Blake Lively's excruciating exchange with Seth Meyers comes back to haunt her as she prepares for a return to the TV circuit on his show - nine years after their awkward encounter

Daily Mail01-05-2025

Blake Lively will return to NBC Studios for a reunion with chat show host Seth Meyers on Thursday evening, nine years after their last meeting got off to a less than promising start.
The beleaguered actress is returning to the talk show circuit - ostensibly to promote the release of her new film, A Simple Favor - after a tumultuous six month fallout from the release of her last.
Lively, 37, is currently embroiled in an ongoing and highly publicised legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni - which began when she sued him for sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign against her in December.
Ongoing proceedings have been exacerbated by a rumoured fallout with A Simple Favor co-star Anna Kendrick, who is understood to be concerned by the impact Lively's public spat is having on promotional duties for their latest film.
Just how impactful might be reflected in her forthcoming chat with Meyers, her first TV interview since dividing fans by initiating legal proceedings against Baldoni.
She may well be hoping for an easier ride, after her last chat with Meyers began with the host congratulating her on her pregnancy - before she'd even confirmed it
And she may well be hoping for an easier ride, after her last chat with Meyers began with the host congratulating her on her pregnancy - before she'd even confirmed it.
Lively - now a mother-of-four - was in the early stages of her second pregnancy while appearing on the show in 2016, and was yet to publicly announce she and husband Ryan Reynolds were expecting another baby.
Seemingly unaware of his imminent faux-pas, Meyers began: 'You have a baby at home, and you have another baby on the way, congratulations.'
'What makes you say that?' asked a stunned Lively as nervous laughter rippled through the studio audience. 'You know, you're not supposed to say that to a woman.'
Confirming the pregnancy, she added: 'Yes, you're guessing correctly. This is not brownies - I'll let you off the hook.'
Her imminent TV appearance comes after Marvel asked to be removed from legal proceedings and to quash a subpoena over the Nicepool character in Reynolds' Deadpool & Wolverine - which Baldoni previously claimed was 'bullying.'
Marvel has also asked for 'a protective order prohibiting the disclosure of Marvel's confidential documents by any party or other non-party in this action.
'Alternatively, Marvel requests that the Court stay the return date of the Subpoena and related document requests until after the Court decides the pending motion to dismiss of Counterclaim Defendant Ryan Reynolds.'
In the film Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds notably portrayed the character of Nicepool alongside other stars such as Hugh Jackman.
Nicepool was a 'variant' who sported a man-bun - which was also similar to a past hairstyle that Baldoni had worn.
In a scene, Nicepool makes a comment about Ladypool (played by Lively) and said, 'Oh my goodness, wait til you've seen Ladypool. She is gorgeous. She just had a baby too and [you] can't even tell.'
Deadpool responded, 'I don't think you're supposed to say that,' to which Nicepool added, 'That's okay I identify as a feminist.'
The comments seemingly referenced Baldoni referring to himself as a feminist in the past.
Lively had also given birth to her fourth child shortly before filming It Ends With Us - which Baldoni both starred in and directed. In her lawsuit, the actress claimed that he had 'criticised her body and weight.'
Lively is currently embroiled in an ongoing legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni - which began when she sued him for sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign against her in December.
On Monday, Baldoni's own legal team sent in a response to Marvel's recent request.
In a letter to the judge, obtained by PEOPLE, his lawyers stated that Marvel 'did not meet and confer with us "in a good faith effort to resolve this dispute."'
Baldoni's legal team wrote: 'On April 2, 2025, Marvel sent the Wayfarer Parties a letter containing its objections to the Subpoena, which are the same objections set forth in its recent letter-motion.
'On April 7, 2025, my office met and conferred with Marvel's counsel via telephone about the objections, and although we attempted in good faith to address Marvel's purported concerns about confidentiality and relevancy, Marvel's counsel interrupted us, refusing to engage in that discussion.'
They added, 'Instead, Marvel's counsel interjected and stated he merely wanted to know what documents the Wayfarer Parties "really" needed, regardless of the Subpoena's demand for all documents concerning: (a) the creation, development, modification or portrayal of Ryan Reynolds' "Nicepool" character from Deadpool & Wolverine; and (b) Justin Baldoni.'
Lively has slowly been stepping back into the spotlight and recently made an appearance at the star-studded Time100 Gala in New York City.

Neil Patrick Harris is Deadpool in new Marvel VR game

Wade Wilson has a new voice (Marvel/Meta) Marvel has announced a new VR game centred around Deadpool, from the studio behind 'Splosion Man and Comic Jumper. There are a huge number of Marvel games in development at the moment, including Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra and a new fighting game from Arc System Works, but now another has been added to the pile at Summer Game Fest. Surprisingly, it's a VR game starring quippy anti-hero Deadpool, created by Twisted Pixel ('Splosion Man) and Oculus Studios in collaboration with Marvel Games. Even more surprisingly, Deadpool has a brand new voice, in Neil Patrick Harris, best known for starring in How I Met Your Mother, Netflix's A Series Of Unfortunate Events, and Doogie Howser, M.D. Marvel's Deadpool VR features a new original story, where the superhero is pulled into a portal to Mojoworld. After he signs a dodgy contract without reading the fine print, he's sent off to visit a bunch of locations from across the Marvel universe, facing villains both iconic and, as noted by the developers, 'not-so-iconic'. The gameplay blends parkour and combat, with a style described as 'if you can imagine it, you can probably do it'. Based on the trailer, you can shoot, throw your gun, wield enemies in a grappling beam, shove people against propellers, and skewer heads with your swords. As you'd expect from Deadpool, it's all appropriately meta, with one nod levelled at a certain web-slinger on PlayStation: 'Spider-Man gets Insomniac, and I get this sh*t?' If you're a fan of Deadpool, this seems to be hitting all the right notes and Harris seems like a perfect fit for the character. We'll have to see though, if it can match the heights of fellow superhero VR title, Batman: Arkham Shadow. While Twisted Pixel were originally known for games like 'Splosion Man and Comic Jumper on the Xbox 360, in recent years the studio has created VR titles. The combat in Deadpool appears to be an evolution of their last action game, 2019's Path Of The Warrior. Marvel's Deadpool VR is slated to release late 2025 and is exclusive to Meta Quest 3 and 3S. If you fancy more Marvel games, Insomniac is working on a Wolverine project, an Iron Man game is in development at EA, and a throwback beat 'em up titled Marvel Cosmic Invasion is set to launch this year. 'I just don't think it's fair': Weinstein juror threatens to quit over other jurors' actions

NEW YORK, June 6 (Reuters) - The judge overseeing former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein's rape and sexual assault trial refused on Friday to dismiss a juror who said some jurors were treating others on the 12-person panel unfairly. "I just don't think it's fair and just," the juror told New York Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber in court, referring to things other jurors were saying and doing behind another juror's back. "There is a bit of a shunning happening," the juror said. The juror asked to be dismissed but Farber said there was no legal basis to do so after the juror confirmed that no one on the jury panel was pressuring him to change his view of the case. "If any other juror feels they need to talk to me, they can," the judge said. Weinstein's lawyers said they would make a proposal on how to address the matter later on Friday. Friday was the second day of jury deliberations. No other jurors were present during the exchange. Farber dismissed alternates from the jury on Thursday. Weinstein, 73, was convicted of rape by a Manhattan jury in February 2020, but the New York Court of Appeals threw out the conviction and ordered a new trial, citing errors by the trial judge. Prosecutors say the Academy Award-winning producer raped aspiring actress Jessica Mann in 2013 and assaulted two other women in 2006 and 2002. Weinstein, who has denied ever having non-consensual sex or assaulting anyone, has pleaded not guilty. He faces up to 25 years in prison for two counts of criminal sexual acts and up to four years for one count of rape. Weinstein is already serving a 16-year prison sentence after being found guilty in December 2022 of rape in a separate California case. Prosecutors with the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg have portrayed Weinstein as a serial predator who promised career advancement in Hollywood to women, only to then coax them into private settings where he attacked them. Weinstein's defense lawyers have said his encounters with the women were consensual and accused them of lying about being raped after failing to make it big in Hollywood by sleeping with him.
