Coldplay's Surprise Hit Jumps To A New Peak — Again

Coldplay regularly lives on the Official Singles chart in the group's home country of the United Kingdom with some of its most famous songs like 'Yellow,' 'Viva La Vida,' and 'The Scientist.' In 2025, a seemingly long-forgotten cut, 'Sparks,' became a surprise win for the Grammy-winning outfit. The tune went viral on social media, and that success translated to a massive increase in both streams and sales. For several weeks now, 'Sparks' has been on the rise in the U.K., and as it jumps up the most important songs tally again, the Coldplay cut reaches a new peak position. Coldplay's 'Sparks' Hits a New High On the Official Singles chart — which uses a methodology that combines both streaming activity and sales to determine the 100 most consumed songs in the U.K. — 'Sparks' lifts from No. 39 to No. 36. The new smash makes it to that position eight weeks into its life on the competitive tally. An Immediate Top 40 Success for Coldplay 'Sparks' debuted on the Official Singles chart in late June of this year. The song immediately became another top 40 success for Coldplay when it launched at No. 40. Since then, the track has risen and fallen, but not dramatically at any point. This turn is the second in a row in which 'Sparks' has hit a new high. 'Sparks' Reaches an All-Time High on the Streaming Roster While 'Sparks' is selling better than it has in years, plays on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and other competitors is playing the main role in sending the track upward. On the Official Singles Streaming chart, 'Sparks' jumps five spots to No. 75. A month into its time on the streaming-only roster, the viral tune sets a new high point. 'Yellow' and 'Viva La Vida' Coldplay claims a trio of wins on the Official Singles chart this frame. 'Yellow' improves from No. 98 to No. 91, while 'Viva La Vida' dips two spaces from No. 97 to No. 99, and barely holds on. The Official Charts Company developed a rule several years ago that states that all musical acts can only claim three successes at one time as a lead figure. Both 'Yellow' and 'Viva La Vida' join 'Sparks' on the Official Singles Streaming chart, as does 'The Scientist.' That latter track can often be found on the Official Singles roster, but since 'Sparks' is on the rise, there's no room for 'The Scientist' this week.

Dua Lipa Celebrates Her 30th Birthday Early in a Custom Backless Dress

Known for their fierce and confident nature, it's no surprise Leos are some of the Zodiac's most stylish stars. Between Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, and Dua Lipa, Leo suns are setting a high bar for next month's Virgos (see Beyoncé and Zendaya). On August 12, Lipa celebrated her 30th birthday in true Leo fashion: wearing head-to-toe designer, including a cutout-heavy Jacquemus dress. While Kylie Jenner rang in her 28th birthday at her Calabasas home, alongside Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner, Lipa jetted off to Mykonos, her "favorite island," with her "favorite people." Her birthday isn't until August 22, but the Grammy winner already shared post-party pics on Instagram, starring "the most gorgeous dress Simon made for me." That's Simon Jacquemus, creative director of Jacquemus and Lipa's close friend, who designed a high-neck, backless number for the occasion. (He also received an invitation to Mykonos, of course.) The birthday girl's custom dress was just as photogenic as the oceanside backdrop, as white micro-mini sequins shined from head-to-toe. It could easily double as a bridal little white dress once her wedding rolls around. The "Don't Start Now" singer's back was on full display, alongside an additional cut-out atop her hip. At first glance, the hip strap mimicked the thinness of a thong, but alas, this whale tail trick was just an illusion. It was connected to the sequin bodice. The price tag of Lipa's birthday dress will forever remain under wraps—it's custom, after all. The four-figure status of Lipa's accessories, however, is no secret. First, the Tiffany & Co. ambassador frosted herself in the silver Peretti Side Cuffs in various asymmetrical silhouettes. They match her Victoria diamond stud earrings, also in silver hardware. Suddenly, her budget jumped to five-figures with Tiffany & Co.'s Schlumberger Status Ring, which retails for $50,000. That's a few thousand less than the (rumored) $47,000 price tag of her four-carat engagement ring. To finish, Lipa carried the studded Mini Jodie Bag from Bottega Veneta, one of the rarest finds in her collection. View Deal View Deal View Deal Sure, Lipa is on her birthday trip, but her latest looks have also read very bridal. For her first outing in Mykonos, the bride-to-be went viral in all-white Chloé, including a boho-chic blouse, plus a matching ruffled swimsuit. The next day, Lipa's ivory streak continued with a polka-dot bikini from Inalbis. Since she said "yes" to fiancé Callum Turner in late 2024, Lipa's kept any and all wedding updates under wraps. In a June cover interview with Vogue, she shared she "wanted to finish my tour" before walking down the aisle. Lipa's Radical Optimism tour picks up again on September 1 and finishes in December, so perhaps she's planning an early 2026 wedding where she can wear her custom Jacquemus dress once again. Deftones Debut A Decades-Old Album As A Top 40 Bestseller

In only a matter of days, the rock band Deftones will release Private Music, its highly-anticipated tenth full-length. The group has already shared a handful of singles from the project, and excitement is reaching a fever pitch — not just for Private Music, but seemingly for everything connected to the hard rock outfit. That is certainly the case in the United Kingdom, where one of the group's earliest full-lengths is in the midst of a very meaningful frame. Around the Fur Debuts Inside the Top 40 The second Deftones project, Around the Fur, appears on multiple charts this week. The set even manages to debut on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, opening at No. 34. Deftones collect a sixth placement on the U.K.'s ranking of the top-selling titles available on vinyl. While Around the Fur is now the lowest-peaking set by the group on that tally, it finally becomes a top performer on vinyl decades after its initial release. Around the Fur Hits New All-Time Peaks At the same time that Around the Fur reaches the vinyl tally, Deftones also push the project to new high points on two other rankings. This frame, Around the Fur surges to No. 28 on the Official Physical Albums chart and No. 31 on the Official Album Sales roster — both of which mark newly-established peaks for the title, dozens of weeks into its time on the two tallies. Deftones Claim a Pair of Rock Bestsellers Around the Fur can also be found on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. 204 weeks into its time on the genre-specific roster, the Deftones classic jumps from No. 9 to No. 5, nearing its all-time high of No. 2. The group fills a pair of spaces on that ranking, as Around the Fur surges and White Pony reenters at No. 31. Around the Fur Dropped Back in 1997 Deftones released Around the Fur in the fall of 1997. The full-length brought the band to the main albums charts in both the United States and the U.K. for the first time. The title produced a pair of wins on the main singles list across the Atlantic, as 'My Own Summer (Shove It)' and 'Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)' climbed as high as Nos. 29 and 50, while the latter was also a rock radio success story in America.
