Egypt FM delivers El-Sisi's message to Niger president on strengthening ties - Foreign Affairs
During a meeting in Niamey, Abdelatty and Tchiani discussed several issues of mutual concern, foremost among them the developments in the Sahel and West Africa, according to the Egyptian foreign ministry.
Both sides also addressed the escalating security challenges in Africa associated with the spread of terrorist organisations and armed groups. They also discussed the situation in neighbouring African countries and its impact on regional security and stability.
The Egyptian FM emphasised the strategic importance of Niger's stability to Egypt's national security, considering the African Sahel region a natural extension of Egypt's strategic neighbourhood.
Furthermore, Abdelatty shed light on the growing terrorist threats and the increasing number of armed groups across Africa and the necessity of enhancing security cooperation between Egypt and Niger.
The meeting also addressed ongoing cooperation in combating terrorism and extremist ideologies, where Abdelatty highlighted the vital role of Al-Azhar as a beacon of moderation, tolerance, and the promotion of Islam's centrist approach.
For his part, the Nigerien president conveyed his greetings to President El-Sisi, expressing his country's gratitude for Egypt's supportive stance toward the Nigerien people and its consistent efforts to stand by Niger in facing its security and development challenges.
Tchiani also praised Egypt's leading role in the region and globally. He lauded Al-Azhar's valuable support of religious and cultural education in Niger.
Meeting Nigerien FM
During his visit to Niamey, the Egyptian FM also met with his Nigerien counterpart Yaou Sangaré Bakary, where they discussed the security challenges in Africa linked to the spread of terrorism and organised crime.
Abdelatty outlined Egypt's pioneering experience in combating terrorism through a comprehensive approach that considers security, development, and cultural aspects. He affirmed Cairo's readiness to share its expertise with Niger and the countries of the Sahel.
During the meeting, both sides also addressed the situation in the Sahel and West Africa, stressing the need to strengthen joint African action to confront security and development challenges.
Abdelatty and Bakary further emphasised the importance of continued consultation and coordination on regional developments of mutual concern.
For his part, the Nigerien FM expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's ongoing support, praising Cairo's active role in championing African issues . He looked forward to deepening cooperation with Egypt in various fields to serve the interests of both peoples.
According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a political consultation mechanism to strengthen institutional coordination and broaden the prospects for bilateral ties and cooperation.
Abdelatty also held a meeting with the Egyptian community in Niger.
The Egyptian FM's visit to Niamey marks his third stop in his five-leg West African tour that includes Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, and Senegal.

Egypt's PM orders road maintenance review, tougher penalties to curb accidents
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has ordered a comprehensive review of all road maintenance nationwide and called for stiffer penalties for traffic violations in an effort to curb road accidents, particularly on the Regional Ring Road. Madbouly chaired a meeting on Sunday in the city of New Alamein to follow up on measures to address the accidents, his office said in a statement. The prime minister acknowledged that while the state has made significant progress in expanding and improving its road network, the focus must now shift to reducing accidents. 'There is a technical aspect that we, as a government, will deal with, but there is another aspect related to the behaviour and violations committed by some drivers,' Madbouly said. He stressed that all practices by drivers must be governed and that while there are problems on some roads, they will be addressed through quality operation and maintenance. Madbouly directed the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, to conduct a comprehensive review of all road maintenance, regardless of which authority has jurisdiction over them. At the same time, Madbouly said the government would begin to tighten penalties for driving violations and work on an awareness axis. 'There will be deterrent penalties for driving violations,' he said, adding that the awareness campaign would be approached from a religious perspective through the Ministry of Awqaf, and a general awareness perspective through several other ministries and relevant bodies. During the meeting, El-Wazir explained that the 400-km Regional Ring Road is a vital link between all major road arteries in the country and plays a crucial role in connecting various sea and dry ports. He outlined a two-phase plan to develop and upgrade the entire road. El-Wazir also reviewed measures already taken to address accidents on the ring road, noting that, following a presidential directive, sections of the road undergoing maintenance have been closed to protect citizens' lives. He said a committee of specialists had been formed to implement a plan for traffic flow on alternative routes, which will be equipped with various warning signs. The committee also recommended replacing small plastic barriers in traffic diversions with fixed concrete barriers, closing all openings in central and side barriers to reduce wrong-way driving, increasing warning signs and night lighting in development sections, and reducing the length of diversions. The committee also stressed the need for complete traffic control in diversions, monitored by cameras and radars, and the activation of security inspection areas to enforce speed limits and reduce violations, especially by heavy transport vehicles.

Egypt, South Africa pledge to deepen development cooperation at G20 meeting
Egypt and South Africa have pledged to deepen their cooperation on development and align their perspectives on regional and global issues, Egypt's planning ministry said, following a meeting between the two countries' ministers on the sidelines of the G20 Development Ministerial Meetings. In a statement, the ministry said Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, met with Maropene Lydia Ramokgopa, South Africa's Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, during the meetings hosted and chaired by South Africa. Al-Mashat expressed Egypt's appreciation for the invitation to participate in the G20 meetings, where it has been a guest nation for the past five years. She affirmed Egypt's commitment to coordinating with South Africa during its G20 presidency to advance the restructuring of the global financial system and achieve tangible progress in development financing. The minister also commended South Africa's leadership for highlighting the development challenges facing the African continent. The two ministers emphasised the strategic importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in fostering economic growth and regional integration and called for closer cooperation to support its implementation. They also stressed the importance of expanding infrastructure projects across the continent, such as the Cairo–Cape Town Corridor, to drive development and boost competitiveness. Al-Mashat showcased Egypt's national structural reform programme and its flagship 'NWFE' programme for mobilising climate finance, noting that it was included, along with South Africa's national climate platform, in the final communiqué of the recent Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville. For her part, the South African minister praised Egypt's leadership in advancing development across Africa and amplifying the continent's voice in global forums. She commended Egypt's leadership of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), which the African Union recently extended until February 2026. Al-Mashat also welcomed the final ministerial declaration from the G20 meetings, which emphasised the need to broaden social protection systems, combat illicit financial flows, and prioritise domestic resource mobilisation to close development financing gaps.

Al-Sisi reviews transport, industry projects, urges drive to make Egypt global logistics hub
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi held a meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport and Industry Kamel Al-Wazir, and Presidential Financial Advisor General Ahmed El-Shazly to review the progress of key transport and industrial development projects, according to a statement by the presidency. Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said the meeting focused on advancing railway projects, particularly the Arish–Taba line and the Bir Al-Abd–Arish extension, which are designed to spur development in the Sinai Peninsula and create a logistics corridor linking the Red Sea to the Mediterranean. The discussions also included updates on the development and modernisation of major seaports, including Ras Sudr, Gargoub, Abu Qir, Greater Alexandria, New El-Mex, Ain Sokhna, Taba, and Damietta, recognising their central role in Egypt's national economic strategy. Progress on Cairo's fourth metro line and the high-speed electric rail network was also reviewed, as part of broader efforts to modernise Egypt's transport infrastructure and enhance connectivity across the country. The meeting further addressed plans to develop industrial zones in Upper Egypt, particularly in Wadi Al-Saririya and Al-Matahara in Minya, as well as northern Fayoum. These projects aim to stimulate industrial activity in underdeveloped regions and create employment opportunities, especially in labour-intensive sectors such as textiles and ready-made garments. President Al-Sisi stressed the importance of completing all projects according to schedule and directed continued work to establish integrated logistics corridors that seamlessly connect industrial zones to Egypt's upgraded ports. He underlined that these initiatives must be integrated with the country's modern network of roads, highways, and railways to strengthen Egypt's position as a global trade and logistics hub.
