Army To Sponsor Education Of Boy Who Gave Meals To Troops During Operation Sindoor
The Indian Army on Sunday said it will bear the study expenses of a ten-year-old boy, who supplied little meals to soldiers battling gunfight in a Punjab village during Operation Sindoor.
Shvan Singh, earlier reported as 'Svarn' Singh, had run errands for the soldiers posted in Tara Wali village.
As firing went underway, Singh took water, ice, tea, milk, and lassi to soldiers as they exchanged fire with the Pakistan Army.
In recognition of the boy's courage and enthusiasm, the Indian Army's Golden Arrow Division has committed to fully sponsor Shvan's education.
During a ceremony at Ferozepur Cantonment on Saturday, Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, also felicitated the boy.
The army said Shvan's story serves as a reminder of the "quiet heroes" across the country who deserve recognition and support.
Shvan, whose village lies in Mamdot area of Ferozepur district, had earlier said he too wants to join the army when he grows up.
"I want to become a 'fauji' when I grow up. I want to serve the country," the boy had said in May.
His father had then said, "We are proud of him. Even soldiers loved him." He said the class 4 student supplied the ration on his own without anyone asking him to do it.
Tara Wali village is around 2 km from the international border.
Under Operation Sindoor, the Indian armed forces carried out pre-dawn missile strikes on May 7 on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
The targets included the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base in Muridke.
The operation was launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
Following the Indian action, Pakistan launched an offensive against Indian military bases and resorted to shelling the border areas for the next three days.

At the customary meeting ahead of the session beginning Monday, the opposition raised various issues, including voter roll revision in Bihar, the Pahalgam terror attack and Trump's 'ceasefire' claims. The government sought coordination with the opposition in the smooth running of the month-long session. There should be govt-opposition coordination in running Parliament smoothly, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters after the meeting. He said the government will respond appropriately in Parliament on opposition raising the issue of Trump's claims on Operation Sindoor. The government, he emphasised, is open to discussing all issues in Parliament in line with rules and traditions and asserted that the government was very much open to discussing important issues like Operation Sindoor. Meanwhile, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, following an all-party meeting on Sunday, called on both the ruling and Opposition parties to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament. According to a release by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the meeting was attended by 54 Leaders from 40 political parties, including Ministers. Another contentious issue expected to take centre stage is the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Moreover, the fatal Air India Ahmedabad crash led to the death of at least 274 people, including the passengers and the individuals on the ground. Opposition leaders have made it clear that they will not hold back from raising sensitive national issues. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the session before it officially begins. Additionally, Parliament is expected to debate a proposal for the removal of a High Court judge. Both Houses (Upper and Lower) will be adjourned on August 12, 2025, to reassemble on Monday, August 18, 2025, to facilitate Independence Day Celebrations.
