Group Chairman, says Vodafone's AGR dues and operational struggles continue despite some positive developments. The company faces significant financial challenges with substantial dues and ongoing customer losses. So, Vodafone remains a speculative stock. Bandyopadhyay recommends Bharti Airtel or Bharti Hexacom as better investment options in the telecom sector due to their strong performance and potential benefits from future price hikes.: The statement is definitely a welcome development from a Vodafone perspective. But we have seen too many flip-flops and too many things changing as far as Vodafone and this entire AGR due related issue. Of course, conceptually we should not have a duopoly and we should have more players and competition, but the reality is Vodafone has been suffering for a very long time. And beyond all these dues, operationally also Vodafone has not been performing well. They are still losing customers on a monthly basis and that definitely points to operational weakness.Yes, the rate of loss of customers on a monthly basis has come down, but the fact remains that they are still losing customers and that definitely is not a good sign. Of course, the balance sheet needs major amendment, because even at the end of this year, unless something is done, their AGR dues is about Rs 16,000 crore and there is no way Vodafone can pay this amount through internal accruals. So, they need either a waiver or a postponement by the government or some kind of major fund infusion because bank loans are very difficult for them to get.Under these circumstances, Vodafone still remains a speculative stock and if one has to play the telecom space, they should look at Bharti Airtel or Bharti Hexacom. Both are doing well and are definitely good buys. Even if we look at the last price hike which the telecom companies took, the biggest beneficiary has been Bharti Airtel. The flow into the P&L has been best for Bharti. One more hike is expected during the current fiscal and that should benefit Bharti Airtel disproportionately. Under these circumstances that is one stock one should look at.Insurance is humongous and we are just scratching the surface. But the reality is, as you rightly said, these have not flown into the numbers of the listed companies at least and under these circumstances, one has to take a slightly long-term view if you are investing in insurance companies. Life insurance is a sector which has got significant potential and amongst the listed companies, LIC merits attention for multiple factors. While the performance has not been anything great in the recent past compared to private peers, the fact remains that the potential is huge and things have started improving at LIC's level and valuation-wise it still definitely seems attractive compared with private peers. So, LIC from a long-term perspective can be definitely looked at. One can look at SBI Life as well and it also offers value for money opportunity at this stage considering the strength in bancassurance and the strength of channel business as far as this insurance is concerned.

Yogayatan knocks on NCLT's doors over lenders' decision to allow revised bids for Lavasa
Synopsis Yogayatan Group has filed a petition with the NCLT, opposing the lenders' decision to allow revised resolution plans for Lavasa Corp after Yogayatan emerged as the highest bidder. The company fears that Valor Estates' increased bid after the initial offers were opened could compromise the integrity and timeline of the CIRP process. Environmental issues and lack of crucial clearances by the government forced Lavasa's bankruptcy in 2018. Mumbai-based Yogayatan Group has filed a petition in the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) opposing creditors' move to allow revised resolution plans for taking over the debt-laden Lavasa reported by ET in its August 1 edition, Yogayatan had emerged as the highest bidder with its bid of Rs 795 crore on a net present value (NPV) basis after bidders had been given an opportunity to improve their offers after the first round of bidding last month. But after the bids were opened, Valor Estates, formerly DB Realty, which had not placed a revised bid, said it wanted to now increase its bid. The Mumbai-based company has offered to increase its bid to Rs 806 crore on an NPV this higher bid, lenders decided to give all bidders a chance to revise their resolution plans earlier this month. Yogayatan's NCLT plea is against this decision by managing director Ameya Pratap Singh confirmed his company's move in response to an ET query. "Yogayatan Group has approached the NCLT with the intention that the CIRP (corporate insolvency resolution process) of Lavasa is completed in a time-bound manner and the sanctity of the process is not vitiated to unfairly favour any party. For any bidder to offer to increase its bid after the financial offer of other bidders has been publicly disclosed is, in our opinion, dubious and legally untenable," Singh said in an email resolution professional Udayraj Patwardhan did not reply to an email seeking plea comes as lenders struggle to close the seven-year-old resolution process. Last year, lenders had to pull the plug on a Rs 1,814 crore plan approved in July 2023 from Darwin Platform Infrastructure (DPIL) after that company failed to pay its committed upfront amount in the specified have given bidders time till next week to revise their resolution issues and lack of crucial clearances by the government forced Lavasa's bankruptcy in 2018. Even at the highest bid, the total recovery is less than 13% of dues of over Rs 6,642 crore, after more than seven years of struggle. The new threat of litigation may delay resolution for India's first privately built and managed city.

UP CM highlights infrastructure and industrial growth, criticizes past governance
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed the Assembly on the fourth day of the Monsoon Session, reviewing eight and a half years of his government's work in infrastructure, investment, and industrial development. He contrasted the current period (2017–2025) with governance before 2017, citing slow development, limited connectivity, and lack of industrial policy in previous decades. According to the CM, capital expenditure in the state has more than doubled from Rs. 69,789 crore in 2017 to Rs. 1,47,719 crore in 2025. The number of expressways increased from two to 22 — seven operational, five under construction, and 10 proposed — creating what he described as India's largest expressway network. Uttar Pradesh now has 16 airports, including five under construction and five international airports, with Jewar International Airport nearing completion by year-end. Yogi highlighted major logistics projects such as the multimodal hub at Dadri and 27 industrial clusters along expressways, claiming these developments are reducing logistics costs and attracting investment. He said registered factories have risen from 14,169 in 2017 to 27,295 in 2025, with investment proposals worth Rs. 45 lakh crore, out of which projects worth Rs. 15 lakh crore have materialized, generating employment for over 60 lakh youth. The Chief Minister also noted initiatives supporting traditional crafts through the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme and the MSME Policy 2022. Uttar Pradesh ranks first in MSME units with 96 lakh enterprises, creating an estimated 1.75 crore jobs. Over 77 GI-tagged products now represent the state in global markets. Yogi criticized earlier administrations for weak industrial policies, poor law and order, and neglect of artisans, which, he claimed, forced many to migrate. He contrasted the influx of Chinese goods at festivals in previous years with the prominence of UP-made handicrafts today. Foreign investment has also grown, with FDI rising from Rs. 3,303 crore (2000–2017) to Rs. 16,316 crore since 2017. He cited the annual Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show as a platform where more than 500 domestic and foreign traders participated in 2024, securing orders worth Rs. 2,200 crore.
