New Delhi: The tour of England has been very good so far for Indian star opener KL Rahul. He is scoring runs in almost every match. Something similar was seen in the Manchester Test as well. After scoring 46 runs in the first innings of this match, he continued his form in the second innings as well. In the second innings, the Indian team lost 2 wickets without opening the account. After this, Rahul handled the innings and once again crossed the 50-run mark. During this match, he made a big record in his name. What record did KL Rahul achieve?
KL Rahul did a feat during this match, which only Sunil Gavaskar could do before this. During this match, Rahul completed 1000 runs as an opener while playing Test cricket in England. Let us tell you, he is only the second Asian opener who has scored 1000 Test runs in England. KL Rahul has done this feat in just 24 innings in the difficult conditions of England. Whereas Gavaskar had 1152 runs in 28 innings. Apart from these two players, no Asian opener has been able to do this feat in England. Who are the other players in the list?
After Gavaskar and KL Rahul, Vijay Merchant and Sadiq Mohammad are the next Asian openers to score the most runs in England. Vijay Merchant scored 527 runs in 11 innings and Sadiq Mohammad scored 522 runs in 15 innings. However, Rahul has set a new benchmark by leaving these legends behind with his consistent good innings. KL Rahul now has a great chance to leave Sunil Gavaskar behind in this list. How is KL Rahul's performance in the series?
This series has been quite memorable for KL Rahul so far. Playing as an opener, he has scored runs in every match. In the first match of the series, he scored 42 runs and 137 runs. At the same time, he scored 2 runs and 55 runs in the second match. Then in the third Test, he played innings of 100 runs and 39 runs. Now in the Manchester Test too, he has played an important innings for the team.

'When we were having a look at the wicket, they sent a man to tell us to stay 2.5 metres away from the pitch. We were wearing joggers," Kotak said on Tuesday. 'You can be protective about the square, but not arrogant. It's not an antique that you can't touch." Kotak also pointed out that Fortis was guilty of yelling at Indian staff for carrying an ice box near the square. 'He yelled at the Indian support staff when they were getting ice box, it hardly weighs 10 kgs. The way he spoke it was a bit arrogant.' As a result of Fortis' high-handed behaviour, when pictures of him standing on the pitch with England coach Brendon McCullum are already out there, Gambhir lost his cool and asked the curator to stick to his job. 'Ok, you don't tell any of us what we need to do. You don't tell us. You don't have any right to tell us. You don't have any right to tell us what we need to do, ok? IND vs ENG: 'Play only continued for some personal gain' - Dale Steyn on India refusing to Ben Stokes' draw offer

India batters Ravindra Jadeja eats a banana as England captain Ben Stokes walks away (Photo by) The dramatic conclusion of the Manchester Test between India and England may have ended in a draw, but controversy continues to swirl around the final-day events. The focal point of the debate is England captain Ben Stokes ' offer to end the game early, and India's decision, led by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja , to play on. Former South African pacer Dale Steyn didn't mince words, criticising India's move to reject the early draw. 'Play only continued for some personal gain,' Steyn wrote on X (formerly Twitter), after Jadeja and other Indian batters continued to bat even after the draw was virtually sealed. The debate was ignited when current South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi defended India's choice, posting: 'Why is there such a big deal being made about the Indians choosing not to accept the offer to end the game in a draw immediately? … They got their 100s, which they worked hard for. Game over.' Steyn countered strongly: 'Shamo this onion has many layers... Once [a draw] was accomplished...a handshake was offered, that's the gentlemanly thing to do right? … Now say no, we'd prefer some free milestones... although within the rules, just seems a little, well, odd.' India stay alive, England frustrated after draw; handshake drama at Old Trafford and more Shamsi doubled down: 'Just because the option for the draw was given it doesn't mean the other team has to take it. If you wanna call the shots about how long I can bat ...get me out!' Steyn wrapped it up with a mix of humour and clarity: 'The game was Eng going for a win, India going for a draw… That final hour isn't reserved for personal goals. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo As they say, there's no 'I' in team… That said, if it were you and me batting on 90 each, it would take a tank to pull us off that field! Haha.' A fan jumped in, pointing out Steyn's past support for Wiaan Mulder, who once declared on 367* when just 33 runs away from a rare 400 in a Test against Zimbabwe. 'Is this you? Mulder's 400 wouldn't have hurt SA even though Zim hadn't batted even once at that point but Indians batting 15 min extra in a drawn Test is problem," the fan wrote, accusing Steyn of double standards. But Steyn hit back: 'Firstly, Mulder didn't go for the personal milestone… Secondly, if he did, it would have happened while all RESULTS were still possible… unlike this case where the GAME was effectively over and play only continued for some personal gain.' The final Test of the series begins July 31, and it's clear that the tension isn't just between bat and ball, it's between principles and perspectives too. 'Are We Still In Colonial Era?': Irfan Pathan Questions Double-Standards After Gautam Gambhir's Heated Exchange With Curator

There has been another controversy in India's ongoing England tour with Gautam Gambhir clashing with Surrey's head of ground staff. India head coach Gautam Gambhir was involved in a heated confrontation with the head of Surrey ground staff Lee Fortis during his team's training session at The Oval ahead of the fifth Test against England that starts from Thursday. According to India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, Gambhir took exception at being told to stay 2.5 meters away while he was inspecting the pitch on which the final match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will be played. Coaches and captains generally take a look at the pitch in the days leading up to a Test to fine-tune their plans and team combinations. Irfan Pathan has questioned why an English coach is allowed to stand on the pitch but not an Indian. 'So an English coach can walk onto the pitch to inspect it? but an Indian coach can't? Are we still stuck in the colonial era?" Pathan posted on X (formerly Twitter). So an English coach can walk onto the pitch to inspect it? but an Indian coach can't? Are we still stuck in the colonial era?— Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan) July 29, 2025 In a video on his YouTube channel, Pathan explained the 'unnecessary controversy" which he feels has been created to take the focus away from India's performance. Pathan said Gambhir was wearing shoes with rubber-spikes while inspecting which doesn't impact the pitch as opposed to steel-spikes. 'This curator has a history of being rude," Pathan said. 'There are several instances of him being behaving in such a way with overseas teams' captains and coaches. This isn't the first time. The process of Gambhir being villainised has been going on in the media for a long time now." 'We end up laying red carpet for the visiting teams in India. When we go overseas, we follow the rules and it's something nobody should have a problem with. There's a photo on Twitter of the same curator standing with Brendon McCullum (England coach) on the same pitch two days before a match. Gambhir also went two days before. How can you then deny him? England's coach is allowed but not Indian. It feels we are still living in the 1947 era. I cannot accept this (double-standard). 'If you won't get to inspect the pitch, how will you plan for the game? You have to get a feel of the pitch by touching it – how hard it is, is there moisture in it? You can't have that by staring from 2.5 meters. This was an unnecessary controversy," he added. Why Gambhir Lashed Out At Curator? Kotak, during a media interaction revealed what triggered Gambhir's rant. Incredible footage of a furious Gautam Gambhir involved in a heated exchange with head groundsman of The Oval ahead of 5th Test between India and England — News18 CricketNext (@cricketnext) July 29, 2025 'When we were standing on the wicket looking at it, one of the ground staff came and said to stand two and half metres away from here. In my cricketing career I have never seen anybody saying that," said Kotak. 'Literally he was saying that 'you can go outside the rope' to the head coach and see the wicket. I don't know how you can see. If someone was brushing their shoes, or somebody is trying to put something on the wicket or somebody wearing spikes – if the curator feels that then fine – but it was a very strange way of saying it. 'Curators are a little over-protective or possessive about the square and the ground. [They] need to understand that the people they are talking to are highly skilled and intelligent people. When you are working with very intelligent and highly skilled people, if you sound a bit arrogant, you can be protective – but at the end of the day it's a cricket pitch. It's not an antique that you can't touch because it's 200 years old and it can be broken. That's what I feel," he added. Get latest Cricket news, live score and match results on News18.
