Man caught with a quarter of a million pounds of coke in Glasgow home

Glasgow Times16-07-2025
John Sneddon, 30, held the drugs at the property in Glasgow's Castlemilk on July 14 2023.
The High Court in Glasgow was told that Sneddon was spotted going into a van driven by former co-accused Graeme Martin.
Sneddon was seen to exit the vehicle with a plastic bag and head into his home.
Police later attended the property and found it difficult to gain access due to the design of the front door.
Meantime, Sneddon was spotted outside trying to leave the scene.

Prosecutor Lindsey Dalziel said: "Nearby, there was a package which contained white powder which was analysed and found to have 56% purity."
Entry was eventually gained to Sneddon's home where further packages were found.
One of the packages were marked at "Tesla" which is believed to signify "better quality" or the mark of the seller's identification.
Miss Dalziel said: "The total of cocaine recovered was 3,043 grams with a potential value of £243,476 if subdivided."
Sneddon pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine.
Co-accused Martin, 37, of East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, had his not guilty plea accepted.
It was revealed that the dad-of-two has previous convictions for road traffic and drug possession matters.
Kevin Jarvis, defending, told the court that his client was in debt as a result of a previous drug habit.
The advocate said: "He had possession of a relatively short time on that day.
"He agreed to take the drugs and divide them before they were uplifted by another person."
Sentence was deferred until next month pending background reports by Judge Lord Colbeck who remanded Sneddon in custody meantime.

Man in terror probe said he would 'make 9/11 look like episode of Teletubbies'

A man held during a terror investigation claimed he would make the 9/11 attacks 'look like an episode of the Teletubbies'. Curtis Ross had a fascination with 'Unabomber' Ted Kaczynski – the lone wolf terrorist who killed three Americans and injured several others over nearly 20 years. The 24-year-old had been arrested after posting online a clip of him blowing up two gas canisters near the River Leven in Methil, Fife. Ross' home was raided, and police discovered a drawing marked 'Project Payback'. A phone and tablet device were also examined, which included the voice message about the 2001 Twin Towers atrocity and him discussing with others 'murdering all the people who wronged you'. Ross appeared at the High Court in Glasgow. He pleaded guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner, which included sending concerning messages and voice notes on Snapchat and Facebook, causing an explosion, filming it and putting the footage on social media between June 25 and July 31, 2024. He had a not guilty plea to a charge under the Terrorism Act accepted. Ross was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date. A Facebook friend of Ross spotted the explosion video in late July 2024. He showed it to a young woman who was so 'alarmed' that she contacted the police. Ross was held that day after being spotted in Methil. Detectives – along with Counter Terrorism officers – searched his home in the town. They found the 'Project Payback' drawing along with a sketch of what was described as a 'homemade explosive device'. Various items, including a roll of wire, mobile phone batteries, nails, screws, and a watch, were inside a desk. Initial fears about a package in the property led to homes in the area being evacuated, but it did not contain an explosive. Prosecutor Greg Farrell said Ross 'laughed' when first quizzed about what he had filmed, claiming it was an 'attempt at satire comedy'. But, he confirmed that he had blown up two butane gas canisters and had posted it on his Facebook page under the name of a Batman comic villain. Mr Farrell: 'He made reference to social media corrupting his decisions.' Ross was asked about his interest in Kaczynski – captured in 1996 – and said he was 'apparently some kind of mail bomber' that he had learned more about by going down a 'rabbit hole' online. Ross went on to insist that he himself was 'not a terrorist' as he had 'made peace with everything in his life'. But, police found a series of concerning messages during checks of his phone and black tablet. In late June 2024, he wrote to 15 users on Facebook Messenger: 'Here guys, I am just here to inform you that the only thing stopping you from murdering all of the people who wronged you is just a box. 'That is only if you cannot do it correctly and make sure enough evidence is gone so that the charges do not stick.' He referred to 'instructions on how to make a pipe bomb' adding: 'Hope this comes in handy for you one day x'. In messages on the day of the River Leven explosion, a social media contact called Ross 'a human'. Mr Farrell then told the court of a Snapchat conversation with a friend shortly before. Ross stated at one stage: 'I am going to make 9/11 look like an episode of the Teletubbies, f*** sake.' He then backtracked again, claiming it was 'satire comedy' and that he was 'only joking'. During further rants, Ross said he had been let down by the 'justice system', moaning he had been treated differently because he is a man. In messages to another contact, he said: 'I have realised that I simply cannot allow what is happening to humanity and our world to continue. 'I can and will have an impact on preventing the worst from happening xx.' The court heard there were also photos, videos and sketches of the 'Unabomber' on the devices as well as images of a pipe bomb and firearms together with 'various other clips which suggest violence'. Lord Colbeck deferred sentencing for reports. Get all the latest news from around the country Follow STV News Scan the QR code on your mobile device for all the latest news from around the country

Police officers detained after son smacked win appeal over arrests

Two married police officers who were arrested after one of them smacked their teenage son have won a High Court battle over claims they were unlawfully officers, who both serve with the Metropolitan Police, were arrested by Surrey Police in March 2019 after the wife gave her son what she described as a "light smack on the left cheek" after he sued Surrey Police after being told they would face no further action, claiming their detention was unlawful as it was couple, who have three children, had their claims dismissed following a trial last year and appealed against the decision at the High Court earlier this month. In a ruling on Monday, Mr Justice Bourne overturned the said: "In my judgment, on a proper analysis of the evidence at trial, the police did not show that there was an objective basis for the belief that it was necessary to arrest either claimant."The judge said in a 30-page ruling that at the time of the incident, the couple's son, referred to as ABD, had "an unfortunate history of challenging behaviour" and had begun attending a youth centre to access mental health couple cancelled ABD's birthday party in March 2019 after he misbehaved, causing him to go to his room, where he "kicked things around".This led his mother to smack her son while his father was asleep, which she said "was not hard and did not cause any injury or leave any mark". ABD attended a youth centre the following day and told staff that he had been assaulted by his mother and that his father had done nothing to stop offering to be interviewed voluntarily, both parents were arrested and detained for more than seven returned to the family home the following day, with police deeming that the children were not at risk of harm and telling the couple that they would face no further action three days after their arrest. In his ruling, Mr Justice Bourne said he was "unable to agree" with the trial judge's finding that there was a "rational basis" for officers to conclude that voluntary interviews were not an said: "In the present case, no reason has been identified which actually explains why voluntary interviews were not a viable alternative."It follows that the arrests were unlawful and the claims should have succeeded." Elon Musk joins outrage over man and woman being beaten to a pulp after Cincinnati jazz festival

Elon Musk joined the outpouring of outrage after a man and woman were beaten to a pulp by an unruly mob after an Ohio jazz festival. The victims were brutally attacked Friday night in downtown Cincinnati after being swarmed by the violent crowd, video of the horrific attack showed. A man in a white t-shirt is apparently shoved to ground by two men and repeatedly beaten as other members of the crowd jeer and join in. The gang batters the man for nearly a minute as he lay in the middle of the street, seemingly stepping on his head multiple times. When the barrage of attacks temporarily stops, he is seen attempting to stand - but immediately fell over in apparent disorientation. One attacker yelled out 'my man's drunk'. A woman in a black dress rushes to his aid, but is attacked by the crowd, suffering two blows to the face. The impact caused her to fall, with her head slamming the pavement. She became unconscious as blood spewed from her mouth. Musk, apparently frustrated by the heinous act of violence, took to his social media platform X to question what he suggested was a lack of response to the incident. 'Why zero stories?' the Tesla CEO asked Sunday, retweeting a post from the End Wokeness X account alleging that the attack wasn't being covered by America's major news outlets. Elon Musk is sounding alarms of outrage after a man and woman were beaten to the pulp by an unruly mob at an Ohio jazz festival End Wokeness posted a tweet early Sunday afternoon claiming CNN, ABC, NBC, Fox News, The New York Times and The Washington Post, among others, had failed to cover the attack. By late Sunday evening the terrifying assault had been covered by several local and national media outlets, including the Daily Mail and Fox News. Musk reshared the tweet Sunday evening, prompting a wave of criticisms from other X users who also alleged the story was being ignored because it 'doesn't fit the woke narrative'. 'The funded media knows it doesn't match the typical narrative,' one X user replied. 'Thank you Elon for shining our light on the legacy media's bias,' echoed another. Another added: 'I'm asking the same question. I think we all know the answer.' 'It doesn't fit the narrative Elon,' one wrote. Many X users attributed the alleged lack of coverage to racial bias by the media outlets, although there is no actual evidence to support these claims. Some users suggested that maybe there 'weren't enough reporters' working over the weekend to cover the story. Others simply raised concern for the victims. 'It really is concerning. This should be on every news story for weeks. These poor people,' one wrote. 'So scary,' echoed another. Musk reshared the tweet Sunday evening, prompting a wave of criticisms from other X users who also alleged the story was being ignored because it 'doesn't fit the woke narrative' The Friday night assault at the intersection of Fourth and Elm Streets started with a verbal dispute between at least two men, according to police. The carnage left at least two people, the unidentified male and female victim, injured. A good Samaritan rushed them to a local hospital in the aftermath, WKRC reported. Their conditions remain unclear as cops work to identify and arrest all of those involved. Video obtained by WKRC appears to show the moments leading up to the attack. The man in the white t-shirt appears to be talking with the group, when he suddenly slaps a man in a red t-shirt. It also shows another man being targeted by the unruly mob. Investigators have already identified four to five suspects believed to have participated in the 'savage attack', police union president Ken Kober told The Cincinnati Enquirer. He said officers are continuing investigate tips as they try to identify the remaining suspects. Police have not yet announced any arrests in connection to the fight, but Kober insists officials are 'doing everything they can'. 'These investigators have been working around the clock to identify everybody that's involved, to be able to locate these people, to be able to interview them, to be able to get a true picture of exactly what occurred,' he told WKRC. Investigators have also received tips on some of the attackers' identities, Kober said. 'I would ask... that the public play a part in this, because stuff like this shouldn't happen in our city, but when it does, we need people to step forward, that way we can bring these people to justice.' Kober argued there is 'no place in society' for the violence displayed Friday night and, in separate remarks to WLWT, called the brawl 'disgusting'. 'What's equally disgusting is those who chose to watch and record instead of calling 911, attempting to defuse the situation or render aid.' The central business district and riverfront area where the assault took place has seen a 25 percent increase in violence compared to last year, according to Cincinnati police data published July 21. The data also shows that there were 12 aggravated assaults in the city between January 1 through July 21, compared to 16 during the same time period last year. 'I am in complete disgust waking up to the viral video many of you have now seen,' Cincinnati police Chief Teresa Theetge said on Saturday, after mayoral candidate and Vice President JD Vance's half brother reposted the video - arguing that the current administration is not doing enough to address crime in the city. 'The behavior is nothing short of cruel and absolutely unacceptable,' she continued, vowing that investigators will work 'diligently to identify every individual involved in causing harm.'
