Horse racing tips: ‘William Haggas has a future star on his hands' – Templegate's 2-1 NAP looks very promising

The Irish Sun22-05-2025

TEMPLEGATE takes on a very interesting Friday of racing looking for some winners.
Back a horse by clicking their odds below.
SANTORINI STAR (3.15 Goodwood, nap)
Is improving with age and experience, and looked one to follow this summer when hitting the line hard at Brighton last month. It will be interesting to see how high she can climb but a step up in trip will bring out the best in her. She could be a black type performer at the end of the year and if that proves true then William Haggas' improving filly should be very competitive off a mark of 89.
FORT GEORGE (4.55 Goodwood, nb)
Is another who looks ahead of the handicapper after his Newmarket win earlier in the month. He likes to be held up and there is no better waiting rider than Jamie Spencer to deliver a winning late run.
UNEQUAL LOVE (3.00 Haydock, treble)
Sets a decent standard in the listed feature. She will be sharper for her return and looks hard to beat at a track she loves.

Horse racing tips: ‘She's bred to be speedy and is drawn well' – Templegate's NAP a winner-in-waiting

TEMPLEGATE tackles Wednesday's action confident of building the bank for Royal Ascot. Back a horse by clicking their odds below. WATEEN (4.00 Lingfield, nap) This sharp filly improved markedly to finish second at Doncaster last time, posting a strong speed figure in the process. She's bred to be speedy, is drawn well, and has more to offer in a race where most of her rivals lack experience. MAKES ME WONDER (2.45 Yarmouth, nb) She showed her liking for this track when scoring here over seven furlongs in April. The form of that contest has worked out very nicely and anything like that performance would be good enough. BANKSMAN (5.15 Yarmouth, treble) He has his sights lowered slightly here after going down in a photo at Brighton last time out. He is drawn to attack and this looks a cracking chance to get off the mark for in-form trainer Jack Channon. SAWGRASS (3.30 Lingfield, Lucky 15) Has been knocking on the door and looked in need of this longer trip when third at Beverley last time. She can score off this mark. Pulled muscle rules Economics out of Royal Ascot

The William Haggas-trained Economics will miss his intended seasonal comeback in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot after meeting with a setback. The 2024 Irish Champion Stakes winner, who was last seen in action finishing sixth behind Anmaat in the British version of the race at Ascot in October, was a general 5-1 second favourite for next Wednesday's Group One contest. Haggas confirmed the unfortunate news, telling the Racing Post: "Economics had an awayday at Newbury, where he worked nicely and the most important thing was his scope was clean after the work. "We were happy with him but we found he had pulled a muscle afterwards, so we've had to back off him since and I'm afraid we've run out of time for Ascot." Economics does hold an entry in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on 5 July, but his participation for that contest has to be in doubt.

Horse racing tips: ‘His class makes him very hard to beat' – Templegate's NAP loves this trip

TEMPLEGATE'S Sunday tips are below. Back a horse by clicking their odds. Advertisement HAMISH (4.45 Goodwood, nap) Is still going strong for William Haggas. This nine-year-old was as good as ever last season with a Coronation Cup second at Epsom before finishing the campaign with a big-field Listed win at The Curragh. We know he loves this trip with a little cut in the field and his class makes him very hard to beat. SCHMILSSON (3.22 Perth, nb) Looked a natural when winning on his chasing debut over course and distance last month. He made mincemeat of his rivals and a 7lb rise in the weights should hold no fears. Trainer Olly Murphy is in flying form and he can add to his winning tally with Sean Bowen up. Advertisement MISS TONNERRE (3.35 Goodwood, treble) Was behind Oaks second Whirl in the Musidora last time when very much needing the run. The form of her Fred Darling fourth has been franked and she can show more here. IMPERIAL ALEX (4.32 Perth) Looks good for the Lucky 15 after a close second at Uttoxeter last time. He sees out three miles well.
