10 Dead, Over 20 Injured in Stampede During RCB Victory Celebrations in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: At least 10 people lost their lives and more than 20 sustained injuries during a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Tuesday, where thousands had gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) first-ever IPL championship victory.
Among the deceased were six men and four women, police sources confirmed.
The crowd had begun to swell from early morning as fans anticipated the arrival of the RCB team with the IPL trophy. The gathering quickly turned chaotic, as road closures and the influx of fans by road, metro, and foot created massive congestion in the city's central business district.
According to eyewitnesses, the stampede occurred near the stadium gates, where fans had amassed in hopes of glimpsing their cricketing heroes. The stadium's surrounding roads had been cordoned off, and traffic police struggled to manage the growing crowds.
Before reaching the stadium, the RCB team had been felicitated at the Vidhana Soudha by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. However, before the team's arrival at the stadium, the celebration turned tragic due to overcrowding and lack of proper crowd management.
Those injured were rushed to Bowring Hospital in Shivajinagar, where several are reported to be in critical condition. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are expected to review the safety protocols and planning of the event.

The state govt, particularly the CM and DCM, orchestrated a scenario that led to this tragic stampede," Surya said. He urged the RCB franchise to show solidarity with its fanbase. "Even though there is no legal obligation, morally and humanely, the franchise should come forward to support and compensate the victims' families," Surya said.

It was a crowd unlike what we usually see during IPL matches — much more aggressive and unruly." Bhaskar, drawing on his army training and two years' experience of handling RCB match security, read the situation fast enough to realise it was spiralling out of control. "Several stands were operating at over 120% capacity. Those spectators who stood up were blocking the views of those behind, which led to pushing and jostling," he said. "I feared people could fall off the upper stands straight to the ground." KSCA officials quit hours after HC shield from arrest
Karnataka State Cricket Association's (KSCA) secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam have resigned from their posts, owing moral responsibility for the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday, hours after the Karnataka High Court granted them protection from police arrests. In a letter to KSCA president Raghuram Bhat, they said they wished to own moral responsibility though their role was very limited. The stampede and congestion near the stadium led to the death of 11 cricket fans and injuries to scores of others. The resignations followed the state government launching a crackdown on the agencies involved in organising the felicitation events at the Chinnaswamy stadium after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title for the first time. On Thursday, chief minister Siddaramaiah ordered the arrest of senior executives of RCB, KSCA and event manager DNA Entertainment Network. Shankar and Jairam, along with Bhat, moved the High Court on Friday after the police charged the three organisations with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In their petition, the KSCA office bearers said the association was only a governing body of cricket in Karnataka with affiliation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It has nothing to do with IPL events and Wednesday's celebrations were organized by RCB franchise and managed by its vendor DNA Entertainment Network, they argued. KSCA's role was limited to making the stadium and its infrastructure available to RCB and DNA. The police, the petitioners alleged, registered the FIR against them under intense pressure and compelling circumstances without any preliminary enquiry.
