‘It's an impressive skill to have both the hypnotic power and the ability to entertain… but hypnosis is not all about showbiz'
I have always been interested in hypnosis since I was fooled by a fraud at the circus. The hypnotist was dressed as a Mexican cowboy. He had dark eyes and a calm voice. I should have known he wasn't genuine when he chose to cast his spell over the clown who then began to do a series of outrageous things. The audience seemed to be intrigued by the clown's antics, but I was drawn to the hypnotist. Who was this superpowered person controlling the bloke with the big shoes and the red nose? I was mesmerised by him but in fairness, I was only six.
