No regional stability without Palestinian state: Egypt FM to The Elders - Foreign Affairs
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, the group's delegation included former Irish president Mary Robinson and former New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark.
The meeting addressed the deteriorating situation and the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip as a result of the nearly two-year brutal Israeli aggression on the Strip.
The attendees also drew attention to Israel's use of starvation as a weapon, where the Egyptian FM referred to the ongoing war of extermination against the Palestinian people.
He also pointed to Israel's attempts to entrench its illegal occupation of Palestinian territories and undermine the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, in flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
During the meeting, the Egyptian FM stressed Cairo's full rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their land and the liquidation of the Palestinian cause.
Additionally, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, affirming Egypt's intention to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip once an agreement is reached.
He further stressed the importance of advancing recognition of the Palestinian state and implementing the two-state solution to meet the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of their independent state.
On Friday, Israel's political-security cabinet approved a plan to take control of Gaza City, a move expanding military operations despite growing pressure over its deadly war on Gaza.
Israel's decision has sparked widespread global condemnation, with numerous countries and global organisations warning that such a move violates international law, undermines peace prospects, and exacerbates the already dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry strongly condemned the Israeli cabinet's decision, stressing that Israel's lawless and arrogant policies seek to impose a fait accompli by force and eliminate the viability of the two-state solution.

Egyptian, Jordanian ministers talk cooperation at 33rd Joint Higher Committee session
Egypt's planning minister and her Jordanian counterpart have discussed joint efforts to achieve economic development and enhance growth and employment policies during the 33rd session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee in Amman. Al-Mashat highlighted the pivotal role of the Joint Higher Committee, the oldest of all Arab bilateral higher committees, in supporting and strengthening joint economic, trade, investment, and cultural relations. She welcomed the cooperation and exchange of expertise in development planning and sustainable development, noting that a Memorandum of Understanding signed in August 2023 covers areas such as strategic planning, governance, and competitiveness. The two ministers also discussed the possibility of exchanging expertise on their efforts to implement the recommendations of the 'Public Governance Review,' which was launched by both countries in cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Additionally, they discussed joint coordination in international forums to advance global efforts to implement the outcomes of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, especially regarding reforms of the global financial architecture and the United Nations system.

Egypt's electricity minister, Copelouzos Group discuss progress on Egypt–Greece power interconnection
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Essmat met with Dimitris Copelouzos, Chairperson of Greece's Copelouzos Group, and his accompanying delegation to review the latest progress on the Egypt–Europe electricity interconnection project via Greece. The meeting, held at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, also explored opportunities for expanded cooperation in new and renewable energy. The project is part of Egypt's national strategy to transform the country into a regional hub for energy exchange, diversify energy sources, maximise returns from natural resources, and strengthen the resilience and stability of the national power grid through interconnection with neighbouring countries. The discussions covered developments in the direct electricity link with Greece, the potential for exporting renewable energy to Europe, and the establishment of large-scale solar and wind power projects in line with Egypt's renewable energy expansion plans. Topics included potential project sites, proposed transmission line routes, results of meetings between the Egyptian and Greek grid operators and the project developer, tendering procedures, European offers, and measures to reinforce the unified grids in both countries to handle additional capacities for transmission to the European network. Essmat described electricity interconnection projects as 'bridges of friendship' that promote sustainable development partnerships. He stressed that linking to Europe through Greece would strengthen Egypt's position as a regional energy hub and boost the economic value of its renewable energy resources. The minister highlighted the Egypt–Greece project as a strategic component of a broader plan to connect with neighbouring countries and ultimately integrate with the European grid. He underscored the importance of interconnection projects—especially the Greek link—in line with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's vision and the government's policy to consolidate Egypt's role as an energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. Essmat emphasised that the ministry is following a clear plan to maximise returns from renewable energy and ensure its optimal management and utilisation. The minister noted that electricity interconnection and energy exchange help achieve a balanced energy mix, particularly for renewables, while delivering economic benefits for all participating countries and stakeholders. He stressed that Egypt remains committed to renewable energy as a cornerstone of its electricity mix, diversifying generation sources, leveraging natural resources, and fostering mutually beneficial international partnerships.

Egypt's Gas Import Deal with Israel: "Agreement Dates Back to 2019"
Taarek Refaat Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly addressed public debate surrounding the extension of Egypt's natural gas import agreement with Israeli energy company NewMed, asserting that the deal was originally signed in 2019, well before the recent escalation in regional tensions. Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, Madbouly responded to concerns that the agreement may conflict with Egypt's political positions, particularly regarding the situation in Palestine. 'There's been talk suggesting that this agreement could affect Egypt's political stances,' Madbouly said. 'But I want to clarify: this agreement was signed in 2019. The developments in Palestine have been ongoing for the past two years. Egypt's position has always been, and remains, consistent and unwavering.' Madbouly emphasized that Egypt's foreign policy is rooted in principle, and that economic agreements do not dictate or influence the country's political stance. He added that Egypt's balanced approach in international diplomacy has played a critical role in regional stability. 'If not for Egypt's firm and steady positions, one can only imagine how much worse the situation could be,' he stated. Egypt has officially amended its natural gas import agreement with NewMed Energy, significantly expanding both the volume and duration of gas imports from Israel's Leviathan field, in a deal expected to generate $35 billion in revenues, according to a statement from NewMed. The revised deal increases the total contracted volume by 130 billion cubic meters (bcm) and extends the supply period through to 2040, reinforcing Egypt's role as a regional energy hub and meeting its growing domestic demand for natural gas. According to the NewMed Energy disclosure to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, the gas supply boost will be implemented in two phases: Phase one, which takes effect immediately, increases the current supply from 450 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) to 650 mmcfd, translating to an additional 20 bcm. Phase two involves an additional 110 bcm, contingent on future investments to expand production at the Leviathan gas field, as well as the signing of a new transportation agreement to deliver gas via the Nitzana pipeline. This would raise daily deliveries to between 1.15 and 1.25 billion cubic feet. Strategic Partnership and Field Ownership The Leviathan gas field is operated by a consortium that includes: NewMed Energy – 45.34%, Chevron (U.S.) – 39.66%, Ratio Energies – 15%.
