‘The Big Bang Theory' spinoff adds two alums to cast — but they're playing new characters

The upcoming 'Big Bang Theory' spinoff 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' has several alums from the OG series on the cast — but some of them are playing new characters. Ryan Cartwright and Josh Brener will play Kyle and Trevor, respectively, on 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.' Both actors previously popped up in 'The Big Bang Theory,' which aired on CBS from 2007-2019. Cartwright played Penny's (Kaley Cuoco) classmate in episode 8 of season 6, and Brener appeared in two episodes — episode 10 of season 5 and episode 16 of season 6 — as a comic book store employee named Dale. Cartwright and Brener are billed as recurring characters on 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe,' but even some of the spinoff's main cast members had only small roles in the original series. John Ross Bowie (Barry Kripke) was in 25 episodes, Brian Posehn (Bert Kibbler) was in 15, and Lauren Lapkus (Denise) was in just eight episodes of the show's 12-season run. 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' star Kevin Sussman (Stuart Bloom) had the biggest footprint on 'The Big Bang Theory,' with appearances in 85 episodes. The new series will also feature a brand new face. Tommy Walker will portray Denise's boyfriend, Gary. As the title suggests, 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' follows the titular comic book store owner's quest to restore reality after he unwittingly creates a 'multiverse Armageddon.' The apocalyptic problem begins after Stuart breaks a device built by 'Big Bang Theory' OGs Sheldon and Leonard. Jim Parsons (Sheldon) and Johnny Galecki (Leonard) are not in the cast of the spinoff, but it's possible they could make a surprise cameo. READ MORE: Fall 2025 TV calendar: Save the date for these premieres 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' is the third 'Big Bang Theory' spinoff, after 'Young Sheldon' (2017-2024) and 'Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage' (2024-present). A premiere date for 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe,' which will air on HBO Max, has yet to be announced. 'The Big Bang Theory' is available to stream on HBO Max. ‘Tracker' season 3 cast changes: See who isn't coming back

Season 3 of 'Tracker' premieres on CBS on Sunday, October 19, but some stars aren't returning for the next chapter. Eric Graise (Bobby Exley) and Abby McEnany (Velma Bruin) both left the action drama series after season 2, TVLine confirmed in July. The exits came after Graise was absent from six episodes last season. Graise and McEnany's departures leave just two original 'Tracker' stars on the cast: Justin Hartley, who plays titular tracker Colter Shaw, and Fiona Rene, who plays attorney Reenie Greene. Robin Weigert, who played Colter's handler Teddi Bruin, previously left the show after season 1. The lack of a consistent ensemble cast kind of works for 'Tracker.' The protagonist, Colter, is a lone wolf who travels the country on his own, solving cases in exchange for reward money. Most of Hartley's conversations with Graise and McEnany's characters took place over the phone. 'Tracker' executive producer Elwood Reid told Us Weekly in May that he didn't 'want the show to be 'phone a friend' every week,' something Hartley agrees with him on. 'Justin is always challenging me on that. He's like, 'Do we need to do this? Do I need to call Bobby all the time?'' Reid said. READ MORE: 'The Rookie' season 8 cast changes: See who's returning and who's not While Graise's time on 'Tracker' has come to an end, a new character that was introduced during his season 2 absence is sticking around. Chris Lee, who plays Bobby's cousin Randy, will reprise his role in season 3. 'Randy came in and also gave something to the show that was different. There was a real warmth and fun when he came in,' Reid told Us Weekly in an interview published on Tuesday, August 12. 'It was something that I think we were missing a little bit too in some episodes. He just was immediately fun when he came in. … That's all stuff we're going to continue to play with in season 3 as the show evolves.' Of course, Hartley will be back, as will Rene. Jensen Ackles, who guest starred on season 2 of 'Tracker,' will make another appearance as Colter's brother Russell Shaw on season 3. He confirmed his involvement in a July Instagram video, filming himself outside two trailers with the names 'Colter' and 'Russell' on them. Seasons 1 and 2 of 'Tracker' are available to stream on Paramount+. Our journalism needs your support. Please subscribe today to Have a tip? Tell us at Solve the daily Crossword
