TruAlt Bioenergy gains OMC status, plans 100+ flex-fuel outlets across India
TruAlt Bioenergy
has been authorised as an Oil Marketing Company (OMC), enabling it to market and retail ethanol, Bio-CNG, petrol, diesel, and electric vehicle (EV) services across India. The company will roll out more than 100 flex-fuel retail outlets initially in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
The company has become one of the first private biofuel companies in India to receive this authorisation. The approval allows the company to retail both renewable and conventional fuels, expanding its operations into the fuel marketing segment.
Retail plans and rural focus
The company plans to set up fuel stations offering ethanol (E93), Bio-CNG, petrol, diesel, EV charging, and battery swapping services. TruAlt also aims to establish at least 5% of its outlets in notified remote areas. The retail expansion is expected to generate employment for over 2,000 people.
Vijay Nirani, MD, TruAlt Bioenergy, said, 'Securing OMC status marks a defining step in TruAlt Bioenergy's growth journey. This milestone enables us to directly serve India's evolving fuel needs while accelerating the shift toward cleaner energy. While our retail network will support conventional fuels, our greater focus will be on integrating biofuels and expanding rural outreach.
'By setting up outlets across high-demand corridors and remote regions, we aim to drive rural development, generate local employment, and help build a more inclusive and sustainable energy infrastructure for the country."
Position in the biofuels sector
TruAlt holds a 7% share in India's molasses-based ethanol market and 3.7% of the overall ethanol supply. The company is also expanding in the compressed biogas (CBG) segment and is working on plans to enter the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) space, with a proposed production facility of 10 crore litres annually.
India's consumption of petroleum products reached 239.5 million metric tonnes in FY 2024–25. Petrol use grew by 7.5% and aviation turbine fuel by 8.9%. The petrol-to-diesel consumption ratio has shifted from 3.6 to 2.3 over the past decade, with petrol demand rising at a compound annual growth rate of 7.7%.
Nirani added: 'With over 2.5 crore cars sold annually, surpassing the population of many countries, India's appetite for mobility is growing at an extraordinary pace. This is our moment to shape a retail network that fuels today's growth while powering the transition to a cleaner, more intelligent, and purpose-driven mobility ecosystem.'
India's ethanol blending has reached 18.4% in the current ethanol supply year, with a record 19.7% in February 2025. TruAlt's entry into SAF production aims to position the company as a key player globally in ethanol-based aviation fuel.

Big push to oil & gas infra in last 11 years
New Delhi: Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Thursday said that over the last 11 years, India's oil and gas sector has expanded steadily, from building modern refineries and pipelines to securing reserves and promoting cleaner fuels as part of the infrastructure revolution that is taking place in the country. The minister said, 'Infrastructure has been central to India's growth story under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and these efforts in the oil and gas sector have strengthened the country's energy security and laid the foundation for a self-sufficient future.' Highlighting the infrastructure milestones in the oil and gas sector, Puri said that the country now has 23 modern operational refineries with a total capacity of 257 million metric tonnes per annum to produce petroleum products such as petrol, diesel, jet fuel and LPG The Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure that provides green cooking fuel to household kitchens in the country has been expanded to cover 733 districts across the country. Besides, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for fuelling vehicles is being provided across 8,000 retail stations to consumers nationwide. The minister also underlined that E20 ethanol blended petrol was now being made available for vehicles at all the retail outlets nationwide. He further stated that the Ministry's Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) initiatives have resulted in the setting up of 106 plants with the combined capacity of 625 TPD. The minister also highlighted the ministry's initiative in setting up storage facilities for strategic petroleum reserves, on which the country can fall back in times of emergency and which assume importance during times of geopolitical reserves can also be dipped into at times when global prices skyrocket to provide a cushion to the national oil companies. The minister mentioned that the storage capacity at Pudur is 2.25 million metric tonnes (MMT), the Visakhaptnam facility has the capacity to store 1.33 MMT of crude oil while Mangalore has a storage capacity of 1.5 MMT.

IOC, BPCL, Other OMC Stocks Tank Up To 6% As Brent Crude Tops $75 On Israel-Iran Tensions
Last Updated: Shares of OMCs tumbled on Friday as geopolitical tensions flared in the Middle East after Israel launched an airstrike on Iran Shares of oil marketing companies (OMCs) tumbled on Friday as geopolitical tensions flared in the Middle East after Israel launched an airstrike on Iran. The development sent Brent crude futures soaring by over $6 to $75.36 per barrel, marking their highest level in several months. Fears of potential supply disruptions, especially through the strategic Strait of Hormuz—a key global oil transit route—triggered sharp selloffs in OMC stocks. Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) led the decline, plunging 6.1% to Rs 299.20. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) fell 5.3% to Rs 371.35, while Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) dropped 3.9% to Rs 137.40. Early Friday, the Israeli government confirmed it had carried out airstrikes on Iran, with explosions reported in the capital city of Tehran. The strikes were aimed at damaging Iran's nuclear facilities and weakening its ballistic missile capabilities, as part of Israel's broader strategic offensive. In response, Iranian state media reported a state of heightened alert, amid growing fears of further military escalation between the two nations. The attack sent shockwaves through global energy markets. Oil prices surged as investors factored in a risk premium, anticipating potential disruptions to supply routes and heightened geopolitical instability in the region. At last count, Brent futures were trading at $78.48, up 13.16 per cent. Emkay Global said oil prices continue to be volatile, with geopolitical risks (US-Iran, Russia-Ukraine) and trade developments (US-China) driving Brent currently from $60 a barrel a month ago, while OPEC+ continues to raise production. ICICI Securities said strong GRMs and retail margins in June quarter imply robust earnings prospects for the OMCs for FY26 if these trends hold. 'Refining market still has demand and supply as broadly balanced, but H1FY26 is seeing strength owing to closures of large refineries across Europe and the US (see exhibit 3-4). The sudden tightness in supplies of key transport fuels has driven unexpected strength in margins for gasoline/diesel and ATF, which in turn has driven theoretical GRMs for Indian refiners to multi-month highs in May," it said. Additionally, retail fuel margins continue to benefit from a combination of lower crude prices and limited pressure to cut fuel prices domestically, it said. 'This, coupled with sharply lower LPG loss estimated in FY26, drives our renewed optimism for the OMCs. Reiterate BUY on all three names," the brokerage said. Emkay Global said fundamental factors would prevail as it does not see any reason for upping FY26E Brent assumption of $70 per barrel. 'Despite shifting sentiments, the year so far has been solid for OMCs, with diesel-petrol marketing margin at Rs 9-13 per litre, LPG under-recoveries down to Rs 176m per cylinder (from Rs 247 in Q4FY25), and gasoline cracks moving up by over $2 per barrel QoQ," Emkay Global said. Against this, lower oil prices would create inventory losses though BPCL-HPCL should not see more than a $1.5-2.0 per barrel impact if crude price closes at $70 a barrel. 'IOCL, due to an extended cycle, is likely to record a loss of up to $4 a barrel. Nevertheless, Q1FY26E reported PAT for HPCL/BPCL/IOCL is likely to be 49 per cent/42 per cent/33 per cent of our full year estimate, with Q2 also looking good given that LPG losses would fall further to Rs 150 per cylinder," Emkay Global said. The currency has also been stable, and any LPG subsidy or further fall in international LPG prices grants further upside potential for OMCs' earnings. 'We favor HPCL, followed by BPCL, and IOCL in that order, and reiterate BUY with TP of Rs 500/Rs 400/ Rs 170, respectively," it said. First Published: June 13, 2025, 09:39 IST

Standing committee ready to work with two BJP councillors at helm
New Delhi: After a gap of two and a half years, the standing committee of got its chairperson and deputy chairperson, with BJP's Satya Sharma and Sunder Singh being elected to the respective positions on Thursday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Following the elections, the formation of the standing committee was complete, which is expected to accelerate key development and administrative initiatives. The 18-member committee is the key panel that controls the finances of the civic body. Any project above Rs 5 crore needs its approval. Due to the absence of the committee, many policy matters and projects related to sanitation got stuck. Sharma, a councillor from Gautampuri in northeast Delhi, also served as the mayor in the erstwhile East Delhi Municipal Corporation. Sharma, a three-time councillor, polled 11 votes while AAP-nominated Praveen Kumar received seven votes. Deputy mayor candidate Singh also received 11 votes against seven votes by AAP's Mohini Jeenwal. BJP has a clear majority in the standing committee with 11 members. One of the projects that was delayed due to the non-formation of the committee was a redevelopment plan for Hari Nagar depots I and II, which function as CNG bus depots accommodating 230 buses. A multilevel structure has been proposed that would increase bus parking capacity to 384 vehicles while creating 2 lakh square feet of commercial space on upper floors for sale. Several development projects over Rs 5 crore are also waiting for a nod, including finalising an agency for door-to-door garbage collection in the central and west zones, opening a dog park, engaging a new toll tax operator, and Shahjahanabad Interpretation Centre. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The work for finalising the layout plan for projects belonging to various agencies is also pending. The standing committee, comprising elected councillors, possesses substantial financial and administrative authority. It has six members directly chosen from the MCD house while the remaining 12 members represent the 12 municipal zones. It serves as the initial platform for examining administrative, monetary and operational matters. The committee holds the crucial role of preliminary examination and endorsement of proposals. Any proposal rejected at this stage does not advance to the house. The measure ensures that the house, under the mayor's leadership, can only deliberate on matters that have received prior recommendation from the standing committee.
