Dulwich Picture Gallery is opening a new pavilion and sculpture garden

At more than 200 years old, Dulwich Picture Gallery is the oldest purpose-built public art gallery in the world. So, naturally, it takes the matter of bringing brilliant art to the public very seriously. As well as its permanent collection of pieces from the likes of Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Dyck and Gainsborough, DPG frequently puts on tours, lectures, after-hours events and kids activities to make art as accessible as it can be. And, in keeping with that mission, next month it's unveiling a major transformation.
Dulwich Picture Gallery has extended across three acres of extra green space and now has a new permanent ArtPlay Pavilion, a families cafe and an even bigger free-to-access Sculpture Garden. The £5m project is the biggest redevelopment at the gallery in 20 years and is set to be revealed to the public in September. And there's going to be a weekend of events to celebrate.
The new ArtPlay Pavilion has been designed by architects at Carmody Groarke and with help from artist duo Sarah Marsh and Stephanie Jefferies, will 'immerse under eight-year-olds in a sensory-rich play space'. It's design will allow kids to jump into paintings housed inside the gallery, running along Canaletto's Venetian bridges and swinging among Nicolas Poussin's romantic clouds.
Elsewhere in the gallery's makeover, the Lovington Sculpture Meadow is the new wing of the beloved sculpture garden. It takes up a previously under-utilised field at the south end of the green space and features an 'art forest' of roughly 130 new trees. Inside, visitors find interactive sculptures by the likes of Amy Stephens, Tai Shani, Nika Neelova and Harold Offeh.
To mark the opening, on Saturday September 6 and Sunday September 7, the gallery will be hosting ArtPlay Festival. Across the weekend there'll be creative workshops with visual artist Harold Offeh, printmaking, storytelling sessions, glitter face painting, a silent disco and a classical music showcase from the City of London Sinfonia.
Jennifer Scott, the director of Dulwich Picture Gallery, said: 'What a huge moment this is for Dulwich Picture Gallery as we transform our outdoor spaces. I am immensely grateful to all the supporters who have helped us to make our vision a reality, staying true to the Gallery's founding idea that great art is made for sharing.'

Kate and William's 'forever home' means two families must move

William and Kate and their young children will make use of the eight-bedroom mansion and use it as a "fresh start" for the family as they move on from painful memories Two families will need to leave their properties so William and Kate will be able to live in an eight-bedroom "forever home," according to reports. ‌ The Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children are due to move into the Grade II-listed 300-year-old Forest Lodge later this year. The £16,000 mansion in a corner of Windsor Great Park was described as the family's "forever home" and where William will continue to live when he becomes King. ‌ Earlier in the summer, two families who lived in cottages close to the mansion were asked to leave their properties. The cottages were converted from the Forest Lodge's stables are believed to have been rented out by the Crown Estate. ‌ The tenants were said to have been "surprised" at having been asked to leave, reports the Mail On Sunday. It was understood that no eviction noticed had been served and the tenants moved to similar housing in the massive 4,800-acre Great Park. "They were told to move out," one unnamed source told the outlet. "I guess they were given somewhere else, but they were told they had to move. "They were not expecting it. Those houses are very close to the lodge, so they're not going to want any Tom, Dick or Harry living in those houses if there are going to be royals there." The mansion features a ballroom, complete with chandeliers, a tennis court, extensive grounds as well as Venetian windows. It is a large upgrade compared to the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage where the young family lived for the past three years. ‌ The property is about four miles from their old home, which the family lived in during one of the more challenging periods for them. Royal Family matriarch and beloved Queen Elizabeth II died just weeks after they moved in. Last year, both King Charles and Kate bravely announced they were undergoing treatment for cancer. Royal insiders told the outlet the family want a "fresh start" at Forest Lodge and view it as a way to leave behind some of their more painful memories. One source told the Mail on Sunday: "This house is much larger than Adelaide Cottage. There is a dining room and drawing room which require substantial pieces of furniture." There are some royal insiders who have been more sceptical to call the mansion the family's "forever home." Another unnamed source said: "How can this be their forever home? It's not grand enough for a king."

Take the stress out of planning a hen do with just four special AI prompts

With all of our social media feeds filled with weddings and, of course, elaborate hen do's, the pressure is on for bridesmaids to plan the perfect party. But can ChatGPT's new feature help? Wedding season is well underway and were successfully kickstarted by Charli XCX'S Hackney celebrations and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' controversial Venetian nuptials. But no matter how high-status the celebration, one of the most stressful aspects remains the same: planning the hen do. ‌ If you've been lucky enough to be bestowed the title of Maid of Honour or bridesmaid, you have also likely found yourself straddled with planning the hen party. Even if the likes of Kris Jenner aren't on the guest list, as she was for Lauren Sanchez's Paris bachelorette, feeling the need to impress can be a tall order. The hen do is typically meant to celebrate the last night of singledom and an opportunity to strengthen the bonds between close friends. ‌ But how do you get the balance right? Planning around a wedding can get complicated quickly and lead to unfortunate mistakes. Luckily, an AI spokesperson has revealed how you can use a new ChatGPT feature to plan your hen do, which can help allow plans to run smoothly. It comes after a woman travels 8 hours for wedding only to be told to leave for not reading invite 'small print'. ‌ ChatGPT's new feature, Chat GPT Agent, can conduct in-depth research, fill out online forms and even create spreadsheets. It can even book your flights. Though, it's important to note that it will always ask for verification before making purchases or handing over personal information. The feature is currently available to users on ChatGPT Pro, Plus, and Team plans. So, how can you use it to plan a hen party? ‌ Ask Chat GPT where to stay One of the most crucial parts of the hen do is, of course, the location. While destination hen do's are popular, it can be hard to know exactly where to go. Fortunately, Chat GPT Agent can factor in the number of guests and the flight time to find your perfect spot. An OpenAI spokesperson suggests the prompt: 'Plan a laid-back but unforgettable hen do for 15 people within a two hour flight from London. We're after a private villa that feels stylish and special - think sea views, sunrise yoga sessions, and a chef to cook up a delicious dinner. The vibe should be relaxed, more sunset cocktails than wild nights out.' Of course, another aspect that makes planning so difficult is navigating everyone's budget. You can round off the prompt: 'The budget is £700 per person for three days in September. Share the best options using a UK booking site with availability, total costs in GBP, and highlight any extras that would make it feel special for the bride to be.' ‌ Ask Chat GPT to plan your itinerary So, you've arrived at your perfect hen do spot, so now what? No matter where you are, ChatGPT Agent allows you to specify what kind of itinerary you would like in detail – from vibes to budget. For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. ‌ For example, an OpenAI spokesperson recommends: 'Plan a day out in London for 20 people that includes a relaxed, chic lunch in Soho, followed by a fun activity nearby and then a night out. We will also want decorations – but nothing too cringe. The activity should be laid back but fun. For the night out we are happy to have a private room in a pub, but there must be a speaker and a screen. The cost should be divided equally between 19 people and not cost over £150 per person.' Ask Chat GPT to organise your luggage You can even use ChatGPT's Vision feature to help you pack as much into your case as possible. Simply take a picture of the items you plan to pack and ask ChatGPT to arrange it for you. An OpenAI spokesperson recommends writing: 'Here's a photo of what I'm planning to pack for a hen do trip to Paris this weekend including clothes, toiletries, shoes, accessories, and my cabin-size suitcase. Can you help me arrange everything so it will fit more efficiently, and let me know if I've overpacked or forgotten anything? Prioritise space for dresses and comfortable shoes for walking.' Ask Chat GPT to pick your outfits Whether you're planning to dress as a cowgirl or a teletubby, ChatGPT's Vision feature can also help you realise your theme. A spokesperson for OpenAI suggests: ' Here's some photos of the Cowgirl theme I want to emulate for my friend's hen do. Can you send me ideas of accessories and decorations to purchase, and send relevant links from UK sites? I want the bride to have different accessories to the rest of the group, and for decorations this should include personalised menus that would arrive to my London address by 15th August'.
