Canfield swimming primed for podiums at State
CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – Canfield Swim and Dive team is searching for a second-consecutive year at the podium for this year's State Meet in Division II.
'Very emotional, this is the last time I'm going to be able to swim at the state competition,' said Canfield senior swimmer Hayden Price. 'I'm seeded really well. I'm trying to go for a top three placement.'
Price was the only Valley swimmer in the 2024 season to reach the podium. He placed fifth in the Boys 100-Yard Backstroke in Division II last season.
'You got to want it, it's how much you love this sport,' Price said. 'I have a deep passion for this. The grind never stops.'
Price individually will compete in the Boys 200-Yard IM and 100-Yard Backstroke.
In Boys Diving is senior Karsten Miller and in Girls, senior Fallon Amedia. Miller finished 32nd in the Boys 1-Meter Dive Tuesday night.
Amedia starts competition in Girls Dive on Wednesday morning.
Junior Jose Protain will compete in the Girls 200-Yard Freestyle and freshman Mathea Ronyak in the Girls 200-Yard IM.
Sophomore Lyla Gray, Ronyak and senior Katie Weibling will compete in the Girls 100-Yard Breaststroke.
Canfield, as a team, will compete in the Girls and Boys 200-yard Medley Relay and the Girls 200-Yard Freestyle.
'Look around before I swim, take it in, but as soon as I'm getting up on the block, it's time to focus,' said Canfield sophomore Ryan Weibling. 'I've got to block out all the noise, kind of block out everything else.'
The Cardinals start competition on Thursday night at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
