As the Glacier Drop Rolls Out, Should You Buy the Cardano Crypto Here?

Yahoo2 days ago
Cardano (ADAUSD) dis one of the projects altcoin investors swore by during the 2021 altseason. Cardano is similar to many flagship layer-1 smart contract blockchains like Ethereum (ETHUSD). This means that smart contracts can run on Cardano's blockchain, and they'll use ADA for gas fees. It is a proof-of-stake project.
It got the title of being the 'Ethereum Killer,' supposedly destined to dethrone the Ethereum ecosystem as the leading alternative blockchain. Unfortunately, that never ended up materializing.

The crypto has underperformed since late 2021, with newer projects getting more attention. However, recent performance has been unusually good.
ADA is up 22.3% in the past month and 19.6% in just the past five days alone. This is comparable to the performance of BNB (BNBUSD). Crypto investors now see a solid altseason brewing with Ethereum's breakout accelerating, so it only makes sense to start contemplating buying ADA as well.
The Glacier Drop
The Glacier Drop is attracting lots of attention to ADA at the moment. It is a token distribution event tied to the Midnight Network. This is a sidechain built on the Cardano chain, which will allow private transactions.
Most token distributions are usually contained within one ecosystem. This one involves eight blockchains: Cardano, Bitcoin (BTCUSD), Ethereum, Solana (SOLUSD), BNB Chain, Avalanche (AVAXUSD), XRP (XRPUSD), and Brave Attention Token. Eligible wallets are those that have had at least $100 worth of native tokens based on a snapshot taken on June 11, 2025.
Cardano holders get 50% of it, whereas the remaining is split between other chains.
Upgrades Are Translating Into Momentum for ADA
Cardano has been showing signs of making a turnaround recently due to the network pushing forward with technical upgrades. In early August, the community approved a $71 million treasury allocation (about 96 million ADA) for core development by Input Output Global. This gives funding for 12 months of upgrades.
This is the first time the community has directly funded ecosystem upgrades. These upgrades will make Cardano much cheaper and faster if implemented. The Hydra Scaling Solution is a layer-2 protocol that has shown it can handle up to 1 million transactions per second.
On top of that, the Ouroboros Leios and Peras consensus mechanism upgrades will lead to much faster speeds through parallel processing and reduce transaction finality from 12 hours to 2 minutes.
There are also other minor upgrades for developers and validators. All of these upgrades will make Cardano a much hotter ecosystem to build and develop on. In the future, Bitcoin users may be able to interact with Cardano's DeFi ecosystem.
Is Cardano Gearing Up for a Breakout?
These potential upgrades are great and would have made ADA one of the most surefire bets four years ago. In 2025, those numbers are not too impressive vs. chains like Solana or even Ethereum.
Cardano retains plenty of name recognition, and this is mainly why I believe ADA is still poised to do well this cycle.
If it can break through resistance at $0.88 and $0.91, the next leg up should lead it to $0.97.
If such a move happens in conjunction with altseason kicking in, ADA should easily break through $1. My base, moderate, and bull cases are as follows:
For ADA to break its previous all-time high of $3.10 and make a move beyond that, it would require an exceptionally strong altseason. If these upgrades kick in earlier than expected and coincide with new major catalysts, the stars may align.

Should You Buy XRP While It's Less Than $4?

Key Points Healthy investor demand for cryptocurrencies has XRP pushing toward its all-time high. Potential spot XRP ETFs are yet another catalyst on the way. However, XRP is likely to remain a risky investment. 10 stocks we like better than XRP › Cryptocurrency investors are enjoying a huge bull market right now. Ironically, it's not Bitcoin stealing the show (though the flagship crypto's price has doubled during the past year), but XRP (CRYPTO: XRP), which has seen its price rise by almost 500%. XRP is now more than $3.25 per share (as of Aug. 12), leaving investors wondering whether the token is ready to surpass $4 for the first time. The Trump administration's pro-crypto stance and policies have been game-changers for XRP and the broader sector, and XRP specifically has another exciting catalyst on the horizon. Here is what you need to know, and whether XRP is a buy for less than $4. XRP and other cryptocurrencies have a lot of momentum right now There are many positive developments in the cryptocurrency landscape. Donald Trump campaigned on supporting cryptocurrencies, and his administration has largely followed through since assuming office in January. Trump announced an executive order to establish a better regulatory framework for the crypto industry, as well as strategic reserves for Bitcoin and other digital assets. XRP's developer, Ripple, had been engaged in a lawsuit with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) since late 2020 over the company's sale of XRP tokens to exchanges and institutional investors. A judge issued a mixed ruling in the summer of 2023, but the two sides had appealed and cross-appealed the verdict. Both parties have moved to drop their appeals, ending the litigation. Ripple developed the XRP ledger for cross-border transactions. XRP is the native token for the XRP ledger. With the litigation overhang dissipating, it's more likely that companies, governments, and other institutions, for which Ripple developed XRP and the XRP Ledger, may embrace them for their intended purpose. Trump also just signed an executive order to open up U.S. 401(k) retirement plans to alternative assets, which would include cryptocurrencies. This likely won't have an immediate effect on demand. Still, it underscores cryptocurrency's progress into the mainstream investing scene, and may increase buying activity in XRP and broader digital assets over the long term. A new catalyst on the horizon for XRP Cryptocurrency prices rely on buyer demand, since they have little or no underlying tangible value. The two largest cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and Ethereum, have spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that accumulate the coins. For instance, the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF holds more than 180,000 bitcoins alone, so you can see how these institutional funds can have a lot of buying power. Perhaps it's only natural, since XRP is the third-largest cryptocurrency, but multiple institutions have filed applications to launch spot ETFs that hold XRP. There are at least nine applications filed with the SEC to launch spot XRP ETFs, and that doesn't include some of the financial sector's most prominent players, like BlackRock. The SEC could issue a decision on some of these ETFs as early as this fall. Should investors buy while XRP is less than $4? I can see why XRP's price has risen so much lately. The litigation was a storm cloud over XRP that arguably helped prevent it from surpassing its previous highs from years ago. Meanwhile, Bitcoin has continued to surge to new heights amid growing interest in cryptocurrencies. With all these positive developments, XRP has made up a bit of ground over the past year. But as I've written previously, XRP is still a very small player in cross-border transactions, and its long-term future remains highly speculative. Even if XRP's price does breach $4, it, like other cryptocurrencies, has historically been a rollercoaster and may not sustain those highs. There is nothing wrong with having some exposure to XRP, because it does have a path to increased usage and value over the coming years. As always, approach cryptocurrencies with a lot of caution, and avoid letting them represent too much of your total investments. Should you buy stock in XRP right now? Google hustles to clarify ‘terrible' Play Store crypto wallet update after community backlash

'Terrible.' That was X co-founder and Block CEO Jack Dorsey's one-word judgement of news stories that suggested that Google had banned non-custodial crypto wallets in its Play Store. He was not alone. Crypto Twitter exploded in an uproar against a new Google policy update on Wednesday. The update made no distinction between wallet types and thus left developers scrambling to interpret whether new licensing demands applied even to open-source apps that don't hold user funds. Some, like wallet provider BlueWallet, publicly questioned whether the rules were legally accurate, pointing out that self-custody software doesn't require a license under current US law. Mountain View saw the pushback and hustled to clarify that non-custodial wallets were 'not in scope' of the policy and said it would update its Help Center to make this clear. As of Thursday morning, the policy now includes the line: 'Non-custodial wallets are out of scope of the Cryptocurrency Exchanges and Software Wallets policy.' So, no ban. Still, the trepidation about the $2.4 trillion tech titan's update is understandable. Especially as it was presented as an effort to meet local compliance standards and initially omitted any mention of exemptions for non-custodial wallets. While FinCEN guidance generally exempts non-custodial wallets and tools from money-transmitter rules, recent court cases against the likes of Samourai Wallet and Tornado Cash show that prosecutors may still pursue charges against crypto projects. The update also introduced additional licensing requirements for crypto wallets and exchange apps in 15 jurisdictions, including the US, EU, and UK. In the US, it said developers were required to register as a Money Services Business with FinCEN and also obtain a state money transmitter license, or operate as a chartered bank. In the EU, the policy states developers must be authorised under the Markets in Crypto-Assets framework as Crypto-Asset Service Providers, a designation typically applied to exchanges and custodians. VW Group Singapore and FOMO Pay add customer digital currency capabilities

Volkswagen Group Singapore (VGS) has announced a partnership with a leading Singapore-headquartered major payment institution, FOMO Pay, to enable digital currency payments for its vehicles and services. VW customers in Singapore can now pay using digital assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and stablecoins including USDT, USDC, and more. The move by VGS is in response to the growing adoption of digital currencies among consumers in Singapore, with recent data showing that 26% of residents now own digital assets. As consumers increasingly seek faster and more cost-effective payment methods, digital currencies are gaining traction not only for their speed and enhanced security, but also global interoperability and lower transaction costs. DPT transactions per customer are subject to a daily cap of SGD 4,500, with a maximum of SGD 13,500 based on smurfing limits. "An increasing number of consumers today are digital natives. They expect speed and convenience across all touchpoints, including how they pay," said Dr. Kurt Leitner, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Singapore. "Our partnership with FOMO Pay aligns with our broader vision of delivering premium experiences powered by technology and innovation." FOMO Pay fuels digital currency payment acceptance With FOMO Pay's digital asset payment infrastructure, VGS now supports digital currency payments for partial payments on new vehicle purchases, as well as aftersales services. All transactions are processed securely through FOMO Pay's enterprise-grade gateway, ensuring compliance, transparency, and real-time exchange rates at the point of payment. "FOMO Pay is excited to partner Volkswagen Group Singapore in elevating their consumer payment experience," said Rose Wang, Head of Digital Payments at FOMO Pay. "As Singapore advances toward becoming a smart financial center, we believe digital assets will continue to play an important role in improving customer experience. At FOMO Pay, we remain committed to delivering a full suite of payment solutions, from digital currencies to fiat, and from online channels to offline channels. These payment solutions aim to empower businesses and enhance customer experiences." Volkswagen Group Singapore is a subsidiary of Porsche Holding Salzburg, which is fully owned by the Volkswagen Group. The company's portfolio includes Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, ŠKODA, CUPRA and Das WeltAuto — Volkswagen Group Singapore' certified pre-owned car programme. Volkswagen Group Singapore imports and retails Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Škoda and CUPRA vehicles directly.
