Results, points after Iowa as William Byron earns fuel-mileage victory
It's the 15th career victory across 11 Cup tracks for Byron, who opened the season with his second consecutive Daytona 500 win. The Hendrick Motorsports star became the fifth driver with multiple victories this season, joining Denny Hamlin (four), Kyle Larson (three), Christopher Bell (three) and Shane van Gisbergen (three).
It's the fourth consecutive season with mulitple victories for Byron, 27. He made his final pit stop on Lap 206 of 350 and benefited when 50 of the final 144 laps were run under yellow.

Byron also has won in all three NASCAR national series at the 0.875-mile oval in Newton, Iowa.
Chase Briscoe finished second, followed by Brad Keselowski, Ryan Blaney and Ryan Preece.

Read the full story on The Auto Wire If you're planning on grabbing a 2026 Mustang Dark Horse Premium from a Ford dealer, be prepared for the $69,075 MSRP. While some might think that's a reasonable price to pay for a 500-horsepower muscle car, others will choke because the price is squarely in luxury car very much doubt Ford CEO Jim Farley thinks this is a problem. After all, the guy famously said back in May, 'We see customers doing what they can to afford a new vehicle. I mean, we've seen 84-month financing increases as a share of our offers on the financing side. Natural levels are well within the bounds of the industry, but customers are doing what they need to to adjust for their payments.' With Ford releasing pricing for the 2026 Mustang model lineup, it's just another reminder that inflation has helped make new cars unbearably expensive. And for those who haven't been paying attention since 2020, the sticker shock as they decide to go car shopping is very much real. After all, the base model Mustang EcoBoost Fastback, which mind you has the turbocharged four-cylinder engine and so isn't a real muscle car, starts at $32,320 for 2026. Ford upped the MSRP by $400 versus the already lofty price for 2025. Keep in mind the 2015 Ford Mustang V6 started at $23,800. In just a decade, the price for the base Mustang has ballooned about $9,000. But if you want a real Mustang and not something that sounds like a Honda Civic, the 2026 Mustang GT Fastback has the lofty MSRP of $46,885, an increase over its already high MSRP from last model year. Back during the covid shutdowns and shortages, automakers justified hiking prices because of the adverse market conditions. Also, people for some weird reason were fighting to buy new cars, paying over MSRP. Supposedly, once we were clear of the mess created by covid government policies, prices were going to be lowered. But they haven't been. Instead, they've increased since. And so once affordable vehicles have become inaccessible to a large swath of the US population. Taiwan vehicle sales drop 22% in July
Taiwan's new vehicle market continued to drop sharply in July 2025, declining by over 22% to 35,483 units from 45,678 units in the same month last year, according to registration data compiled by Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation. Vehicle demand in the country has weakened significantly in recent months, following two years of strong sales growth, despite a pick-up in economic activity in the country. Economic growth in the country continued to accelerate in the second quarter of 2025, reaching 8% year-on-year, up from 5.5% in the first quarter, driven mainly by surging exports. Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) amounted to 14,175 units in this period, led by Tesla with 6,022 units, followed by local automaker Luxgen with 2,154 units, BMW 2,148 units, and Mercedes with 1,293 units. The performances of the individual brands varied significantly year-to-date, with market leader Toyota reporting a 1% decline to 72,369 units; followed by its Lexus division with a 4% decline to 17,814 units; CMC 15,298 (+25%); Mercedes-Benz 14,738 (-12%); Honda 11,551 (-29%); Hyundai 10,877 (-24%); BMW 10,398 (-14%); and Mitsubishi 7,722 (-22%). Sho Tsuboi's Haas F1 test is an 'audition', says Toyota
Toyota has dismissed the notion that Sho Tsuboi's maiden Formula 1 test opportunity with Haas at Fuji Speedway is a 'reward' for his title success in Super Formula. The Japanese marque's director of global motorsport Masaya Kaji characterised the TPC test, which will take place on 6-7 August with the two-year-old Haas VF-23, as an 'audition' that will be used to gauge Tsuboi's future potential. Tsuboi will be in action on the second day of the test at Toyota's home circuit, while Haas reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa will take the wheel on the opening day. 'What comes next totally depends on Tsuboi's performance and on his communication with the team,' Kaji told 'This is a kind of audition, or selection. It's not just for his experience. We would like to assess his real level of performance. 'He must make a big effort especially to communicate in English. But the main target is to understand his potential. 'Currently his performance is the best among the Japanese drivers, so it's quite interesting for us, also for the other drivers in Japan and motorsport fans.' Ryo Hirakawa, Haas F1 Kaji described ex-Super Formula racer Hirakawa, who has made two FP1 outings for Haas so far this year and another for Alpine, as a 'good benchmark' for Tsuboi. He did however concede that differing conditions between the two days would make direct comparisons in terms of lap times during the test difficult. Tsuboi becomes the latest Toyota-affiliated driver to get behind the wheel of the VF-23 in Haas's newly-established TPC programme this year following Ritomo Miyata, his predecessor as Super Formula champion, and Kamui Kobayashi. Formula 2 racer Miyata sampled the Haas at Jerez in January, while ex-Sauber and Caterham F1 driver Kobayashi drove the VF-23 in June at Paul Ricard in a run aimed at enabling him to better coach Toyota's stable of youngsters in future. Kaji wouldn't be drawn on who could be next in line for an F1 test from Toyota's domestic roster, but stressed that results in Super Formula will not be the decisive factor. 'To be honest, we don't have any clear boundaries,' Kaji continued. 'Tsuboi has very good potential, so it's not only about his results. The test is not a reward for becoming Super Formula champion. Ritomo Miyata, VANTELIN TEAM TOM'S 'We will not have the same situation for other drivers [in future] who become champion. It is purely based on performance.' Following his run for Haas in January, Miyata has also driven in TPC tests for Alpine, firstly at Zandvoort and then at Monza. Those opportunities came despite Miyata struggling for performance in his second season of F2 with ART Grand Prix, although he achieved a season-best result of second in wet conditions at Spa, having qualified in the same position. 'At the moment, we want to give him as much experience as we can," said Kaji of Miyata. "It's important to give him the environment where he can focus on driving, regardless of the team or the car.'
