Ronnie O'Sullivan gives concerning interview after World Championship win - 'It's horrible'
Ronnie O'Sullivan sealed his place in the World Championship quarter-final - but is far from happy.
O'Sullivan rifled in a break of 95 to complete his victory over Pang Junxu 13-4 on Monday night, needing just 17 minutes of the evening session to win the single frame he needed to make the last eight. However, the seven-time world champ admitted he feels 'horrible' at the table right now and was extremely downbeat post match.
Rating his form as 'probably two out of 10', O'Sullivan, who will face another Chinese opponent, Si Jiahui, in the last eight said: 'I wasn't bothered about getting it over quickly – I need all the table time I can get.
'I think I've dragged them (my opponents) down to a poorer level. I think they expected me to play better and were maybe shocked that I didn't, but I don't think Si will fall into that trap, and that's what makes him dangerous.'
O'Sullivan only decided to play against bitter rival Ali Carter the day before his Crucible opener but insists he is feeling 'so unconfident'.
And he insisted he's not having problems with a new cue, and that his issues are all stemming from himself.
Speaking to the BBC The Rocket said: "The [new] cue is fine – it's just me. I've given up even trying to find out what it is. You try so many things to work it out and you either have to accept it or not.
"I don't think I could've accepted how I was playing for a while. So I'm just going to try and coach my way out of it, give myself two years and just give it a good go.
"I feel so unconfident. It's like, horrible. It's horrible even when you're playing alright. I got messed up by a coach and I am just trying to unravel it but I just don't think I can.
"I know I'm probably not normal and have accepted that as well. If either player I played had played well I would have got beat because I've played poorly. They've let me off the hook. It's difficult. It's difficult.
"I hit a safety shot there in that frame and caught it so thick. I can't even see where I'm hitting it, it's just guesswork.
"Then I try it again and a different shot comes off. On the balls I was alright but there are so many parts to the game. It's hell to be honest. I just want to enjoy it. I don't care about winning – that's just a bonus.
"But I just want to be part of a good game."

Luca Brecel speaks out on health problems after Saudi Arabia Masters withdrawal
Former world champion Luca Brecel has spoken out on health problems that have prevented him from playing after withdrawing from the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters. The Belgian Bullet is yet to play this season after pulling out of qualifiers for the Wuhan Open and British Open, while also withdrawing from the Championship League. He was scheduled to play in the big-money Saudi Arabia Masters in Jeddah this weekend, but also withdrew from that event due to medical reasons. The 30-year-old had offered little update as to the reason for his absence, but has now aired his frustrations over the situation. The nature of the health issue has not been revealed, but it has prevented him travelling from his home in Belgium to play in tournaments. Brecel wrote on Instagram on Sunday evening: 'Hi everyone, some of you might have been wondering why I am not participating in snooker events since April. 'The truth is that I am suffering with health problems. 'Me and my team are doing everything we can to come out of this stronger and better than before. 'It's been really frustrating to not be able to travel and compete in tournaments! 'But… I always choose to be optimistic! Tough times often lead to something great!' Brecel last played in a World Championship quarter-final defeat to Judd Trump at the Crucible in April, having played brilliantly in Sheffield. The 2023 world champion was spectacularly good in his second round win over Ding Junhui and played well again in the last eight, only losing to a fantastic display from the world number one. After that 13-8 defeat, he said: 'I'm totally ok with it. Especially the way the game went from 8-8, he just had the momentum and I had no chance to win today, that makes it easy to accept. 'I've had a good tournament, played some good stuff so I'm quite happy. Obviously I wanted to win, get to the one-table set-up, but there's still many more years to come.' Having won the World Championship two years ago, defeat this year saw him slip down the rankings, out of the top 16 and he currently sits at number 39. Brecel was speaking positively about facing the challenge of qualifiers and performing away from the spotlight of the main TV table. 'There's also a good side, less travelling maybe, less extra tournaments so for me it's maybe better,' he said of no longer being in the top 16,' he said in Sheffield in April. 'I enjoy the qualifiers to be honest, I don't need to be on the TV table, I like being on the outside table as well. For me it's all about playing snooker.' Brecel's next opportunity to play, if his health issues allow him to, will come in qualifiers for the Xi'an Grand Prix and Northern Ireland Open in the first week of September in Leicester. Fans will be hoping he is back in action as soon as possible, mainly as they wish him well, but also as one of the sport's most thrilling performers when on form. As Brecel raced into a 7-1 lead over Ding at the Crucible, six-time world champion Steve Davis said on the BBC: 'We all have our favourites. Nobody left at TNT can rattle cages or set agendas like Rio Ferdinand
After a few weeks in which other sports had some time in the sun, big-time football has returned to dominate the TV landscape for the next 10 months or so. Sky Sports has increased its offering to at least 215 live Premier League games this coming season. TNT Sports, and parent company Warner Brothers Discovery, is also broadening its portfolio and it was TNT that had the chance to land an early blow this weekend before the Premier League coverage begins on Sky on Friday. With the BBC's first post-Gary Lineker Match of the Day coming this Saturday, the game is afoot for the sport's major broadcasters, and this column will have a look at all of them over the coming weeks. TNT had picked up the rights to the Community Shield, which has been on ITV in recent years: no longer a charity shield, nor free-to-air either. Suck it, Commies. These are the times we watch live sport in. Laura Woods helmed from Wembley and in the modern style, there was no studio, with all the broadcasting done on the pitch, or by the side of it. You need an exceptional live operator to pull it off, and Woods is certainly that. She had Steve McManaman and Ally McCoist with her on Sunday, both of whom were in jolly form, verging on the unruly. Macca was sporting an untucked blue office shirt, giving him the look of a work experience lad who isn't sure if this is all for him. He's 53 now but there is something of the sixth-form rebel about him that I personally find endearing. Macca began the broadcast in a pair of rather rum sunglasses but they were removed, presumably on instructions from Sir, because special guest Joel Ward also had shades on at first but took them off. It was for the best. TNT had announced the signing of Gareth Bale for their coverage this season; he had impressed bosses with his work on the Europa League final. Rio Ferdinand's departure leaves them possibly a bit short of heft. McManaman, Peter Crouch, Joe Cole and Owen Hargreaves are all likeable and have their qualities but none is an agenda-setter or a cage-rattler and Ferdinand, for his limitations, had some gravitas and an appetite for debate both on screen and in the important secondary theatre of social media. We'll have to see how Bale gets on but he doesn't immediately strike me as a sure-fire star player. Happy to be proved wrong. TNT, carrying on where BT Sport had left off, has now carved out an identity that is distinct from Sky's intense-men-arguing vibe and it works well, especially for lighter fare like sunny days at Wembley. Darren Fletcher was in cheerful mood, offering up the palindrome of 'Ekitike' to amuse or bamboozle McCoist. 'I'm aware what a palindrome is, now don't get carried away,' said the Scot. John Motson would have had Eberechi Eze and Romain Esse as well but Darren isn't one to push his luck. He rightly lamented the unpleasantness during the minute's silence for Diogo Jota: 'Why on earth there are a certain few inside the stadium who would spoil that moment is absolutely beyond me' but, unless I missed it, there was no mention of anything about the anthem booing. Was TNT playing it too safe? Elsewhere, there was a tremendous piece of buffoonery where Woods attempted a walk-and-talk and had to navigate McCoist and McManaman tripping over each other and giggling, before they all settled on a three-abreast stomp towards the camera with Woods in the middle. 'I feel like I am being escorted out by two bouncers, a familiar memory…' she said. Plenty of dressing-room insights and hugs with the players who were his comrades until just recently. He seems like a good egg and he looks the part. He has done one or two Palace matches on Sky and surely has a future in the punditry game should he wish to. Woods joked: 'He'll be taking my job.' That definitely isn't going to happen, but he seems like the sort of affable – perhaps slightly inoffensive? – type who would fit right in with the TNT ethos.
