Tuum selected by Uptex Bank to power e-banking expansion in Middle East and Africa
Following the recent acquisition of its e-banking license, OBD is launching Uptex Bank, a suite of digital wallet and payment services designed to unify its growing financial ecosystem. This includes Uptex Broker, a forex and CFD broker in MEA, and Rizzbees, its EU-licensed Crypto Exchange Platform. The new proposition will run on Tuum's modular, cloud-native core, deployed via AWS in Europe and purpose-built for scalability, compliance, and rapid go-to-market.
Uptex Bank was looking for a partner who could help them deliver a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) in a very short timeframe without compromising on scale or regulatory readiness. Tuum's approach as a true partner, rather than a vendor, was key to making this possible.
'We're building a unique e-money proposition that brings together traditional and next-gen financial services into one seamless ecosystem,' said Archie Sol, Chief Marketing Officer. ' Tuum stood out as the platform to help us achieve this vision. From their sleek technology to the responsiveness of their team, it was clear that they're not just a vendor—they're a partner. With Tuum, we're not only launching fast, we're building for scale. Uptex Bank is built for people tired of the old way banks treat them. From Gen Z and digital-first users to everyday customers seeking something faster, fairer, and more intuitive. With Tuum's flexible, API-first platform, we're creating a banking experience that's modern, human, and built for how people live now, not how banks used to operate.'
Crucially, Tuum's API-first infrastructure allows Uptex Bank to seamlessly integrate its new e-banking services with its existing brokerage and crypto exchange, enabling a unified, interoperable financial environment across its brands. The solution is fully aligned with Oman's regulatory framework, including requirements from the Central Bank of Oman and the Capital Market Authority. Tuum's technology will also enable OBD to support digital wallets and multi-currency payments (USD, EUR, GBP, AED, OMR, SAR) from day one.
The group expects to onboard more than 50,000 users in its first year, with millions of transactions anticipated across its fintech portfolio.
Uptex Bank selected Tuum through a competitive process, with speed, scalability, and regulatory readiness emerging as key differentiators. With an MVP launch planned within months, Tuum's ability to move fast while delivering enterprise-grade control gave Uptex Bank the confidence to move forward. Beyond the core platform, Tuum also worked closely with Uptex Bank to bring together the right ecosystem partners for the initiative ensuring each aligned with Uptex Bank's specific use cases and business model.
'This is a landmark win for Tuum,' said Miljan Stamenkovic, Chief Revenue Officer at Tuum. ' It shows the rising demand for modern, modular core banking platforms in the Middle East. OBD is building an ambitious and truly differentiated proposition in Oman and we're proud to provide the infrastructure behind it.'

UAE: Golden Visa professionals set to drive Dubai property market, says Danube chief
UAE professionals holding a 10-year Golden Visa will be among the key drivers of Dubai's property market in the coming years, according to Rizwan Sajan, chairman of Danube Properties. 'Many medical professionals in the UAE have either received or qualify for the Golden Visa,' Sajan told Khaleej Times. "As a result, many are choosing to invest in Dubai property and remain in the country, both for their careers and retirement. This makes investing in Dubai real estate a logical decision for them,' he added. Sajan, an industry veteran, spoke during a recent open day event for doctors and healthcare professionals in the UAE, which featured a discounted payment plan for attendees. Introduced after the Covid-19 pandemic, the UAE has been offering a Golden Visa to healthcare professionals. According to Abu Dhabi's Department of Economic Development, applicants should have a minimum of 5 years' experience in the UAE, valid practicing licence, and a bachelor's degree or equivalent. In addition, professionals working in science and research, IT, engineering, education, and other skilled fields are eligible for a 10-year residency permit. The Golden Visa scheme has seen growing demand since its launch in 2019, offering long-term stability for expat residents and investors who wish to live, work, and retire in the UAE. The latest figures released by the authorities in Dubai showed that the number of Golden Visas issued in all categories reached 158,000 in 2023, up from 79,617 in the previous year. Rally to continue The Dubai-based billionaire remains optimistic about the local property market and expects prices continue to rise over the next few years, provided there are no geopolitical tensions in the region. He added that buyers are unlikely to find current property prices in Dubai after two years, as values are expected to appreciate. 'I believe prices will rise as the influx of people to Dubai continues to grow. The upcoming integrated gaming resort at Al Marjan in Ras Al Khaimah will also be a significant development for the local property and hospitality markets,' he said. He added that, barring any geopolitical issues, Dubai property prices are likely to trend upward over the next four to five years. 'Prices in central areas like Downtown, Business, Al Furjan, Silicon Oasis, Sports City, all the centrally located places will go up and up. Plots that we bought two years ago cost four times more. Similarly, construction companies are paying up to 60 per cent higher prices because of the rising cost of construction material.' Sajan predicts annual property price increases of 15–20 per cent over the next four to five years in key areas such as Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Al Furjan, Silicon Oasis, and Dubai Sports City. He also noted that land purchased two years ago is now worth four times more, and construction costs have surged by up to 60 per cent due to "the rising cost of construction material". 'All the projects that we launched over the last 2-3 years in JVC, Silicon Oasis, and other communities have seen 25-35 per cent capital appreciation. The prices that are available today will definitely not be the same rate in 2-3 years as they will appreciate,' he said.

Joby Aviation completes first piloted eVTOL flight, eyes Dubai launch
Video credit: Joby Aviation Joby Aviation announced an industry-first: completing a piloted test flight between two public airports in the U.S., from Marina (OAR) to Monterey (MRY). This milestone is a strong signal of Joby's commercial market readiness, showcasing operational capabilities that will be core to Joby's planned Dubai launch in 2026. The achievement highlights Joby's ability to operate in real-world conditions, integrating with existing airport infrastructure and air traffic control, all key steps in preparing for passenger service in Dubai. FAA-controlled airspace : Joby successfully navigated alongside other aircraft, travelling 10 miles in 12 minutes, including a five-minute holding pattern at MRY for air traffic sequencing. Real-world demos : This point-to-point airport operation mirrors the service model Joby will bring to Dubai, offering fast, efficient, and sustainable urban connections. Mature flight test programme : The milestone builds on more than 40,000 miles of real-world test flights across four countries, underscoring the maturity of Joby's development. Joby Aviation, a developer of all-electric air taxis for commercial passenger service, said the Marina-to-Monterey flight also represents significant progress across safety, operations, certification, and integration with air traffic control systems. The piloted flight featured vertical takeoff, transition to wingborne flight, controlled airspace integration, and vertical landing. It also marked the first time a piloted electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft has flown between two public airports, while successfully demonstrating Joby's ability to conduct mobile testing and provide ground support away from its home base in Marina. Read: 'Successfully flying from Marina to Monterey showcased operations of our aircraft integrated in the broader transportation network and further validated its performance to ensure we're prepared for service on day one,' said Didier Papadopoulos, President of Aircraft OEM at Joby. 'For years, our flight testing has validated our aircraft's capabilities, and we've done this across a wide range of environmental conditions. As part of the natural progression of our flight test programme, it was time to venture further, and there was no better place to visit first than our neighbors in Monterey.' The test flights also generated developmental data on the human factors of operating at controlled airports and in national airspace. At Monterey, Joby's aircraft sequenced with other air traffic, including entering a holding pattern to accommodate an arriving airliner. The demonstration showed Joby's adherence to FAA protocols, similar to those followed by commercial airlines—an essential element of the certification process, as the FAA requires proof that new aircraft can operate safely in shared airspace across multiple airports. Video of the flight demonstration can be seen below: The achievement follows Joby's planned acquisition of Blade Air Mobility's passenger business, further underlining its commercial readiness. To date, Joby has flown more than 40,000 miles across its test fleet and has begun final assembly of its first aircraft intended for Type Inspection Authorisation flight testing, one of the final steps before FAA certification. Test flights with FAA pilots are expected early next year, ahead of plans to launch commercial service in Los Angeles and New York City.
