Musk branded the OpenAI CEO a 'liar' on X, accusing him of misleading the public amid their ongoing war of words. The post quickly drew widespread attention, leaving many asking: What triggered this now?Musk was furious after Altman suggested the billionaire manipulated X's algorithm to promote his own posts and companies—just as Musk threatened Apple with legal action for allegedly boosting OpenAI on the App Store.'You got 3M views on your bulls**t post, you liar,' Musk wrote. 'Far more than I've received on many of mine, despite me having 50 times your follower count!"Altman double down, challenging Musk to swear under oath that he never interfered with the algorithm. 'I will apologize if so,' Altman replied.Adding fuel to the fire, Musk's own xAI chatbot Grok backed Altman. It cited 2023 reports saying Musk had a history of tweaking X's algorithm to serve his interests. Musk hit back by sharing a screenshot from ChatGPT claiming he's more trustworthy than Altman.Aravind Srinivas, Perplexity AIPerplexity AI has stunned the tech world with an audacious $34.5 billion all-cash offer for Google's browser Chrome. It's a bold move, especially for a company valued at just $14 billion. However, it's not without reason. With over 3 billion users, Chrome gives Perplexity instant access to a massive distribution channel. The timing is strategic, too: US regulators are pressuring Google to sell Chrome after a federal judge ruled it had abused its 90% search dominance. While Google is lobbying for softer remedies, the Department of Justice wants full divestment.Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas says the offer ensures Chrome remains open-source. The company has pledged a $3 billion investment over two years, though financial details remain unclear. Still, Perplexity claims the money is ready and waiting.A court ruling is due this month. Even if the bid doesn't succeed, it's a clear signal that Perplexity wants to muscle into AI search and is willing to go all in.Perplexity AI has rolled out free access to Indian stocks and crypto data via its Finance tab, offering BSE, NSE and crypto information that's usually paywalled.Indian users now get historical prices, volumes, earnings, and stock screening tools – features often locked behind broker and fintech paywalls. The Trump administration has backed a key change to the H-1B visa programme: selecting applications based on salary levels instead of a random lottery. This move is significant, particularly for Indian tech workers, who typically account for over 70% of the 85,000 annual H-1B visas. The new model favours higher-paying roles. A $213,000 Level 4 software engineer in San Francisco would now rank ahead of a $135,000 Level 1 position. That could squeeze out entry-level hires and pressure employers to boost salaries and raise costs in the process. This proposal echoes a 2021 Trump-era rule that was shelved after legal challenges.Indian IT firms and US tech giants may need to rethink hiring strategies, with knock-on effects on diversity and talent planning.USCIS will open a public comment window for up to 60 days. Final implementation could take months, but the industry is already preparing.

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari , on Sunday affirmed that India's logistics cost will come down to single-digit by the end of logistics cost of India is 14-16 per cent, China's is 8 per cent, and Europe and America have 12 per cent each, Gadkari said, addressing the event in the national capital that marked the inauguration of two major National Highway projects by Prime Minister Narendra Modi."I want to assure the Prime Minister and all of you that before the end of 2026, the logistics cost of our country will come in the single digits, which will be very important for our exports. We will become even more competitive," the Minister said. The section will also provide Multi-modal connectivity to Yashobhoomi, DMRC Blue line and Orange line, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station and the Dwarka cluster Bus Depot. This section comprises:The Prime Minister earlier inaugurated the 19 km long Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway in March Minister also inaugurated the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) along with new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, built at a cost of around ₹5,580 will ease traffic on Delhi's Inner and Outer Ring Roads and busy points like Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09. The new spurs will provide direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, enhance industrial connectivity, reduce city traffic, and expedite goods movement in the NCR.... Arunachal's agri-allied sector witnessing rapid growth: Khandu

Itanagar, Aug 17 (PTI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday said the state's agriculture and allied sector is moving on a fast track of growth and transformation, with farmers steadily shifting towards higher productivity, sustainability and prosperity. Khandu, in a post on X, said an amount of Rs 142.67 crore has been directly transferred to 99,656 farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme. 'This direct financial support has strengthened the confidence of our farmers and helped them invest more in their fields," he said. The chief minister also highlighted that 1,02,295 farmers have been provided with soil health cards, enabling them to understand soil conditions and adopt scientific farming practices. 'Healthy soil is the foundation of healthy crops, and we are ensuring our farmers get the right knowledge to use their land sustainably," he said. On irrigation, Khandu said that under the PM-Per Drop More Crop programme, 26,163 hectares of farmland have been covered and 5,658 farmers benefited through efficient micro-irrigation facilities. The CM also underlined the state's push for organic farming. He said 15,099 farmers have been supported under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development project, with Rs 23.25 crore released to promote chemical-free cultivation. 'Organic farming is not only eco-friendly, but also enhances the market value of our produce," he said. Khandu added that 96,492 Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs) have been issued, achieving 99.26 percent saturation in the state. 'This ensures that almost every eligible farmer now has timely access to credit, removing dependency on informal sources," he noted. To modernise farm practices, the government has also distributed 42,418 modern farm tools over the last nine years. 'Tools and technology are empowering our farmers to increase productivity and reduce manual drudgery," Khandu said. 'From credit to crops, tools to technology, Arunachal's farmers are moving towards higher productivity, sustainability, and prosperity," the chief minister said. Gold prices may see consolidation next week as focus shifts to Fed, US data

New Delhi, Aug 17 (PTI) Gold prices are likely to witness a phase of consolidation in the coming week as traders weigh a mix of global economic indicators, cues from central banks and shifting geopolitical dynamics, analysts said. Traders will monitor US housing numbers, consumer price data from the UK and Eurozone, and provisional PMI releases from key economies. Also, investors will closely track European Central Bank's President Christine Lagarde speech as well as commentary by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell at the Jackson Hole Symposium, which will provide further insights for the broader trajectory of the bullion prices, they added. 'Gold prices are likely to see some consolidation/correction in the coming week as focus now remains on the incoming US macroeconomic data and the Federal Reserve's meeting next month with interest rate cuts in focus. 'In the week ahead the focus will be on US housing data, CPI numbers from the UK and the Euro zone and the provisional data on manufacturing/ services PMI from across regions," Pranav Mer, Vice President, EBG – Commodity & Currency Research, JM Financial Services, said. Pranav Mer noted that safe-haven demand has eased after Washington and Beijing agreed to extend trade negotiations for another 90-days. According to Mer, weaker US macroeconomic data have highlighted a slowdown in the economic activity, but a firm producer and import price data have kept inflation concerns alive, leaving Fed officials divided on the timing of interest rate cuts. Last week, the most traded gold futures for October contract declined by Rs 1,648 per 10 grams or nearly 2 per cent on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). Prathamesh Mallya, DVP-Research, Non-Agri Commodities and Currencies at Angel One, said gold prices retreated last week as futures on the MCX slipped nearly 2 per cent. He added that 'prices declined from highs of Rs 1,02,000 to lows of Rs 1,00,000 per 10 grams after US President Donald Trump clarified that gold imports into the US would not face tariffs, in turn threatening the upside momentum of the precious metal". Going forward, Mallya added, developments from US-Russia discussions will be critical. 'If not, the possibility of increased tariffs on India will dent the macros and in turn lift gold prices in the week ahead," he added. On Saturday, Comex gold futures for December contracts ended lower at USD 3,382.60 per ounce in New York. Manav Modi, Analyst – Precious Metal Research, Motilal Oswal Financial Services, said gold prices lost ground last week as safe-haven demand eased amid shifting geopolitical and economic developments. The White House clarified that reports of US tariffs on Swiss gold were inaccurate, reversing a brief price rally that had been driven by confusion following a Customs and Border Protection note. At the same time, optimism surrounding a potential ceasefire in Ukraine gained traction, particularly after a high-profile meeting between US President Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Also, the extension of the US-China tariff truce signalled easing trade tensions further capping demand for gold as a safe-haven asset. On the supportive side, Modi said a weaker dollar and rising expectations of a US rate cut in September provided a cushion. 'Soft inflation data spurred dovish bets and Treasury Secretary Bessent hinted at a deeper 50-basis-points reduction. Modi also stated that physical gold demand in Asia, usually a seasonal driver, remained subdued due to elevated prices. Investors are turning their focus on preliminary US PMI data and Fed Chair Powell's upcoming speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium and the broader trajectory of Washington-Moscow discussions, he added. Overall, the near-term outlook for gold will hinge on how incoming data and central bank commentary shape market sentiment, analysts said.
