Stamp Out Hunger event collects 16,000 lbs of food in Siouxland
The 33rd Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive collected 16,652 pounds of non-perishable food items over the weekend. The one-day food drive is held across the country, and the local event helps collect food for Food Bank of Siouxland.
Twenty-five volunteers helped the food bank sort and pack boxes with the donated items.
'Every bag, box, and can collected helps the Food Bank of Siouxland provide meals to households facing food insecurity throughout Siouxland. It's inspiring to see the community, and especially the Letter Carriers, come together to make a real difference and I am honored to be part of this nationwide effort to Stamp Out Hunger,' stated food bank Executive Director Jacob Wanderscheid.

The food bank thanks everyone who set out food for postal carriers to collect. If you missed the drive, the bank says highly requested items include cereal, soup, canned meat, peanut butter, and canned veggies and fruits. They accept donations Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
