Bombshell update in murder of four Idaho students
Kohberger will now plead guilty to the brutal killing of four American students in their own home in Idaho, according to reports.
A life sentence is also part of the plea deal, which was first reported by NewsNation reporter Brian Entin on Monday evening.
He must reportedly spend the rest of his life locked up with no possibility of parole and must waive his right to appeal.
A court hearing over the bombshell U-turn is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
Kohberger's trial had been scheduled to start on August 18.
The family of one of the victims, Kaylee Goncalves, expressed their anger in a statement.
'It's true! We are beyond furious at the State of Idaho. They have failed us,' the family said.
'Please give us some time. This was very unexpected. We appreciate all your love and support.'

He shared at least 11 photos via his Instagram of a disorganised house with pieces of art and furniture scattered around. In two of the pics, he was seen lunging as he posed in mirror selfies. One of the captions read, 'And just like that she's back. We've all waited so long. When dreamworld needed her the most..' He also captioned a selfie of himself, 'OH NO sHES GONE MAD! CRAZY I TELL U!' Earlier on Thursday, Lil Nas X shared a video via his Instagram Story as well, in which he was seen riding shotgun in a car and dancing while Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing played over the clip. The Grammy winner has been open about his drug use in the past. In 2021, he shared that he took psychedelic mushrooms while creating his album Montero. Lil Nas X also told Variety in 2020 that after the death of his grandmother two years prior, he self-medicated by 'smoking [weed] heavily.' However, he added at the time, 'But then I started feeling more connected with the universe, and taking everything as a sign.'

‘Barricade doors': Active shooter alert issued at US university, police respond
An active shooter has been reported on the campus of a US university, with students and staff urged to shelter in place and barricade doors. Police are right now responding to the incident at Villanova University, in Pennsylvania. 'All nearby residents and students are asked to SHELTER IN PLACE AT this time,' Radnor Township Police Department wrote in a post on social media. The private Catholic university urged students to 'move to secure location' and 'lock/barricade doors' in a post on its website. People were seen running for cover and huddling under desks, sources told CBS News. The university was hosting its 'opening day' on Thursday, which included a family resource fair and information sessions and opening mass followed by a family picnic. 'Programming for families ends Thursday evening after the family picnic at approximately 6:30pm,' the university wrote on its website. No further details have been released. The incident comes weeks after a police officer was killed when a gunman opened fired near the Emory University campus in Atlanta.

‘Unfathomable': Rocker dead at 51 in horror crash
Brent Hinds, who co-founded the heavy metal band Mastodon before leaving the group earlier this year, has died. He was 51. The former lead guitarist and co-vocalist was involved in a motorcycle crash in Atlanta Wednesday night, per Atlanta News First. Hinds was reportedly riding his Harley-Davidson around 11:35pm when a BMW SUV failed to yield while making a turn at an intersection. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 'Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male who was involved in the collision,' the Atlanta Police Department said in a memo released today. 'The male appeared to be operating a Harley Davidson during the time of collision.' 'Medical personnel pronounced the male deceased,' the department continued. 'The other driver involved, a female who occupied a BMW SUV, remained on scene.' The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office has confirmed his death, and an investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Hinds' former bandmates, including bassist Troy Sanders, guitarist Bill Kelliher and drummer Brann Dailor, paid tribute to the late 'Blood and Thunder' rocker in an emotional Instagram post. 'We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief,' the band began. 'Last night Brent Hinds passed away as a result of a tragic accident. 'We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we've shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many,' they continued. 'Our hearts are with Brent's family, friends, and fans,' Sanders, Kelliher and Dailor concluded. 'At this time, we please ask that you respect everyone's privacy during this difficult time. RIP Brent.' Born William Brent Hinds in Pelham, Alabama, in 1974, Hinds relocated to Atlanta in the '90s after seeing Sanders' band perform in Birmingham, Alabama, according to Pitchfork. The pair later recruited Kelliher and Dailor and founded Mastodon in Atlanta in 2000. But after releasing several acclaimed heavy metal albums, including Remission (2002), Leviathan (2004), Emperor of Sand (2017) and Hushed and Grim (2021), Hinds abruptly departed the group in March. 'After 25 monumental years together, Mastodon and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to part ways,' Mastodon announced on Instagram at the time. 'We're deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we've shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors,' the rockers added. 'We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of Mastodon.' However, Hinds later took to social media just weeks before his death to claim that his departure from Mastodon was not voluntary. 'They kicked me out of the band for embarrassing them for being who I am,' the late 'Oblivion' singer wrote in the comments section of a Mastodon Instagram video in June. 'But what about who they are? They are two people that can't sing together live or anywhere else in the world.' Fans of the artist, meanwhile, have taken to social media to remember him.
