Belgium Talent Chief Fired After Talbi Chose Morocco

Morocco World07-03-2025

Chemsdine Talbi has turned his back on Belgium to play for Morocco after tabling an official request to change his football nationality. Belgium were left reeling following the decision of the budding star which has piled pressure on football bosses in the country to keep hold of dual-nationality talents.
Kevin Vermeulen, Belgium's Head of Talent, has been shown the door as a result of this decision, and amid a major shake-up to the department. Vermeulen, who worked with Talbi at RSC Anderlecht, had tried to lure him to the club but played no part in his final to ditch Belgium.
Sports director Vincent Mannaert didn't hide his frustration. 'From now on, we move forward with players who fully commit to Belgium,' he said. 'If they choose elsewhere, fine — but we won't waste time chasing them.'
Talbi picked Morocco for showing unwavering support during his injury woes – while Belgium dragged its feet. Insiders say Morocco's thrilling World Cup run and their fierce loyalty to players sealed the deal for him.
The blow comes just days after Kos Karetsas chose Greece over Belgium.
Talbi can play both as a left and right winger. Even though he is right-footed, he can shoot well with his left foot like the goal he scored in the UEFA Champions League play-offs against Atalanta.
The 19-year-old FC has blistering speed and a direct attacking play – quite similar to Hakimi at the front. He is expected to join the Moroccan national team very soon for the World Cup qualifiers and friendly games.

Hakimi's PSG Cruise Past Atletico in Club World Cup Opener

Achraf Hakimi quietly stole the show as Paris Saint-Germain kicked off their FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a commanding 4–0 win over Atletico Madrid at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The Moroccan full-back didn't get on the scoresheet, but his influence was all over the pitch. Hakimi was calm, composed, and constantly pushing forward, giving Atletico all sorts of problems down the right. His runs opened up space for PSG's midfielders to do the damage – and they certainly did. Fabian Ruiz got things going with a low strike into the bottom corner before Vitinha added a second just before half-time, calmly finishing off a brilliant counter-attack that started with Donnarumma. The second half was just as one-sided. Atletico went down to ten men when Clément Lenglet picked up a second yellow for dissent, and from there, Hakimi's teammates didn't let up. Senny Mayulu came off the bench and made it three, before Lee Kang-in wrapped it up with a penalty in stoppage time after a VAR check for handball. It was a convincing win from a team that's been flying since the turn of the year – PSG have scored over 100 goals in all competitions since January. One thing that couldn't be ignored was the heat. With a midday kick-off and temperatures hitting 31°C, players were clearly feeling it. Cooling breaks were needed in both halves, and several looked completely drained by full-time. Even Vitinha, named man of the match, called the conditions 'difficult,' and Luis Enrique admitted it definitely affected the game. Meanwhile… Bayern go goal crazy Earlier in the day, Bayern Munich ran riot in Cincinnati, hammering Auckland City 10–0. Jamal Musiala came off the bench and bagged a hat-trick, while Thomas Müller, Kingsley Coman, and Michael Olise all scored twice. It was total domination from start to finish. Auckland, a semi-pro side, simply couldn't cope. Forward Angus Kilkolly summed it up best: 'We tried our very hardest to keep them out, but the goals just kept coming.' How Much Was French Montana Paid for Club World Cup Opening Ceremony?

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup opened in Miami with fireworks, choreography and a music show from French Montana. The Moroccan rapper took centre stage at Hard Rock Stadium, joining Swae Lee to deliver their global hit Unforgettable . The pair headlined a lively opening ceremony, setting the tone for FIFA's first-ever expanded 32-team club tournament. FIFA hasn't confirmed what it paid for the star-studded show, but industry sources suggest French Montana could have earned up to $2 million for the night – a figure in line with what artists like Shakira and Jennifer Lopez reportedly made for previous FIFA events. That fee would typically cover rehearsals, live performance, and rights to use the artist's image across international broadcasts. With sponsors on board and millions watching worldwide, the event was bound to carry a hefty production bill. The ceremony featured multiple acts, including Vikina and Richaelio, and concluded with fireworks and large-scale visuals. Students from Miami Dade College paraded badges of all 32 competing clubs, forming the letters 'FIFA' at the centre of the pitch, while players were introduced individually before kick-off between Inter Miami and Egypt's Al Ahly. Much of the crowd wore 'Messi 10' shirts in Inter Miami's distinctive pink and black colours, and chants of 'Messi, Messi, Messi' echoed throughout the stadium, reminiscent of Argentina's World Cup triumph in Qatar three years ago. FIFA president Gianni Infantino had promised a 'full stadium' and 'incredible atmosphere,' but several empty green seats remained visible despite the announced attendance falling just short of the venue's 65,000 capacity. Infantino was joined in the stands by Brazil's Ronaldo and Italy's Roberto Baggio. Lionel Messi came close to scoring on several occasions, including a bending free-kick that rippled the side netting and had fans momentarily convinced it had gone in. However, Inter Miami were held to a frustrating nil-nil draw in what many considered their most winnable group match. They now face Portuguese side Porto on Thursday in a tougher challenge. Manager Javier Mascherano said the team must 'take it game by game,' adding, 'When we find Leo in the right positions, we create the best chances. Anything can happen in football.' PSG vs Atletico Madrid: When, Where & Score Prediction

Rabat – PSG will go against Atletico Madrid in the Club World Cup for their first match since lifting the Champions League. Kick-off is at 8 p.m. Moroccan time (GMT+1) at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California , and fans can catch the action live on BeIN Sports and TF1 Luis Enrique's men have already departed for the United States on June 10 and are currently in Los Angeles preparing for the game. Two of his players have been injured: Bradley Barcola with a knee injury and Ousmane Dembélé with a hip injury. Atletico Madrid could have an advantage when it comes to player availability since there are no injuries reported and coach Diego Simeone is expecting eight of his international players—Julian Alvarez, Rodrigo de Paul, Giuliano Simeone, Nahuel Molina, Angel Correa, Jose Maria Gimenez, Alexander Sorloth, and Reinildo Mandava—to join the squad in Los Angeles. This first-ever 32-team Club World Cup is Atletico Madrid's last chance to salvage their season with a trophy. PSG, on the other hand, are favourites to lift their fifth title this season – after winning the Ligue 1 championship, Coupe de France, French Supercup, and the UEFA Champions League. Based on their three previous meetings, there is little that separates both sides. This will be the first clash between the European clubs since Atletico recorded a 2-1 win in the Champions League last November. Predicted lineups Atletico Madrid: Oblak; Molina, Witsel, Gimenez, Reinildo; De Paul, Koke, Barrios, Lino; Alvarez, Griezmann. PSG : Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Zair-Emery, Vitinha, Neves; Ramos, Asensio, Doue. Score Predictions Even if PSG's Ballon d'Or contender Ousmane Dembélé's presence during this game is uncertain due to a hip injury, MWN thinks that PSG will win 2-1.
