Sacha Jenkins, a writer, director, producer and co-founder of the beloved Hip-Hop magazine ego trip , has passed away.
For Generation X and Millennial-aged Hip-Hop fans—and particularly Hip-Hop journalists—Jenkins was a titan. Born in Philadelphia, but raised in Queens, he was a co-founder of ego trip magazine along with fellow rap journalist Elliott Wilson in 1994. Although it only published 13 issues in four years, it spawned an influential brand that would feature books, ego trip's Book of Rap Lists, and even a TV show, ego trip's The White Rapper Show, on VH1.
As a journalist, his byline hit all the magazines of importance ( XXL , The Source , Rolling Stone , Spin , et. al), interviewing a who's who of subjects (he co-wrote Eminem's biography, The Way I Am (2009)). Jenkins would go on to hold down a plethora of gigs that included Music Editor of Vibe magazine and creative director of Mass Appeal . A former graffiti writer, he launched the Piecebook series of titles that highlight graf from worldwide.
If you've watched many Hip-Hop documentaries, you inevitably would see his name pop up in the credits. He directed the doc series Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men , (2019) which ran on Showtime (as did his Biz Markie doc All Up in the Biz ), as well as Louis Armstrong's Black & Blues (2022) and Fresh Dressed (2015). And that's only a small sampling of an indelible, culturally important body of work that Jenkins managed to leave behind before his untimely death.
Jenkins is survived by his wife, Raquel Cepeda, and their two children. A cause of death has not been shared at this time and the family asks for privacy.
As soon as word of Jenkins' passing became public, many Hip-Hop figures (including some iconic graf artists) took to social media to pay homage to the legend. We've compiled some below.
Hip-Hop Wired sends its deepest condolences to Sascha Jenkins' family and friends. Rest powerfully in peace.
This story is developing.

About That ‘Sinners' Sequel, Ryan Coogler Said He 'Never' Planned On It, X Is Fine With That
Source: Mike Marsland / Getty / Ryan Coogler Sinners took a tremendous bite out of the box office, but don't expect the story of Stack and Mary to continue unless something significant happens to get Ryan Coogler back in the director's chair. Speaking with Ebony , Ryan Coogler revealed that he never planned on making a sequel to his period vampire flick, throwing a splash of cold holy water on any speculation that Sinners would become a franchise, like his other projects, Creed and Black Panther . Even though Coogler secured a historic deal by securing the rights to Sinners, meaning the rights of the film will revert to him after 25 years. The director told the publication he 'never' gave any thought to making a sequel to Sinners . 'I've been in a space of making franchise films for a bit, so I wanted to get away from that,' Coogler said. 'I was looking forward to working on a film that felt original and personal to me, and had an appetite for delivering something to audiences that was original and unique.' When watching his film, Coogler explained that he wanted to give audiences a 'full meal.' He continued, 'I wanted it to be a holistic and finished thing. That was how I was asked all about it. That was always my intention.' Coogler's statement comes after false reports of a Sinners sequel in development flooded both Instagram and X, formerly Twitter, timelines. However, now that we know a sequel is unlikely, it seems most moviegoers are fine with the idea that Stack and Mary's story ended with that post-credits scene. We are not opposed to the idea of a Sinners sequel, but we want it to happen on Ryan Coogler's terms, not the studio's. Hit the gallery below for more reactions. Saints Play of the Day: Malcolm Jenkins saved the game after a 95-yard catch
Saints Play of the Day: Malcolm Jenkins saved the game after a 95-yard catch Jenkins saved a TD, set up a goal-line stand after a 95-yard catch There are 95 days to go until the New Orleans Saints kick off their 2025 regular season, which makes this day-saving tackle by Malcolm Jenkins on a 95-yard catch by Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson our pick for the Saints Play of the Day, which you can see here. Trailing the Saints by a touchdown, 28-21, the Buccaneers offense took over at their own 5-yard line midway through the third quarter. Quarterback Josh Freeman took the snap and dropped back to throw from inside his own end zone -- finding Jackson had beaten Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson off the line. Strong safety Roman Harper broke on the pass too late, and Jackson corralled the catch with both defenders looking up at him from the turf. His mistake was thinking he was safe. Jackson began to pull up after crossing midfield into New Orleans territory, which gave Jenkins enough time to catch up to him. The free safety tackled Jackson a few yards short of the goal line, setting up the Saints defense for a stand with their backs against the wall. LeGarrette Blount tried to break through on three consecutive carries, but New Orleans denied him, and on fourth down they dropped Freeman for a big loss and turnover on downs. The Saints ended up winning in what had been a miserable start to their 2012 season, and it was largely thanks to Jenkins coming through in this clutch moment.
