Contractors stop supplies to Gurukul hostels

Hans India13-08-2025
Karimnagar: The local contractors have stopped supplying grocery items to Gurukul schools in the district following the government's decision to engage corporate companies for the same across the State.
Local small contractors are expressing concern as the State government has invited tenders from corporate companies to supply essential commodities to welfare hostels. For the past 11 years, hundreds of families have been earning a living by supplying vegetables, fruits, chicken, mutton and eggs to Gurukul Schools through local farmers. About 15 contractors have been continuously supplying vegetables, fruits, chicken, mutton and eggs to the hostels in the joint Karimnagar district since the welfare hostels were opened.
Keeping in mind the children studying in the hostel whose bills have not been received on time, they are being supplied with essential food items.
Recently, conspiracies are being made to hand over tenders to corporate companies while ignoring them, and many vegetable farmers, supply workers and contractors are losing their jobs.
They have been supplying vegetables, fruits and meat on time, without any problems and without putting pressure on the government or on the bills they have to pay.
Concerns are being expressed across the state over this issue. The government has made changes to the tender process in an attempt to bring in a new policy and has made complaints to higher authorities about the situation where contractors who have been operating for years with the provision of paying EMD in lakhs are unable to pay EMD in lakhs.
There is a risk that the students in the welfare hostels will starve to death as the vegetables, fruits and meat supplied to the welfare hostels are being stopped and ready to hit the streets, recognizing the loss to the contractors, workers and farmers.
The parents of the students and social workers are requesting the government to consider their request to do justice immediately.
As part of this, they made a representation to the district Collector three days ago and since there was no response, they have stopped the supply of vegetables, fruits, chicken, mutton and eggs to welfare hostels across the state from Monday.
If this happens, there is a risk that the students staying in welfare hostels will not be able to eat and will end up on the streets. The contractors are demanding that justice be done to them immediately.
The State President of (TGPA), Telangana Gurukul Parents Association, Ambala Prabhakar told The Hans India that the government should immediately open its eyes and take steps to ensure that quality vegetables, fruits, eggs and meat are provided to the students studying in welfare Gurukuls, and the problems of the contractors supplying them should be resolved and the problem should not be escalated.

Teachers' union calls for statewide mahadharna in support of demands

Hyderabad: The Teachers' Union Struggle Committee (USPC) has announced a massive Mahadharna at Dharna Chowk, Hyderabad, on August 23, demanding urgent resolution of long-standing issues plaguing the education sector and teaching community. The announcement was made while addressing the media at the TSUTF office here on Monday, where USPC Steering Committee leaders released a wall poster highlighting their demands. USPC leaders expressed deep concern over the government's inaction, stating that even after 20 months since its formation, critical promises made in the election manifesto remain unfulfilled. They emphasized the need for immediate sanctioning of DEO posts for newly formed districts, Deputy EOs for each revenue division, and MEOs for new mandals. They also called for unified service rules for teachers and the swift filling of vacant posts. Among the key demands were the release of pending bills for teachers and pensioners, sanctioning of 5,571 PSHM posts in primary schools, and promotion opportunities for SGTs holding and qualifications. The leaders urged the cancellation of outdated GOs (2, 3, 9, 10) and implementation of GOs 11 and 12 for fair promotions following the upgradation of Pandit and PET posts. Additional demands included revising teacher adjustment guidelines, cancelling deputations across districts, updating the Gurukul timetable, and resolving issues faced by KGBV, model school, tribal welfare, and aided teachers. Despite repeated representations to the government and the formation of committees involving ministers and officials, USPC leaders lamented the lack of progress. As part of their phased agitation, memorandums were submitted to the Chief Minister via Mandal Tehsildars on July 23–25, followed by district-level dharnas on August 5. However, no response has been received, prompting the decision to escalate the movement. The Mahadharna aims to draw attention to the urgency of these issues and press the government to take immediate action. Leaders, including Chava Ravi, A Venkat (TSUTF), N Tirupati (TPTF), M Somaiya, T Lingareddy (DTF), Kommu Ramesh (BTF), S Harikishan (TTA), Y Vijayakumar (SCSTUS), P Manik Reddy, and A Simhachalam, participated in the program and called for solidarity among educators across the state.

India strive for welfare of all, now establishing its rightful place on global stage: Bhagwat

Jaipur, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday said India has always strived for the welfare of all and is now establishing its rightful place on the global stage. India strive for welfare of all, now establishing its rightful place on global stage: Bhagwat Addressing an event in Sikar on the first death anniversary of Swami Raghavacharya Vedanti Maharaj, the former Peethadheeshwar of Revasa Peeth, Bhagwat said that there were apprehensions in various quarters post-Independence that democracy would not last in India. "Not only did democracy survive, but people defended it during times of crisis. Today, India is ahead of many nations in democratic practices," he said at the programme held at Shri Jankinath Bada Mandir in Revasa Dham. Talking about India's civilizational journey, Bhagwat said the country's traditions have continued through many ups and downs since ancient times. "We have seen prosperity and poverty, freedom and subjugation. Yet the mission has continued. Whenever the world has needed it most, India has risen." "India is a nation that has always strived for the welfare of the world and is now establishing its rightful place globally," he said. Bhagwat also said that truth is one, though it appears in many forms. "Mithya lasts only for a time; eventually, everything merges into the one truth. We have the key to unite with the universe. This key, given by our sages, is for the welfare of all humanity," the RSS chief said. Bhagwat said that an individual is enough to share this with the entire world. "For this, an entire nation must adopt truth as its life's mission and live by it. It is with this purpose that the sages, through their penance, created this nation," he said. Speaking about Swami Raghavacharya, he said his association with the peethadheeshwar of Revasa Peeth began after becoming the RSS chief. "In our first meeting, I was struck by his affection for all and his deep sense of connectedness. I once visited the Revasa Dham during his lifetime, and he introduced me to the Gurukul students. His warmth and commitment to society were deeply visible," Bhagwat said. On the occasion, the RSS chief unveiled a statue of Swami Raghavacharya and inaugurated a newly constructed Gurukul Bhavan.
