Abdul Ghani passed away at 1.45pm yesterday.
It is understood that Abdul Ghani, 83, had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital following complications and breathing difficulties after his house caught fire on June 19.
He will be laid to rest tonight at the Kampung Rapat Jaya Muslim Cemetery, Ipoh, Perak. — Bernama

In a letter to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, senior state officials, and the federal Minister of Plantation and Commodities, the communities claimed the company has cleared native forest since late 2023. Supported by NGOs SAVE Rivers Network and The Borneo Project, they argued the activities contravene Malaysia's 'no deforestation' policy and breach Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) standards, which prohibit conversion of natural forests after Dec 31, 2019. The NGOs also said the company failed to meet conditions of its Provisional Lease, issued in 1997. 'For generations, the forests have been the indigenous groups' source of food, clean water, medicine, cultural identity, and livelihoods,' the NGOs said, adding that native customary rights (NCR) lands were developed without community consent. Despite efforts including a court injunction, blockades, petitions, and a complaint to the MSPO Board, the communities alleged that clearing has continued. They said police dismantled two peaceful blockades since December, arresting five villagers. The appeal calls for an immediate halt to all clearing, an independent investigation, a probe into possible lease violations, recognition of NCR lands, and public release of lease maps and environmental impact assessments. Malaysia must build internal capabilities, says Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia must build its own internal capabilities as it cannot continue to rely in foreign technology, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister said that this covers areas such as cloud computing, as it is necessary to protect the country's classified information and strategic assets. Anwar added that this,was discussed while he chaired the National Cyber Security Committee (JKSN) Meeting No. 2 of 2025 on Thursday (Aug 21) and emphasised the need for new technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing to be addressed through a security lens. "Therefore, the government will continue to strengthen the country's cyber defence by protecting critical infrastructure, increasing public awareness, and strengthening cooperation among government agencies, the private sector, and international partners. "In terms of legislation, the Cybercrime Bill will be tabled in Parliament at the end of this year," he said in a post uploaded on his Facebook page on Thursday night. Anwar said every individual also plays a role in protecting personal data when dealing online, including through the use of MyDigital ID, which now records an average of 25,000 users per day as a result of integration with applications such as MyJPJ, MySejahtera, MyBayar PDRM, and MyGOV. "Malaysia's commitment is also expressed at the global level. In the near future, we will sign the United Nations Convention on cybercrime in Hanoi, Vietnam, as proof of our determination to strengthen international cooperation against digital crime," he said. He said the meeting also emphasised the importance of developing post-quantum cryptography (PQC) technology together with the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), researchers, and the industry. He emphasised the need for building domestic expertise in areas including cloud computing to safeguard the country's classified information and strategic assets. This matter received attention during his chairing of the National Cyber Security Committee Meeting Number Two of 2025 today. The discussion highlighted how emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud computing must be evaluated through security considerations. 'Therefore, the government will continue to strengthen the country's cyber defence by protecting critical infrastructure, increasing public awareness, and strengthening cooperation among government agencies, the private sector, and international partners,' he said. Anwar confirmed that the Cybercrime Bill will be presented to Parliament before the end of this year as part of legislative enhancements. He noted that individual citizens also bear responsibility for protecting personal data during online activities. The MyDigital ID system now averages twenty five thousand users daily following integration with applications including MyJPJ, MySejahtera, MyBayar PDRM, and MyGOV.
