I've been a bridesmaid five times... the amount I've spent on weddings is jaw-dropping

Daily Mail8 hours ago

A woman has shared the eye-watering amount that she's forked over for friends' weddings - joking she 'could have put a down payment on a house' with the amount she's spent.
Sacramento-based Shannon Detrick, 30, revealed she's been a bridesmaid in five of her close friends weddings - and she broke down the total cost.
She explained in the now-viral TikTok that for the first bachelorette party, which was held in Palm Springs, Shannon spent $965, with the wedding being held semi locally and costing her $916.
'Bachelorette number two was for one of my high school BFFs, it was in Miami, and [I] spent $1,425,' she said.
The wedding was local again, costing Shannon $522.
The third bachelorette party was held in New Orleans, Louisiana, coming to a total of $1,536.
The wedding took place in Denver, meaning they had to fly out, which cost her another $1,782.
'Bachelorette number four was in Sonoma [California], it was her 30th birthday so we kind of balled out,' she admitted, revealing the total she spent was $1,676.
The wedding was held in Maine, with accommodation and flights coming to $1,982.
The fifth celebration was a joint party held in Scottsdale, with Shannon's husband's cost included in the total, which was $2,978. That wedding cost her another $1,081.
In total, Shannon spent $14,863 on five bachelorettes and weddings, spending an average of $1,256 on the weddings and $1,716 on the bachelorette festivities.
She added her time as a bridesmaids isn't over yet, with upcoming maid of honor duties for her sister's wedding and bachelorette coming soon.
'Love all of these people SO MUCH and would do any one of these events over in a heart beat,' she captioned the post.
She continued: 'But its always important to remember that saying "yes" comes with a [price] tag!
'Brides/couples: be very open with your wedding party before expecting them to say yes.
'Also be flexible with your expectations for things like travel, bachelorette parties, etc. in this economy.'
'Your friends (usually) WANT to be there for you!' she added. 'Bridesmaids/wedding party: make the most out of the trips! Its such a special time for your people and being by their side is truly so special.'
According to The Knot, the average cost of being a bridesmaid is between $1,200 to $1,800 but said it could be as high as $2,950.
Many bridesmaids have taken to social media to share their qualms over being invited to be a part of someone's big day - with an astronomical price tag.
Earlier in the year, a woman posted a lengthy message to Reddit, sharing her concerns over an upcoming wedding after the bride told her bridal party she expected them to cover huge financial costs of her pre-wedding events.
'When asking us to be in the wedding party, the bride made it clear she expected bridesmaids to pay for our dresses, alterations, and to be present for the rehearsal and wedding,' the woman explained in the Reddit post, shared to the Am I The A**hole Subreddit.
She offered to either pay for makeup OR hair for me (the maid-of-honor) but said the bridesmaids can pay extra to have those done the day of the event,' she explained.
The woman added that the other bridesmaids have expressed concern about escalating costs, which she also shares.
However, when she spoke with the bride, she suggested that it would be easiest for the bridesmaids to understand the total costs they're expected to incur for the wedding, including dress, alterations, bridal shower, bachelorette, and any incidentals.
'I argued (politely) that we need to have an idea of what's expected of us, and it's not on us to create/manage the budget for her wedding,' she explained.
'I asked for a clear spreadsheet of our expected expenses so I can speak with the bridesmaids and make a plan,' she shared.
'Is it normal for bridesmaids to not know what's expected of them? I don't know much about weddings or being MOH and want her to have an amazing wedding without breaking the bank for the other ladies,' the woman shared, adding: 'I'm never saying yes to MOH again.'
After speaking with the bride, the bridal party was given an estimate of $1,000 each.
'This is much higher than the initial $100 on a dress and alterations,' she pointed out.
Reddit users agreed that the bridesmaids shouldn't be wildly out of pocket to cover someone else's wedding.

Amanda Bynes looks downcast on rare solo outing after joining OnlyFans

Amanda Bynes looked downcast as she was seen on a rare solo outing after joining X-rated subscription site OnlyFans. The 39-year-old actress was seen looking rather despondent as she hit luxury grocery store Erewhon in Calabasas on Thursday. Bynes kept her look simple as she sported a light grey full zip hoodie with skinny black jeans and matching Vans Old Skool high-top sneakers. She had her hands full as she carried a brown paper bag from the celebrity-favorite organic supermarket along with a pink Elfbar vape. Her blonde locks were worn down as the sides were pinned up to resemble a mullet style haircut as she wore minimal make-up. This comes weeks after it was revealed that Bynes is seeing her OnlyFans venture as a 'career renaissance' and wants to use it to divulge stories from her time at Nickelodeon, a year on from an explosive documentary which exposed the 'toxic environment' at the TV network. Bynes announced her foray into the X-rated subscription site in April, telling fans she was using it merely to communicate with them, and insisted she will not be sharing anything 'sleazy.' Now, a source close to the former child star has claimed the move will not only afford her the opportunity to make money, share her fashion designs and provide a potential springboard into reality TV, but will also be a safe space to reveal 'what happened from her past at Nickelodeon.' 'Amanda was looking into making money and is convinced that OnlyFans will bring some serious cash her way,' the insider told 'Her intentions are to do this before she seeks any reality show opportunities. 'She understands the stigma around OnlyFans, but she is determined to make this very safe – nothing naughty. She wants to share some of her future designs with her fans, collaborate with them and she also wants to tell stories to people who don't know everything about what happened from her past at Nickelodeon. 'She wants to make it a spot where fans can go and treat it like a meet and greet.' She pursued fashion and art at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, graduating with an Associate's of Art degree in 2014. The insider said she 'doesn't care if friends won't like that she is doing this' as she is 'looking to change course on how she has lived her life the last few years.' They added: 'She is seeing OnlyFans as a bit of a career renaissance.' Bynes announced her OnlyFans debut on Instagram, 15 years after quitting the entertainment business. Bynes, 39, announced her foray into the X-rated subscription site on Tuesday, telling fans she was using it to communicate with them, and insisted she will not be sharing anything 'sleazy' 'I'm doing onlyfans to chat with my fans through dm's,' she wrote alongside a screenshot of her new profile. 'I won't be posting any sleazy content. Excited to join.' She is charging fans more than $50 per month to access her page which currently has mirror selfies. Bynes has maintained a relatively low profile since quitting Hollywood in 2010. In December 2024, she hosted a pop-up art show that was attended by celebrities including Miley Cyrus' younger sister, Noah. It followed a tumultuous time for the troubled star who suffered a highly publicized breakdown in the early 2010s before being placed under a legal conservatorship by her parents for nine years back in 2013. Her downward spiral hit the headlines again last year after the release of Discovery documentary Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids, which shone a light on the 'close' relationship that producer Dan Schneider had with the teenage star. Schneider – who helped create some of the network's most popular shows like All That, Drake & Josh, Henry Danger, Kenan & Kel, Sam & Cat, The Amanda Show, Victorious, Zoey 101, and iCarly – was accused of being overtly inappropriate with Bynes, who is 20 years his junior, as well as with other employees. In the wake of the documentary a video circulated of a bikini-clad Bynes, who was a child at the time, sitting in a hot tub with a fully clothed Schneider. The clip was taken from Bynes' recurring sketch, Amanda's Jacuzzi, which saw the young star interview guests in the bubbling pool. Commentators recalled Schneider and Bynes being 'very close' – including 'physically.' Karyn Finley Thompson, who worked as an editor on several Nickelodeon shows, said: 'There were many times that I saw Amanda sitting behind him, hugging him or giving him like a neck massage or whatever. 'Dan and Amanda had a close relationship, and I didn't think anything different than that. The hot tub scene though I always thought was a little odd.' Schneider departed from the network in 2018 amid numerous allegations of misconduct. At the time, Nickelodeon said it had performed an internal investigation and found that evidence to back up the allegations was 'non-existent.' Schneider, who joined the network in 1993, responded to the allegations made on the documentary in a 19 minute YouTube video in which he admitted that he 'regretted' his past actions and that he owed 'some people a pretty strong apology.' He said he was 'embarrassed' by his behavior in the writer's room and also apologized for his frequent requests for massages from female members of staff while in the studio. But he denied he was involved in any sort of sexual abuse either on the set of, or behind the scenes. In May, two months after the documentary was released, he filed a defamation legal case against the producers, branding the show a 'hit job.' Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV described Nickelodeon in the early 2000s as an 'insidious environment rife with allegations of abuse, sexism, racism and inappropriate dynamics with its underage stars and crew.'

All the clues about Aaron Rodgers' mystery wife as conspiracy theories swirl after shock 'wedding'

Aaron Rodgers claims to have a new bride, but outside of a black wedding band on the third finger of his left hand, proof of his supposed nuptials is noticeably absent. The new Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback told reporters after one of his first sessions with the team that he got married 'a few months ago' following weeks of speculation after he'd been spotted with the ring on his finger. His shock revelation came six months after he announced live on The Pat McAfee show that he had found love again with someone named 'Brittani', albeit without providing any more details. And after the marriage bombshell, multiple sources told that Rodgers' family are beginning to question if the man the Steelers are banking on to helm them to their first Super Bowl in over a decade is actually someone's husband. As of today, public records show no trace of a legal marriage. So what do we know about his mystery 'fiancee'? has taken a closer look at the controversy surrounding Rodgers' apparent marriage. Who is Aaron Rodgers' fiancee? At the time of writing, Rodgers' new partner is known only as 'Brittani'. The four-time MVP revealed during his weekly appearance on ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show in December that he had ordered Christmas presents for his mysterious girlfriend. 'I was a little bit worried because there was one package left for my girlfriend Brittani that hadn't showed up yet, so I'd been waiting on this to show up,' he said on the daily sports talk show. 'It showed up today so everything is great now.' After laughing off a joke from a member of the crew that he's dating Britney Spears , Rodgers confirmed that his girlfriend's name is the version spelt with an 'i'. He revealed that his new love interest is not on any social-media channels after joking that she probably doesn't watch McAfee's show despite being a fan of the ESPN host. What has he said about it? After he reported for his first day of practice as a Steeler earlier this month, Rodgers claimed that Pittsburgh isn't the only new addition to his life. The NFL veteran revealed that he has a new wife as well as a new team, telling members of the media that he tied the knot 'a couple of months' ago. "I used to enjoy a little outing to go do my Christmas shopping but I actually ordered all of it online this year.. I've been waiting on one last package to show up for my girlfriend and it showed up today" Congratulations @AaronRodgers12 👏 #PMSLive — Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) December 23, 2024 When questioned about the glaring band circling his finger, Rodgers admitted, 'Yes, it's a wedding ring.' He had first sparked rumors last month when he was spotted at the Kentucky Derby with a band on his ring finger. What do his family think? The news of Rodgers' marriage caught several members of his family and friends off guard, and this week multiple sources told that they are beginning to question if it genuinely happened. A clerk in the Pennsylvania county where he was rumored to have moved to also told this week that no such marriage involving the football star has been registered. County officials in Las Vegas, a common venue for quick celebrity weddings, also confirmed that there is no record of an Aaron Rodgers getting married there this year. What's more, not even his closest relatives seem to know anything about the mysterious woman he now calls his wife, known only as 'Brittani', though given his well-documented fractured relationship with his family, that may not be too surprising. Rodgers has been embroiled in a longtime feud with his younger brother Jordan, the winner of The Bachelorette in 2016, which dates back to his appearance on the reality show. Earlier this week, exclusively reported that Jordan and his wife JoJo Fletcher did not attend the former Packers star's wedding. One insider said: 'Jordan and JoJo didn't go to the wedding and don't even know anything really about Brittani. What they've heard is secondhand from his parents. 'They are still angry that Aaron didn't go to their wedding. He didn't want to be with his brother on the biggest day of his life, so why should they twist themselves up over this wedding? But now insiders say the family is unconvinced the marriage is real – and suspect Rodgers may have had a symbolic 'commitment ceremony' instead of a legally binding wedding. Who did Rodgers date before 'Brittani'? Rodgers' most recent love interest was former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, with the pair spending close to two years together before splitting in 2020. Last month Patrick sensationally claimed the relationship was 'emotionally abusive' and 'wore me down to nothing'. The ex-racer, who has become a staunch supporter of Donald Trump in recent years, opened up on her romance with the NFL quarterback to ex-ESPN broadcaster Sage Steele. When asked to name the most painful experience of her life, Patrick said: 'The breakup with Aaron in 2020, because it was sudden. It felt like it was my life. 'So when you live with somebody, it's your whole life… and because the nature of the relationship was emotionally abusive, so that wore me down to nothing. 'Someone that you know, people could never imagine that I would lack any confidence or belief in the simple things about who I am. Everything was torn to bits. He leaves a trail of blood. 'I don't think I'm saying too much earth-shattering stuff - there's been enough out there. 'But it gave me the greatest gift, which is myself. It gave me the greatest gift of how much I needed to show up for myself and take care of myself.' After their split, Rodgers enjoyed short-lived flings with ex-fiancee Shailene Woodley and Mallory Edens. The Super Bowl winner even got engaged to Hollywood actress Woodley, who recently told People about their 2022 split: 'I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy. I really understood depression and anxiety and, like, complete soul detachment.' Rodgers also dated another American actress in Olivia Munn from 2014 to 2017.

Duchess of Sussex announces launch of own wine

The rose, described as having 'soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish', on her As Ever website, will be available to buy next month. The new range of food items that went on sale on Friday included a 'limited edition orange blossom honey' at a cost of 28 dollars (£20). Also available were an apricot spread in 'keepsake packaging', and a crepe mix, both £10 each, flower sprinkles for £11 and a range of different herbal teas at £9 for a box of 12 sachets. The new range went on sale at 4pm UK time, and had all sold out by just before 8pm. Meanwhile, a message on the homepage of the As Ever site read: 'Our debut Napa Valley rose is launching just in time for summer entertaining. 'With soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish, this bespoke blend is launching just in time for summer entertaining, and will be available for purchase on July 1st.' In an Instagram post at the same time as the new products went live, the California-based duchess wrote: 'Yummies, and honeys, and fruit spreads, oh my!' Meghan had promised some 'delicious surprises' as she teased, earlier this week, that she would be offering some new products on the site. She previously said the original April launch had been 'absolutely extraordinary'. But she also spoke of her fear that she annoyed customers when the first batch of her jam and herbal teas sold out in less than an hour. She said wanted to wait until it is 'completely stable and we have everything we need'. In the run-up to her re-stock, Meghan shared a photo of jam-making preparations including bowls of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, and freshly squeezed lemons, on her Instagram stories, writing: ''June gloom?' Not over here! Because this month your favourite products are back.' Her official As Ever account also posted: 'To all who've been wondering and waiting, thank you! 'Your favourites are returning, plus a few NEW things we can't wait to show you. Coming this month … get excited!'
