producer."I've always wanted to get the ideas that I have in my head out into code, that way other people can enjoy them as much as I do," he said."I might see a game on YouTube and think it's great, then have a long train of thought about how I can make it better and different."He said it feels "really, really wonderful" to have won."I've seen everyone else's games and they're really good, so I feel really humbled."
Tanisi won in the age 10-14 Game Concept Award category, for her idea for a psychological horror game.Called The Undead, the game which would let the player control a character trying to find their missing family in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies. She said she "loves storytelling", but had not written a story for a video game before now.She said she was "so grateful" that someone else had seen the vision she had been trying to convey in her proposal."I didn't know if it was going to be seen in the way I saw it," she said.
Inel Tomlinson, host of the competition's online prize ceremony, said: "It's refreshing to see such real, thought provoking, human ideas from these young game designers, and I'm truly excited to see what they'll create in the future."Judge and game producer Dan Ayoub said: "As someone who's been making games for many years, this experience left me deeply inspired—and incredibly optimistic about the future of our industry.""It was an absolute honour to serve on the judging panel, and beyond the joy of working alongside brilliant developers, I was genuinely humbled by the level of talent, creativity, and ambition these young creators brought."

Sam Thompson has awkward reunion with ex-girlfriend as it's revealed he's split with Samie Elishi after two months
SAM Thompson had an awkward run-in with one of his exes after it was revealed he'd split from Samie Elishi. Yesterday The Sun told how Sam, 32, and Love Island star Samie, 25, had called time on their romance after just two months. 4 4 4 And the former Made In Chelsea star attended Buckingham Palace for The King's Trust Awards - where he bumped into former flame Sophie Habboo. Pregnant Sophie, 30, who dated Sam for six months in 2018, was at the event with husband Jamie Laing. Jamie, 36, later took to Instagram to share a snap of them posing together with Fearne Cotton. But Fearne, 43, later took a swipe at Jamie and Sophie after they shared a clip of them recreating Meghan and Harry's infamous 'Baby Mama' dance on the Grand Staircase. Jamie posted the video to his 1.6 million Instagram followers, writing: 'They said we couldn't film in Buckingham Palace." After Jamie and Sophie posted their hilarious video mocking the Sussexes, Fearne appeared to take a dig at the pair. Writing in the comments next to video, the podcaster said: 'You also had your pap camera out with a flash. "Think of what the flash has done to those priceless paintings." Sam and Sophie got together while starring on Made In Chelsea but she ended their relationship because he gave her too much attention. She told new! magazine: 'His best [attribute] was he doted on my hand and foot, but his worst was maybe that he doted on me too much. 'Some girls like that, I don't. For me, I don't like someone who's needy. Independence is key.' Sam and Samie confirmed they were dating in early May when they were spotted sharing a steamy kiss on a night out. But yesterday an insider told us of their split: 'It was a mutual thing and there is no bad blood between them. "They both just have really busy schedules, particularly Sam who has been non-stop recently, and it was really hard to make it work. They're still good mates. "It's a shame but sometimes things just don't work out.' Their romance came after Sam split from Zara McDermott in January. Zara, 28, is now in a relationship with One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson. 4

Lewis Capaldi releases comeback song Survive amid Glastonbury rumours
Lewis Capaldi has released a rousing comeback single about his determination to overcome his personal struggles after two years out of the public Scottish singer is also heavily rumoured to be making an unannounced appearance at Glastonbury on Friday, two years after an emotional performance when festival fans lent their vocal support as his voice then retreated from the spotlight to get his "physical and mental health in order" and "adjust to the impact" of a Tourette's addressed his private battles on the gutsy Survive, which was released at midnight, and which opens with the line: "How long 'til it feels / Like the wound's finally starting to heal?" The lyrics go on: "Most nights I fear / That I'm not enough / I've had my share of Monday mornings when I can't get up."The lines "But when hope is lost / And I come undone" then lead into the deliberately contradictary chorus: "I swear to God I'll survive / If it kills me to / I'm gonna get up and try / If it's the last thing I do."In the song, the 28-year-old also defiantly sings that he refuses "to spend my best years rotting in the sun" and is determined "to get up and live / Until the day that I die".The release coincided with a message on Instagram saying "It's been a while..." accompanied by a video montage of clips from his career."Welcome back brother," wrote fellow singer Tom Grennan on fan added: "I didn't plan on starting my day with tears, but wow, your lyrics never disappoint. Incredibly happy you are ready to be back for a bit." Days later, he cancelled all concerts "for the foreseeable future", saying he was "still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's", and needed time to work on his health "so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come".In an update on New Year's Eve 2023, he told fans he had "noticed a marked improvement" in both his Tourette's and anxiety issues, but wanted to "make absolutely sure I'm 100% before getting back out there again properly for more shows".He made a low-key comeback at a benefit gig for the Campaign Against Living Miserably (Calm) mental health charity in Edinburgh this will be his first high-profile appearance, if he does - as widely expected - fill the "TBA" slot on the Pyramid Stage at 16:55 BST on that is the case, he will undoubtedly be met by huge support from the festival for a Lewis Capaldi lookalike contest to take place 10 minutes before that slot have also appeared on the site.
