Gautam Buddha Nagar, which includes the cities of Noida and Greater Noida, has become the richest and fastest-growing area in Uttar Pradesh. In fact, its income levels are now being compared to a developed country like Japan (when seen using purchasing power parity or PPP, which adjusts for cost of living differences).
As per a report by Times of India, the per person income (per capita income) in GB Nagar is Rs. 10.17 lakh, which is over 10 times the state's average. That's a huge gap. It even places this district in a different league altogether when compared globally.
In the financial year 2023–24, GB Nagar's GDP was Rs. 2.63 lakh crore which was more than 10 per cent of Uttar Pradesh's entire economy and nearly double the size of Lucknow's economy. It's also bigger than the whole economy of Himachal Pradesh. Per capita income of other cities with a global comparison GB Nagar: Rs. 10.17 lakh – Similar to Japan
Lucknow: Rs. 2.16 lakh – Close to India's national average
Ghaziabad: Rs. 2.11 lakh – Comparable to Morocco
Hamirpur: Rs. 1.46 lakh – Similar to Côte d'Ivoire
Sonbhadra: Rs. 1.44 lakh – Like Pakistan
Sadly, some districts in eastern UP like Pratapgarh, Jaunpur, and Ballia have very low per capita incomes which is close to those of poor countries such as Afghanistan or Mali when seen through the PPP lens.
While Gautam Buddha Nagar races ahead like a developed country, many other districts in UP are still struggling to catch up. Bottom 5 districts of Uttar Pradesh in form of GDP
Uttar Pradesh's economy shows a huge divide. Just the top 5 districts — Gautam Buddha Nagar, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Agra, and Kanpur — together produce over 25 per cent of the entire state's GDP. On the other hand, the bottom 5 districts contribute less than 2.5 per cent.
Even though Lucknow is the capital, it still lags far behind Gautam Buddha Nagar (GB Nagar) in income per person. GB Nagar's per capita income is five times higher than Lucknow's, and a shocking 23 times higher than Pratapgarh, which is the poorest district by this measure.
While GB Nagar is booming, districts like Shravasti, Chitrakoot, Sant Kabir Nagar, Auraiya, and Bhadohi are still struggling. These five districts together produce less GDP than Kanpur Nagar alone. For example, Shravasti's GDP is just Rs. 8,593 crore which is 30 times smaller than GB Nagar's economy. Why GB Nagar stands out
GB Nagar's rapid rise isn't random. It benefits from: Being close to Delhi
Well-planned infrastructure
Strong private investment
A growing industrial and IT sector
It has also become a centre for real estate, electronics, data centres, and logistics, all of which help boost local incomes and attract more business.

Indian stock markets end week lower amid trade deal concerns, profit booking

The Indian equity markets closed lower for the week as investors turned cautious ahead of the crucial July 9 US-India trade deadline and the start of the corporate earnings season, experts said on Saturday. Both benchmark indices -- the Sensex and the Nifty -- slipped 0.7 per cent each on a weekly basis, as broader market sentiment remained clouded by global uncertainty and profit booking after the recent rally. The Nifty ended the week at 25,461, while the Sensex closed at 83,432.89. The indices had started the week with a strong breakout, but the momentum faded amid concerns over a possible delay in finalising trade agreements. However, reports suggesting an interim deal between India and the US helped limit the downside in the latter half of the week. According to Ajit Mishra of Religare Broking Limited, the pullback was largely driven by investors booking profits following recent gains. 'The cautious tone was evident with the looming trade deadline. However, optimism around a potential agreement between India and the US acted as a cushion,' he noted. India's fiscal health remained strong, supported by a robust Rs 2.69 lakh crore dividend transfer from the RBI, which helped contain the fiscal deficit at just 0.8 per cent of the annual target. June GST collections also remained firm, rising 6.2 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 1.84 lakh crore. Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services, said, 'The week saw some consolidation after sharp gains in previous sessions. Global cues remained mixed, and investors preferred to stay on the sidelines ahead of the US tariff decision." 'FIIs turned cautious due to high valuations, but support from DIIs kept the market from falling sharply,' Nair mentioned. From a sectoral perspective, defensive sectors like IT and healthcare outperformed, supported by stock-specific action and stable demand. Meanwhile, rate-sensitive sectors such as banking, auto, and realty witnessed pressure from profit booking. FMCG stocks also edged lower. Defence stocks, however, saw strong buying after the government cleared several high-value contracts. Technically, the market entered a consolidation phase. Bajaj Broking Research noted that the Nifty has formed a small bear candle with a higher high and low on the weekly chart, signalling consolidation amid stock specific action after the recent strong upward move. 'Key support levels are seen around 25,150–25,200, coinciding with the 20-day exponential moving average, while resistance is expected near the 25,600–25,740 zone,' according to Angel One. 'A breakout above this range could trigger the next leg of the rally,' the brokerage added.

How each zodiac sign handles financial decisions

I explored how each zodiac sign approaches finances, visualizing their spending, saving, and investment tendencies. Each zodiac sign has a distinct approach to money and financial planning, shaped by its element, ruling planet, and natural temperament. Some signs love to take risks for high returns, while others prefer saving every rupee. Understanding how your sign handles finances can help you play to your strengths and avoid common money pitfalls. Aries is bold and quick with money decisions. They often spend on new experiences or gadgets without thinking long-term. While they're good at grabbing opportunities, they may need to slow down and plan better. Taurus is one of the most financially grounded signs. They value stability and are likely to invest in property, gold, or anything long-lasting. Their challenge is avoiding overindulgence in luxury or comfort purchases. Gemini is curious and impulsive with money. They might splurge on tech, books, or travel. While good at multitasking, they can struggle with consistency in savings or sticking to a budget. Cancer is a cautious planner. They focus on family security and long-term savings. Emotion may sometimes influence their spending, but they generally avoid financial risk. Leo enjoys luxury and isn't afraid to spend on quality. They like to look and feel successful, often spending on appearances. While generous, they benefit from better financial discipline. Virgo is a meticulous money manager. They plan, save, and keep detailed records. Sometimes, they may overthink financial risks and miss chances for growth. Libra seeks balance and might spend impulsively to maintain harmony or appearance. They do best with guidance in budgeting and investment. Scorpio is secretive but strategic with money. They often take calculated financial risks and aim for control and financial power. Sagittarius loves spending on experiences—travel, learning, and freedom. They may need help creating long-term plans and saving consistently. Capricorn is highly disciplined and long-term focused. They're patient investors and work hard for financial success. Aquarius is unconventional in money matters. They might invest in unique ideas or social causes. Practicality in spending is something they need to develop. Pisces can be generous and sometimes financially emotional. They benefit from structured savings plans to avoid impulsive or sentimental spending. Punjab: Mann govt to pass law against sacrilege in assembly session

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], July 5 (ANI): The Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government on Saturday decided to introduce and pass a law against sacrilege during a special session of the state legislative assembly scheduled for July 10 and 11. This move marks a major step toward fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people of Punjab for stricter laws to address sacrilege cases in the state. The announcement came from the state government, describing the upcoming assembly session as 'historic for Punjab.' Officials confirmed that the government will present a new legislation aimed at curbing acts of sacrilege and ensuring strict punishment for those involved in hurting religious sentiments. The official added that the Mann government will fulfil the demand of the people of Punjab. Meanwhile, Bhagwant Mann, along with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, on Tuesday announced the launch of the 'Fast Track Punjab Portal'. The portal aims to simplify the process of starting new businesses, setting up projects, and expanding industries in the state. Addressing a gathering in Mohali, Kejriwal said the initiative is unprecedented in India and reflects his government's distinct policy approach, which is different from the prevailing national politics. 'When Bhagwant Mann and I visited Punjab, we met traders and received their proposals. After listening and understanding their concerns, we made this decision. We want traders who left Punjab to return and work here. Our intent is clear, and that's why we are making this announcement. Our government's policy is entirely different from the current politics of the country,' Kejriwal said. He stressed the need for a business-friendly environment in which industrialists can focus 90 per cent of their time on business growth rather than running around government offices. Describing the portal as a historic step, Kejriwal said, 'No government in any state has made such announcements until today. Starting a new business, setting up a project, or expanding an industry in Punjab has now become extremely easy. Just apply on the Invest Punjab Portal, and all approvals will be granted within 45 days. For projects up to Rs. 125 crore, approvals will be given in just three days. No running around, no delays, no corruption. Punjab is ready for your industry's new journey.' (ANI)
