Veteran British actor Terence Stamp dies aged 87
Veteran British actor Terence Stamp, who starred in the original Superman films, has died aged 87. The Academy Award-nominated actor, who played Kryptonian villain General Zod in Superman and Superman II, died on Sunday. Stamp, who starred as a transgender woman in 1994's The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert, was nominated for a Bafta for his performance. Born in the East End of London in 1938, Stamp rose to acting fame in the 1960s after he won a drama school scholarship. The Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art scholarship led him to the stage, where he acted in repertory theatre and met Michael Caine, who was five years older than him. He made his film debut in Peter Ustinov's 1962 film adaptation of Herman Melville's Billy Budd and his portrayal of the title character brought an Oscar nomination. Known for his stylish clothes, Stamp famously dated actress Julie Christie, who he performed alongside in the 1967 film Far From The Madding Crowd and was also in a relationship with the model Jean Shrimpton. Stamp, left, dated actress Julie Christie, right (PA) But, after missing out on the role of James Bond, he fell out of the limelight for a while. It was not until 1978 that he got his most famous role as General Zod and appeared in Superman's 1980 sequel as the same character. Stamp's Superman co-star, British actress Sarah Douglas, who played General Zod's accomplice Ursa, paid tribute to the actor, describing him as 'beyond gorgeous and talented' in a post on Instagram. She wrote: 'So saddened to learn that Terence has left us. 'He was beyond gorgeous and talented and I learnt so very much from him. What a start to my career to have spent so many months in his company. 'My love and heartfelt condolences to all who cared for him. What a loss.' Stamp was also widely praised for his lead in director Steven Soderbergh's 1999 crime drama The Limey. He began voice acting and writing books in the late '90s, but also continued acting in films, appearing alongside Tom Cruise in Valkyrie in 2008 and working on movies directed by Tim Burton. The actor was known for his stylish clothes (Edmond Terakopian/PA) Stamp married 29-year-old Elizabeth O'Rourke in 2002 at the age of 64 but the couple divorced six years later. He did not have any children. His film career spanning six decades ended with the 2021 psychological thriller Last Night In Soho. Stamp's death was confirmed in a death notice published online, the Associated Press said.

Champion boxer Barry McGuigan tipped for this season's Living With Lucy
Champion boxer Barry McGuigan could be set to sign up to this season's Living With Lucy. The former I'm A Celebrity star is on the Classic Hit's host's list of celebrities she would love to live with this season, which airs on Virgin Media in October. An insider revealed Adare Productions – the company who produce Living With Lucy – are hoping Barry McGuigan signs up to take part in the show this year. A source: 'The team at Living With Lucy are still filming and we're hoping to get Barry on board to do the show this year.' Barry and Lucy Kennedy co-hosted the RTE reality show Charity Lords of the Ring in 2009. The show followed 10 celebrities as they trained for and participated in boxing matches to raise money for charity. McGuigan, 64, provided his expertise, while Kennedy presented the show. (Image: ITV/REX/Shutterstock) That year, McGuigan praised the Dublin host, saying Lucy, who was pregnant at the time, was 'a dream to work with'. He wrote in the Irish Independent's celebrity diary at the time: 'Lucy Kennedy has been a dream to work with. She's just a lovely, beautiful woman, full of life and energy. 'I wasn't at all worried that she might go into labour on set, sure I'm a father-of-four myself, so I'm pretty experienced when it comes to the delivery of babies.' It comes after Lucy accidentally revealed on her social media that Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Caitlyn Jenner, 75, will be taking part on the show. The Sunday World previously revealed Lucy posted a picture of a swimming pool on her Instagram stories, and a reverse image showed it was the star's Malibu home. Major Sky TV guide shake-up will see fan favourite channels swapped in HOURS with full week of changes revealed
Read on for tips on how to bag more Sky channels for free SKY SWAP Major Sky TV guide shake-up will see fan favourite channels swapped in HOURS with full week of changes revealed SKY customers are in line for more reshuffles to its channel guide, which will kick off in days. Whether you're watching on Sky+, Sky Q, or the newer Sky Glass and Stream, your usual favourites could be vanishing or taking on new identities in the blink of an eye. 1 August is a busy month for Sky TV customers This is just one of the changes expected by the TV giant over the next few weeks. On August 18, Sky Adventure will settle into its new role as Sky Family. And that's not all, on the same day, horror and sci-fi fanatics get a stellar treat as Sky Sci-Fi & Horror boldly goes where it's never gone before — rebranding as Sky Star Trek for a cosmic temporary change. Two days later, on August 20, music fans will notice a nostalgic twist — That's Summer gets turned up to eleven as it becomes That's Rock, and That's Dance trades in the club for a throwback as it transforms into That's Oldies. READ MORE ON SKY GOOD SPORT Ways to slash Sky & TNT Sports bills as Prem starts - & even bag EXTRA perks And then, in a flurry of final switches, August 22 will see Sky Animation martial arts-kick its way into becoming kungfupandaHD, and Sky Favourites goes full throttle with a turbo-charged new identity: Sky Fast. Lastly, Sky Star Trek ends its space voyage and reverts to Sky Sci-Fi & Horror, closing out a whirlwind month of switches, swaps, and surprises. The shifts started on August 1, when Sky Sports Action became SkySp Lions — a temporary roar for rugby fans on channel 412 for satellite viewers, and 410 for Glass users. The changes continued on August 2 when Sky Greats morphed into Sky Jaws for a sharp-toothed celebration of the classic shark saga. On August 4, Sky Antiheroes ditched its darker side and reverted back to Sky Hits HD. Meanwhile, Sky Schools Out got a fresh coat of paint as Sky Adventure, and Sky Jaws swam back to its original Sky Greats branding. This comes after we revealed the cheeky Sky customers can bag fresh telly on the cheap. There are three apps on your Sky TV that can give you extra telly to watch. You can find them right in the Apps & Inputs folder on your Home Screen. If you can't see them right away, you might need to scroll right to the end. First up is Xumo Play, which has over 75 channels available to watch for free. The catch is that you'll need to sit through ads – but that's the case with most Sky TV channels anyway. Load up the app and you'll be able to scroll through a special bonus TV guide with loads of channels. That includes a Xumo Movies channel (with some "originals), plus Sky Sports Classics, Dateline 24/7, and a Mythbusters channel. It also has loads of on-demand TV shows and movies too. It doesn't carry the big names you might find on Netflix or Disney+, but it's a great way to find a cheesy film for movie night. The second app worth taking a look at for free telly is called U. Its official description reads: "Whether you love documentaries, crave comedy or want to lose yourself in a great drama – whatever you want to watch, whenever you want to watch it." U is packed with on-demand content across for loads of different TV shows. For instance, you can watch The Office, Would I Lie To You?, I'm Alan Partridge, Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown, Doctor Foster, MasterChef Australia, Prison Break, and The Bill. It's all content from UKTV's free-to-air channels like U&Dave, U&Drama, U&W, and U&Yesterday. There's no subscription fee, but you will need to register for an account before you can watch any telly.
