NTPC Simhadri celebrates ‘28th Raising Day'
At the commemoration of NTPC Simhadri's 28th Raising Day, Sharma elaborated about the first coastal-based power plant's journey since its establishment in 1997.
He congratulated the employees for their continued efforts, lauded the station's performance in FY 2024–25, and called for collective dedication to achieve the milestones set for the current fiscal year.
The celebration included distribution of prizes to winners who took part in recent campaigns and competitions, including Swachhata Pakhwada, World Environment Day and International Yoga Day.
The occasion was marked by a flag-hoisting ceremony in the presence of senior officials of the organisation.

Industry welcomes India-UK trade pact
Ludhiana: The recently signed India-UK FTA, officially known as the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), has been welcomed as a transformative development for Punjab's industrial landscape by key industry leaders in the region. Upkar Singh Ahuja, president of the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings, said, "This agreement is a transformative opportunity for Punjab's industrial and economic landscape." He emphasised that it will allow Punjab-based exporters to gain a competitive edge through reduced tariffs and improved market access, leading to a significant increase in exports. "It paves the way for technology exchange, skill development, and joint ventures, particularly MSMEs," he said. Echoing similar sentiments, Pankaj Sharma, president of the Association of Trade & Industrial Undertakings, hailed the pact as a "historic development" that will reshape India-UK trade relations over the next five years. "This landmark pact will double India-UK trade by eliminating tariffs on 99% of Indian exports," Sharma said, adding that labour-intensive sectors such as textiles, garments, footwear, and jewellery would gain the most. Pointing out the implications for Punjab specifically, Sharma said cities like Ludhiana, home to a vast network of textile and hosiery units, and Jalandhar renowned for its sports goods industry, stand to benefit directly. "Zero tariffs on textile exports will allow our manufacturers to compete on equal footing with countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Cambodia," he added. The agreement also grants tariff exemptions on exports of basmati rice, fruits, and cotton, major agricultural commodities from Punjab, thus promising a boost for farmers and agro-industries. Sharma further added that the FTA would open up new horizons for young entrepreneurs, especially those working in emerging sectors and advanced manufacturing technologies. Pvt buses off roads in protest against Heerapura terminal
1 2 Jaipur: Nearly 1000 private buses went off roads Sunday in protest against the govt's directive to start operations from Heerapura Bus Terminal from Aug 1. Private bus operators said they were being asked to shift without facilities being developed at the terminal. All Rajasthan Contract Carriage Bus Operator Association said the protest will continue indefinitely. Rajendra Sharma, president of the association, said, "There are no proper facilities for passengers at the Heerapura terminal but bus operators are being asked to shift there. Passengers would give bad reviews for the bus service, which will affect our business." Sharma said operators have stopped online bookings for private buses on major routes like Delhi, Ahmedabad, Indore, Bhopal, and Surat. Some passengers who booked buses for cities like Delhi and Dehradun said that bus operators called them to inform that the buses had been cancelled. "Our buses were cancelled at the last moment, and when we tried to book private cabs to Delhi, drivers were quoting up to Rs 20,000," said a passenger who was scheduled to travel to Dehradun. Officials said talks will be held with private bus operators to find a solution. On Saturday, TOI reported that at Heerapura terminal, construction of roads leading to the bus bays and parking bays from the exit and entry gates is yet to be done. However, work on the bus shed inside the terminal is almost complete, along with the setting up of ticket counters.

Robust industrial base key to economic development: Collector
Anantapur: Establishing a robust industrial base across the district is essential for achieving sustainable economic development, said Anantapur in-charge District Collector Shiv Narayan Sharma. He made these remarks during the 60th District Industries and Export Promotion Committee (DIEPC) meeting held on Friday at the mini conference hall of the District Collectorate. Addressing the officials, the Collector emphasised the need to strengthen the industrial sector and directed authorities to take proactive measures. He stressed the importance of encouraging enthusiastic entrepreneurs by ensuring timely approvals through the Single Desk Portal. He further instructed officials to create awareness among industrialists about various schemes implemented by both the Central and State governments. Collector Sharma revealed that since the previous meeting, a total of 224 aspiring entrepreneurs have applied through the Single Window system, out of which 25 applications were approved. He instructed officials to promptly review and approve the remaining 16 pending applications as well. He urged concerned departments to ensure all permissions through the portal are granted within the stipulated time frame. The committee also approved a subsidy of Rs 230.54 lakh under the 2020–23 and 2023–27 industrial policies for 13 units. During the meeting, success stories of entrepreneurs who benefited from the PMEGP (Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme) and have successfully established their ventures were compiled and presented to the Collector by the District Industries Department. Expressing satisfaction, the Collector appreciated these achievements. He also directed the APIIC Zonal Manager to identify suitable land for setting up an MSME Park in the district. Furthermore, he instructed officials to expedite efforts to establish the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub, which is expected to provide technology transfer and skill training to youth, thereby generating employment opportunities. The meeting was attended by District Industries Officer Srinivas Yadav, AD Rajasekhar Reddy, Commercial Officer Krishna Reddy, RTO Veerraju, APIIC Manager Mallikarjun, DSDO Pratap Reddy and other key officials.
