Bobby Deol shares his experience working with Thalapathy Vijay in Jana Nayagan, rumoured to be Vijay's final movie before politics.
Bollywood actor Bobby Deol is set to share the screen with Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay in the upcoming political action drama Jana Nayagan. In a recent interview with Faridoon Shahryar on YouTube, the Animal star opened up about his experience working in South Indian cinema, his admiration for Vijay, and his earlier collaborations with regional stars.
'It's His Last Film" — Bobby on Vijay's Political Plans
Speaking about Jana Nayagan, Bobby revealed that the film is expected to hit theatres during Pongal 2026 and may mark Vijay's final outing before stepping into politics. 'I am doing a film with Vijay Thalapathy. It is gonna be released on Pongal. It's his last film because he's going to join politics — that is what he is saying," Bobby shared.
Calling Vijay a 'massive star," Bobby recounted how the production team had to limit outdoor shoots to avoid overwhelming crowds. 'I initially asked the team where we would be shooting. However, they told me we'll mainly have to shoot within studios because if Thalapathy Vijay sir goes out, people gather around, and we won't be able to work. He is that big of a star," he said.
Memories of Working with NBK and Suriya
During the conversation, Bobby also reflected on his previous experiences in South Indian films, including his work with Nandamuri Balakrishna and Suriya. 'It was great working with Bala sir. He is a star of the masses — that's his title. Over there, everyone has something like this to their name. He is a great person to work with," Bobby said of NBK.
He then addressed his role in Kanguva, which starred Suriya, admitting the project did not meet expectations. 'I did Kanguva, which did not do well. However, I always want to do a movie with Suriya… he is a great actor, but the script went wrong," he candidly stated.
About Jana Nayagan
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is rumoured to feature Vijay as a former police officer drawn into a high-stakes political battle. Alongside Vijay and Bobby Deol, the cast includes Pooja Hegde, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, and Mamitha Baiju in pivotal roles.
The film is slated for a January 9, 2026 release, strategically timed ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. While speculation remains that this could be Vijay's swansong before entering politics, his co-star Mamitha Baiju recently suggested that his political plans may hinge on the election outcome.
With a powerful ensemble cast, a politically charged storyline, and the pairing of Bobby Deol with Thalapathy Vijay for the first time, Jana Nayagan is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about releases of 2026.

So far, the film has minted more than ₹ 4 crore already in advance booking. According to by 10.30 pm Sunday, the advance booking figure has crossed ₹ 4.24 crore. The figures are for about 9000 shows in Hindi (2D, IMAX, DOLBY, 4DX and other formats), 100 for Tamil and 115 for Telugu. Although the movie will see a limited release in the Southern belt — Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Pondicherry- the film will be available in 2 other languages besides Hindi — Telugu and Tamil. Made on a budget of 400 crores, according to Bollywood Hungama, the costliest Spy film in India is expected to emerge as one of the biggest openers of the year. Though the numbers appear promising, War 2 is going to clash with Rajinikanth's Coolie, which releases on the same day. On Sunday, YRF declared advanced booking open on Sunday with special video. The caption on Instagram read, 'Are you ready to witness the CARNAGE in cinemas from August 14th? BOOK TICKETS NOW for #War2 and let us give you an experience to cherish for the rest of your lives 🔥🔥 Releasing in Hindi, Telugu & Tamil in theatres worldwide.' Directed by Ayan Mukherji and the latest in the YRF Spy Universe, War 2 brings back Hrithik as rogue R&AW agent, Kabir. He is faced with a new villain this time, played by Jr NTR. War 2 advance booking finally kicks off in India, crosses ₹2 crore in a day despite few Telugu shows

Hrithik Roshan took to social media on Sunday to announce War 2 advance bookings finally open in India. So far, the film has minted more than ₹2 crore already, despite some challenges. The film releases on Thursday, August 14. Hrithik Roshan stars with Jr NTR in War 2. A positive prediction for War 2 As per by 9pm Sunday, the advance booking figure has crossed ₹2.24 crore. The figures are for about 9000 shows in Hindi (2D, IMAX, DOLBY, 4DX and other formats), 100 for Tamil and 115 for Telugu. The Telugu shows are less than expected, considering the film also stars a popular Telugu actor, Jr NTR. While the numbers seem promising, War 2 will also have to fight a giant to grab more eyes in theatres. The giant is Rajinikanth's Coolie, which also releases on the same day. Sacnilk report also mentioned that with 'block seats', the number is close to ₹7.6 crore. Block seats are usually reserved by theatres for spot booking and/or studios as part of special schemes or in-house promotions. YRF declared advanced booking open on Sunday with special video. The caption on Instagram read, "Are you ready to witness the CARNAGE in cinemas from August 14th? BOOK TICKETS NOW for #War2 and let us give you an experience to cherish for the rest of your lives 🔥🔥 Releasing in Hindi, Telugu & Tamil in theatres worldwide." Earlier last week, international advance booking also opened for War 2, however, the response there was not so warm. A day after US pre-sales for War 2 opened, the Telugu version showed some momentum, but the Hindi release was struggling. Data from major ticketing platforms indicates that most large theatres screening the Hindi version for Wednesday premieres haven't sold a single ticket. Trade sources say YRF is releasing the Hindi version in 900 US screens for paid previews, yet as of last Sunday morning, only about 1,600 tickets had been sold, leaving many auditoriums almost empty. About War 2 War 2 brings back Hrithik as rogue R&AW agent, Kabir. He is faced with a new villain this time, played by Jr NTR. His love interest has also switched this time from Vaani Kapoor to Kiara Advani. On working with Jr NTR for the first time, Hrithik said, 'I see a lot of myself in Tarak. We have had very similar journeys for 25 years now, and I think Tarak sees a little bit of himself in me also. It is true when they say that he is a one-take final-take star. On set, Tarak, I have not just observed you, but I have learnt from you. I have learnt how to go into a shot 100% — not 99.99%, not 99.999, but 100%. Which is why when he comes out of a shot, there is no judgement on me. He will not even check the shot because he knows he has given everything to it. And I will apply that in my future films. Tarak, thank you for teaching me that.' The film is directed by Ayan Mukherji and is the latest in the YRF Spy Universe, after Tiger movies with Salman Khan, War with Hrithik and Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan. Alpha, with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari is also in the pipeline.
