Surveillance video captures woman accused of drowning dog at airport, police say

A new report is providing disturbing new details in the case of a woman accused of killing her miniature Schnauzer at Orlando International Airport, then discarding the dog's body in the trash.
Channel 9 first broke the story Wednesday after 57-year-old Alison Agatha Lawrence posted a $5,000 bond on an Aggravated Animal Abuse charge.
According to Orlando Police, cleaning staff found Tywinn, a 9-year-old miniature schnauzer, after he was killed in the airport bathroom.
An arrest report says cleaning staff noticed lots of water in a handicap stall then made the gruesome discovery.
According to Police, the dog's owner, Alison Lawrence, was supposed to get on a flight to Colombia, but didn't have the proper paperwork to board her dog, and then took 'extreme and tragic action,' by drowning him in the bathroom.
The arrest report details surveillance video from Orlando International Airport showing Lawrence speaking with an agent at the Latam ticket counter for about 15 minutes.
Police say the surveillance video shows Lawrence leaving the counter and heading to the bathroom with Tywinn, then leaving the bathroom without him.
According to the report, investigators found the dog's tag and discovered he was micro-chipped, which they were able to trace back to Lawrence.
It's just some of the evidence Criminal Defense Attorney Jose Rivas says will make the crime difficult to refute…
'This is a perfect example where law enforcement has done an excellent job. But at the same token, it's at the airport. There are cameras everywhere,' said Rivas.
According to the statute Lawrence could face up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted on the charge.
Still Rivas says it's possible Lawrence never sees jail time on since he says the crime, a level 6 felony.
'There is no mandatory jail or prison sentence. So technically she could get probation. She can get community control,' said Rivas.

Seminole County Deputy suspended after gun scare near Milwee Middle School

A Seminole County Deputy has been suspended, accused of failing to do her job when she was alerted about a kid with a gun near a middle school campus. Channel 9 obtained a copy of an investigative report that details what happened, it stems from an incident in February. According to the report, Deputy Brianna Mattingly had been working as a school resource officer at Milwee Middle School. According to the report on February 26, a paraprofessional at the school told Mattingly that she saw a former student near campus with a gun. Investigators found Mattingly was careless in how she handled the incident. According to the report, from the time the paraprofessional told the deputy about the possible gun on campus to when she got out of her car and took any action to assess the situation, more than 8 minutes passed. Administrators said Mattingly was lackadaisical and failed to act with urgency. 'Despite having been informed of a potential threat in the immediate vicinity of the school, you failed to act on the reported information immediately… You failed to handle that threat appropriately,' reads the report. While the reported weapon turned out to be a pellet gun, investigators said the deputy didn't know it at the time and she didn't do her job by immediately going after the weapon. According to the documents, Mattingly apologized and took responsibility for the incident. She was suspended without pay for 42.5 hours, placed on a Performance Improvement Plan, and transferred from the Department of School Safety to the Judicial Services Division. Union County family escapes house fire; community rallies to help rebuild

A Union County family is safe but lost everything in a house fire investigators say started with an air compressor and now, neighbors are stepping in to support them as they start over. ALSO READ: Union County family's home catches fire months after kids hit by truck Channel 9's Erika Jackson spoke with the family as they get support from neighbors along Haden Drive off New Town Road near Waxhaw. The Union County Fire Marshal ruled it an accident. Investigators believe an air compressor was plugged into one car, pumping air into a tire on a pickup truck, which started the fire. Everything the Robinsons own is gone. 'Material things can be replaced but someone's life can't,' said Veronica Robinson. Robinson sees beyond the damage. 'All I can think about is my mom,' she said. 'All I can think about is her. What if I lost her?' Robinson said she was in her bathroom Monday morning when she heard a visiting family member banging on the door. 'I saw that the flames were starting to jump onto the house,' Robinson said. 'And when I [had] seen that, I immediately ran back in the house, ran to that room right there, and got my mom out.' Robinson said her daughter-in-law helped her oxygen-dependent father escape. He's recovering in a hospital as her family works to figure out what's next. 'I'd be completely lost if it wasn't for the community coming together and just helping any way they can anyway,' Robinson said. She credits her neighbor, Kristen Marcum, for calling 911 and coordinating donations through a GoFundMe account. Robinson said she was reminded of what she does have. 'This has really taught me what paying it forward means and just taught me to slow down and smell the roses,' she said. The Red Cross is helping them with temporary housing. She's waiting for her renters and car insurance to come through. GoFundMe for the Robinsons VIDEO: Dilworth fire that led to explosion set intentionally
