Egypt, China FMs review Egyptian efforts to consolidate Gaza ceasefire deal
During a phone call on Saturday 22/2/2025, Abdelatty and Wang reviewed developments in the Middle East as well as the evolving situation in Sudan, Gaza and Syria.
Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's plan for the early recovery and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip, while the Palestinians remain on their lands, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf.
He added that the Egyptian plan is supported by the Arab nations, with the Chinese top diplomat sharing a similar support.
The two foreign minister said that they are looking forward to convening the joint government committee under their chairmanship, within the framework of putting into effect the outcomes of the strategic dialogue tour that took place in Beijing in December 2024, the spokesman said.
The expressed desire to boost bilateral economic and trade relations, through stimulating further Chinese investments in Egypt, for the benefit of both countries, the spokesman added.
The phone call tackled the updates in Sudan, with the Egyptian foreign minister emphasizing the necessity of respecting Sudan's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, along with reaching a ceasefire deal there, with a view to launching a comprehensive political process for all Sudanese powers meant to restore the country's security and stability, Khallaf noted.
They discussed the developments in Syria, underscoring the importance of launching a comprehensive political process entailing all components of the Syrian people, in order to stabilize Syria and contribute to the counter-terrorism and extremism efforts in the region, Khallaf added.

Nada Mustafa Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington to discuss ways of strengthening the close bilateral ties between Egypt and the United States (U.S.), as well as to exchange views on several regional and international issues of mutual concern. Durong their meeting, Abdelatty conveyed the greetings and appreciation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to President Donald Trump, affirming Egypt's pride in its longstanding strategic partnership with US. Moreover, he expressed Egypt's keenness to continue close coordination and cooperation with the U.S. administration under President Trump's leadership to deepen the partnership in political, security, military, and economic spheres, especially during this critical period for the Middle East. He also reiterated Egypt's interest in resuming the U.S.-Egypt Strategic Dialogue on a regular basis. Both ministers explored avenues to boost economic, trade, and investment cooperation. In this regard, Abdelatty praised the outcomes of the Egypt-U.S. Business Forum held in Cairo last May, which saw the participation of more than 50 American companies, including 12 firms entering the Egyptian market for the first time. This, he noted, reflects Egypt's commitment to attracting foreign investment and enhancing economic partnerships with the United States. Furthermore, the two ministers emphasized the importance of continuing coordination to convene a new round of meetings for the Joint Economic Commission and another edition of the Egypt-U.S. Business Forum to expand bilateral economic cooperation. The talks included extensive discussions on urgent regional developments, foremost among them the catastrophic situation in Gaza, the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, and ongoing challenges in Libya, Syria, Lebanon, and Africa, as well as concerns related to Egypt's water security. On the Palestinian issue, Abdelatty reiterated the necessity of reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza. He emphasized the importance of ending bloodshed and ensuring the sustained flow of humanitarian aid into the besieged territory, which is suffering from a deliberate Israeli starvation policy. He also called for urgent action to address the worsening humanitarian crisis and stressed the need to revive a political horizon for a just and sustainable resolution to the Palestinian cause. This includes restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. In addition, Abdelatty expressed hope for continued close collaboration with the U.S. administration to lay the foundation for comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East that serves all peoples of the region. Regarding Sudan, the two ministers discussed the importance of securing a ceasefire and facilitating humanitarian access. In the same context, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for Sudanese state institutions, emphasizing respect for Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. As for Egypt's water security, Abdelatty conveyed Egypt's concerns over the Nile River issue and reaffirmed Egypt's position that any agreement must comply with international law governing transboundary water resources. He stressed the urgent need to reach a legally binding agreement regulating the operation of the Ethiopian dam and rejected Ethiopia's unilateral actions, which violate international norms. 8.7 Million Tourists Visited Egypt in the First Half of 2025
Tourism revenues reached USD 12.5 billion from July 2024 to March 2025, reflecting a 15.4 percent increase from the previous year. Jul 31, 2025 Egypt welcomed 8.7 million tourists between January and June 2025, a 24% jump on the same period last year. From January to May alone, arrivals rose 26 percent year‑on‑year, with the first quarter accounting for 3.9 million visitors. Riding that momentum, officials are now targeting 17.5‑18 million arrivals for all of 2025, buoyed by strong demand from European and Arab markets, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. Tourism revenue reached USD 15.3 billion in 2024. Between July 2024 and March 2025, the sector generated USD 12.5 billion, up 15.4 percent year‑on‑year. The surge is driven by longer stays and higher spending per visitor, according to the ministry's statement.

Finance minister unveils EGP 5bn cash payout for 2,000 exporters on 7 August
Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance, announced that around 2,000 exporting companies will receive approximately EGP 5bn in cash payments on 7 August. This payment represents the first instalment—equivalent to 50%—allocated under the new Cabinet-approved mechanism for settling overdue export support payments. Covering shipments up to the end of June 2024, these payments are made through the Export Development Fund as part of the government's plan to clear all arrears owed to exporters over four consecutive fiscal years starting from the current one. The initiative is designed to support the export sector by providing liquidity to help exporters boost their exports and enhance the global competitiveness of Egyptian products. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday, Kouchouk added that, due to strong demand from exporters, the ministry will reopen applications from 17 August to 4 September 2025. This window will allow companies holding certificates from the Export Development Fund to submit the required documents and benefit from the mechanism, with a second payment scheduled for 18 September. He further noted that the current fiscal year includes the largest-ever allocation for export support in the state budget, amounting to EGP 45bn. This will enable the reimbursement of export burdens for the current fiscal year within just three months of file completion, under the new mechanism adopted by the Cabinet to fully settle outstanding dues. This builds on earlier successful programmes launched since 2019, including the Immediate Cash Payment initiative in its seven phases, which benefited around 3,000 exporting companies with total payments of roughly EGP 70bn. Nevine Mansour, Advisor to the Minister of Finance for Economic Institutional Relations, clarified that the first instalment under the new mechanism will be disbursed through the National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, Banque du Caire, and the Export Development Bank of Egypt. She added that, in cooperation with the Central Bank and the banking sector, payments for companies that do not hold accounts at these four banks will be transferred to their accounts at other banks without any administrative fees, further streamlining the disbursement process.
