Price of youth: Dubai's AEON Clinic leads push for biological age reversal with DNA targeted treatments

Biological age reversal, once relegated to the realm of science fiction, is fast becoming a clinical reality. Dubai's AEON Clinic offers several highly advanced treatments to clientele looking to achieve longevity, propelled by the vision of Founder and CEO Dr. Jaffer Khan. A veteran reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon in the UAE, Khan is placing a bold bet on the future of healthcare: reversing biological age through precision and regenerative medicine. From his clinic at Atlantis The Royal in Dubai, Khan is leading AEON Clinic, a high-end medical facility focused on extending healthspan rather than simply treating illness. The clinic targets a wealthy, globally mobile clientele with the promise of data-driven, preventive care that leverages cutting-edge science – from stem cell therapies to genomic sequencing. 'We're reversing biological age by looking at parameters such as DNA methylation,' said Khan in an exclusive interview with Arabian Business. 'There's an objective parameter that is changing. Your age is moving backwards biologically, not chronologically.' Although the price point remains high today, Khan is confident that as the technology scales and becomes more widely adopted, age-reversal treatments will move beyond the domain of the wealthy and become accessible to a broader population. Khan stresses that the approach at AEON Clinic is grounded in rigorous science rather than hype. 'We're not promising anything, you know. I mean, people come and they spend whatever $50,000 on a stem cell treatment, they are doing it knowing that we're not saying that this is going to be a game changer, a life changer for you.' The clinic provides patients with detailed diagnostics and clear benchmarks: 'Here is the science. Here is your current parameter. This is where we believe we can take you, and the rest is your journey,' he said. Data protection remains a pivotal challenge as healthcare moves deeper into personalised medicine. Khan believes that there can be excessive caution at times. 'I don't care if somebody knows my blood type. How is it going to change my life?' However, he calls for balanced regulation, 'HIPAA compliance has to happen. Okay? It has to be HIPAA compliant. You have to protect that data.' The ethical landscape surrounding regenerative medicine is complex, particularly concerning stem cell therapies. Khan pointed out the significant issues tied to embryonic stem cells. 'From an ethical perspective, regenerative medicine is right up there from stem cell technology, embryonic like, for example, one type of stem cells embryonic, but you have to kill the embryo to get it. So there's a huge ethical issue with that.' Yet the promise of such science is enormous. Breakthroughs in genetic engineering offer tantalising glimpses of the future. Khan highlighted experiments in animals demonstrating profound regenerative effects. 'Already in mice experiments, they are reversing age, growing their hair back. Blind mice are seeing again… You know all of these, what we call gene splicing, or gene transcription. It's there.' Technologies like CRISPR, which allow for precise editing of genetic sequences, have opened new frontiers. 'Since 2012 we can remove a bad segment of genomics and add a segment in what it costs for something like cystic fibrosis, maybe $2 million at the moment, but it won't be in 10 years' time,' Khan said. The dramatic drop in the cost of genome sequencing exemplifies how quickly the field is evolving. 'You know, it costs a billion dollars to decide for 3 billion to decipher the whole human genome. We do that now for $1,000 you know, as a test.' With technology advancing rapidly, treatments now available only to a wealthy few are expected to become broadly accessible. 'Although these treatments currently come with a considerably high price tag, Khan believes that in a few years when these technologies become more accessible and widespread – the service will not only be for the wealthy.' A critical part of AEON Clinic's philosophy is the long-term relationship it builds with patients. 'We're not just another retreat or one-off center. This is an ongoing clinical relationship based on diagnostics, biomarkers, and long-term planning,' Khan explained. Despite the promise of regenerative and precision medicine, Khan is clear-eyed about the importance of managing expectations. 'From an ethical point of view, we need to make sure that we introduce things without over delivering too many promises.' The clinic's approach is rooted in prudence: 'We should under promise and over deliver, rather than the other way around.' As longevity science advances, AEON Clinic is positioning itself to be a regional leader in a field that may redefine the future of healthcare. But Khan cautioned that the journey is just beginning and the technology still has to mature: 'This technology will be more and more available.' For now, patients willing to invest significant sums are embarking on what Khan calls a personal journey – one supported by cutting-edge diagnostics and treatments. 'We're reversing biological age… but what are the promises? We're not promising anything… This is where we believe we can take you, and the rest is your journey,' he concluded.

Backlash over Today Show hosts' 'out of touch' trip to Dubai and stay at $1500-a-night hotel during the deadly NSW floods - as Karl Stefanovic's wife Jasmine tags along and shows off their luxury digs

Today show viewers have slammed Channel Nine for sending the show's hosts to broadcast live from Dubai amid the record-breaking NSW floods. The breakfast program's hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo are currently staying at the Atlantis The Royal hotel in The Palm Jumeirah. The five-star accommodation starts from $1,400 for a weeknight and $1,600 for a weekend night. However, many have criticised Nine for making the decision to broadcast the show in the luxurious city while deadly floods continue to lash parts of NSW, resulting in five deaths and damaging up to 10,000 properties. 'Just want relay my disappointment how can the Today show promote a $20k suite in Dubai, when we have a cost of living crisis in Australia and over 30,000 people cut off in NSW from the floods? Seriously?' one person wrote on social media. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'And which viewer at home can afford $1000 a night to stay there. They are so out of touch,' another said. 'There's a disconnect between the show going and the viewers caring at home. It might get some tourist interest/return for Dubai as a result but it's not a viewer first initiative,' a third commented. '[Not] a good idea when you have a flooding disaster in Australia, but the hosts are reporting from overseas on a luxury trip,' another wrote. Karl, Sarah and other presenters on the Today Show including Richard Wilkins jetted to the United Arab Emirates on Friday. Karl is also joined by his wife Jasmine and their five-year-old daughter Harper who have been enjoying the holiday. Jasmine has been showing off their luxurious hotel on Instagram by regularly posting photos with her followers. It comes as more than 32,000 people remain isolated by floodwaters and about 400 properties have been deemed inhabitable or destroyed, according to the NSW State Emergency Service. More rain and strong winds are expected to impact recovery efforts with a risk of landslides and toppling trees in coming days. Jonathan How from the Bureau of Meteorology said strong winds coming through on Monday and Tuesday could hamper recovery efforts. 'We're talking about winds of 60-80km/h, which could cause a lot of damage for a lot of trees coming down,' he said. Premier Chris Minns visited Taree and said the state government wants to help the community get back on its feet as soon as possible. Hardship and disaster grants are planned to become available in the coming days and efforts to improve flood resilience in Taree and other communities will follow. But previous attempts, while well intentioned, had not always delivered in areas hit by flooding. 'We're determined not to repeat the mistakes of the past, given we're having more and more of these natural disasters,' Minns said.

Maraska Maraschino: Connecting Bartending Communities and Pioneering Industry Initiatives – A Landmark Year in the UAE

Just one year after its launch in the UAE, Maraska Maraschino – the iconic liqueur made from maraschino cherries from Zadar, Croatia – is redefining the global spirits landscape through a unique blend of heritage, innovation, and community-building. Now firmly established in Dubai's world-class bar scene, Maraska is not only delighting palates but also creating powerful cross-cultural connections between bartenders from the UAE and Croatia, with a clear focus on empowering women in the industry. From the Atlantis The Royal and Armani Hashi to Billionaire Mansion and the Burj Al Arab, Maraska Maraschino has quickly become a favourite in some of the UAE's most prestigious bars and hotels — a fitting chapter for a liqueur once savoured in Europe's royal courts over 300 years ago. What sets Maraska apart is not only its distinctive flavour but also its innovative Edutainment strategy — an industry-first approach to launching a beverage brand in the market. By seamlessly blending interactive education with engaging entertainment, Maraska introduces its brand to new markets as more than just a liqueur. It serves as a platform to empower bartenders, foster community, and celebrate creativity. Through hands-on masterclasses, spirited competitions and cultural exchanges, Maraska breathes life into its brand story while nurturing the bartending craft across continents. One of the year's standout highlights was the Cherry Blossom Bartender Competition, held at the start of 2025 with the support of Juicy, MMI, Focus Brands, and Chef Middle East. Over 57 bartenders from Dubai's top venues submitted original cocktail creations. Notably, six of the eight finalists were women — underscoring Maraska's commitment to championing female talent in the bar industry. The ultimate winner, Zahra Erfanian Azmoodeh from Atlantis The Royal, excelled in both the cocktail and mocktail categories, earning her a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Croatia during the Maraska cherry blossom season. There, Zahra visited the world's largest Maraska cherry plantation, explored the historic Maraska Distillery, and immersed herself in Croatia's rich heritage. Her journey formed a central part of Maraschino Legacy Week — a vibrant programme of events spanning seven days, five cities, four bar takeovers, and four masterclasses across Dubai and Croatia. Alongside celebrated bartender Luca Cinalli and Maraska's partners, Zahra shared insights from Dubai's cutting-edge bartending scene with Croatian bartenders and hospitality students in Sibenik. 'Visiting Croatia was a dream come true,' Zahra said. 'I was captivated by the beauty of the country, the warmth of its people, and the opportunity to connect with fellow bartenders on such a meaningful level.' Maraska's year culminated with a dynamic presence at the Gulf Bar Show — the UAE's premier beverage industry event — where Zahra joined Luca Cinalli at the Maraska stand to showcase the brand's legacy and versatility to visitors from across the region. Looking ahead, Maraska is committed to deepening its mission of empowerment and education. A series of upcoming initiatives will shine a spotlight on female bartenders, providing a forum to discuss their challenges, achievements and ambitions while fostering an inclusive and supportive network. Importantly, Maraska is also preparing for an exciting expansion into the US market later this year, bringing its distinctive liqueur to new audiences and establishing its presence in one of the world's most dynamic cocktail scenes. Building on the success of its UAE debut, Maraska will continue to champion its innovative approach — as it introduces both its product and its values to a fresh community of bartenders and enthusiasts. 'We believe in more than just great cocktails — we believe in creating connections, sharing knowledge and empowering people,' Marketing Director, Nina Stanic shared. 'By bringing together bartending communities from diverse corners of the world, we are shaping not just the future of our brand, but the future of the industry.' Maraska's remarkable first year in the UAE signals just the beginning of an exciting future — one where history, innovation, and community converge in every glass and empower bartenders around the world.

If you haven't noticed already, we're mad about food here at Time Out Dubai. And Atlantis The Royal has some great dining spots. From Persian and Greek to medieval British and afternoon tea, you can get your hands on a lot at this iconic hotel. Here is a breakdown of all the restaurants at Atlantis The Royal. Ariana's Persian Kitchen Cuisine: Persian TV chef and cookbook author Ariana Bundy brought her Persian flavours to the city. Famed for her 'Pomegranates and Roses: My Persian Family Recipes' and television travel show Ariana's Persian Kitchen, Ariana's Kitchen will serve up modern twists on Persian classics. Head to Ariana's and you'll step into a world of mellow, perfumed, Persian dishes, where fruits, nuts, herbaceous plants and floral fragrances merge with meats, grains and vegetables. One dish on the menu that Bundy loves? 'The kubideh. This dish has a cult following,' she said to Time Out Dubai. The female-led concept is a fresh, modern take on Iranian cuisine, serving Persian classics spun with a refreshingly modern twist in terms of textures, ingredients and presentation. With multiple pools and hot tubs spread across the venue, we expect Cloud 22 will be one of the hottest spots to enjoy an oyster or two while seeing the sunset. Check out our full Cloud 22 review here Heston Blumenthal's Dinner by Heston Cuisine: Medieval British First announced back in 2018, the British experimental chef behind The Fat Duck, Heston Blumenthal, has brought his creative spark and innovative gastronomy dishes to Dubai in his first restaurant in the city – Dinner By Heston Blumenthal. The restaurant takes a historic look back at British medieval cuisine from the 1300s. One of the world's most unique and exciting restaurants, Dinner is a relaxed and informal dining experience. The menu delves into British gastronomy's past, with dishes bearing historical dates and stretching back as far as the 14th century. All dishes are accompanied by an eclectic selection of global grapes, with a lively bar offering a bespoke range of drinks, distillations, and infusions. Experiential dining at its best, expect the unexpected. His iconic and signature dishes, such as the meat fruit, a playful mandarin and chicken liver parfait, and jovially named tipsy cake, a spit roast pineapple dessert circa 1810, are world-renowned.
